I really needed to hear this. My family has been semi negative with my choice in joining and it’s been making me feel low about it. But you really helped me right now.
In basic training, it’s 1.5 mile or a 24 minute run at your own pace. All tech schools are different, mine specifically required us to run 5ks once a week, but they could all differ
I was an Aerospace Medical Technician from 1965-1969. The Aerospace Medical Technician tech. school was at Brooks AFB, TX, after a Medical Helper course at Gunter AFB, AL. The Aerospace Medical Tech. job, at that time, was assigned to the flight surgeons' office. We took care of pilots and missile officers sick call and annual physical examinations. This was at the start of the, Vietnam war, so the job could have also entailed field med. evac. and also medical flights from Vietnam to the Philippines or state side. I never did that kind of duty, since is was stationed at Vandenberg AFB, CA for the rest of my enlistment. Also, I separated as a 3 stripe sergeant. In '67 or '68, the USAF brass thought that E-4 in the AF should be aligned with the Army. That didn't last long after I separated, because the "lifer" NCOs put up a real fuss. The NCO clubs became too overcrowded with "buck" sergeants. I loved my time in the AF. I left in 1969, because I wanted no part of Vietnam and people in my med. group had started being assigned there.
Ive been training for BMT for the past 2 months and lost 35lbs in that amount of time. I still have a little way to go to reach my weight requirement but now its pretty easy sailing. In the beginning, my legs and joints hurted a lot because i did not exercise at all and i was heavy but after about a few weeks or a month I did not hurt hardly at all because i got used to it. Nowadays I run/powerwalk 6.5 miles everyday
I'm 28, and after having babies and not working out for a few years...... I am STRUGGLING. My husband is army and he's giving me pointers and helps me with sit ups and push ups - form and all. Although Air Force and Army have different forms and how you have to complete the sit up. He told me to do 100 push ups and sit ups a day - throughout the day or all at once, whatever I wanna do. I can barely do 5 sit ups in a row right now. But when I started, I couldn't even do 1. He also told me to do other core work to help my core strength so like planks, crunches, etc. I'm hopefully going Air Force if I get my waivers approved. I also found that you really need hard self-discipline to get going in the gym and then once you start feeling good/better from working out, it will be so easy to just get to the gym or to do a home workout. Practice makes progress!

The pay is not accurate. If your contract states you will be paid as E3 during BMT, you WILL get paid as an E3 you simply won’t wear the stripes. I was paid E3 pay during BMT and tech, so was everyone one else I met during my wait in DEP. We were all paid E3 pay AT BMT, not after. It truly just depends on what your contract states.
Heading to BMT in two weeks and your videos are truly motivating and inspiring! I’ve been dreading PT esp bc my running time isn’t near the minimum. Hoping I get better before I leave. Thank you for all the advice and for taking your time to share your journey with us.
I cant find any info about travis AFB the people i know have been there 8 years+ and told me things probably changed. Info on travis is soo rare. However whatever you described kinda matches our travis FAQ sheet 🤣
for the 5K runs do you have to run the entire time or can you walk/jog and run? also if you do have to run the whole time can you do it at your own pace or is it in a group at a set pace? love your videos!!!
Thank you! They’re self paced; you can walk a little if needed, but if an MTL passes you they’ll yell at you to run😂 also the more you walk, the more it hurts better back. It’ll get easier each time tho

You don’t want to leave sore, but maybe take this time to stretch your body and prepare. I’m sure you’ll do fine tho, the adrenaline will push you when you get there. Best of luck!!
I love your videos! aerospace medical service is the job I want, after tech school and getting finally getting stationed and working do you always wear scrubs ? Or are there days where you wear your ocps?
i thought if you chose national guard you get to choose which base you want to work at & are guaranteed that before you go to bmt? (if the job is available obviously) that’s what i was told. i was wondering if this is true. great video!

Shipping out on June 25th, 2024 and this is my job. It was my 8th choice😭 almost turned it down but everyone I talked to both in/out of the AF says I'd be stupid to do so. Everyone keeps telling me it's a GREAT job so hey I'm going with the floor🫶🏾
I want this job but I want to work as a Neurodiagnostic technologist, so under the Aerospace medical service 4N0X1 there is this thing called shreadouts with multiple jobs like Neurodiagnostic medical tech, Independence Duty Medical Tech, Allergy/Immunization tech, Flight and Operational medical tech, Aeromedical Evacuation tech, etc. Does that mean I can pick one of those jobs as my main focus under the aerospace medical service?
Yes, eventually! You do have to start off at your first assigned unit, finish CDCs, and then talk to your leadership about shredding out. Definitely something you can do, but it won’t be an immediate thing, so just mentally prepare for that

My plan was to go to Air Force as a reserve so I can go to school for a Neurodiagnostic technologist in a civilian world, but if the airforce already has the program I might as well do that, as long the airforce job Neurodiagnostic technologist can transfer into civilian world. Or I can pick a different job non medical I like in Air Force as reserve, then go to college in civilian world. What would you say for someone like me who is going through something like this?
Lots of people join and English is their second language! It could be challenging of course, but that’s the environment in general. I think you’d do just fine tho
