I'm a Trainee Clinical Psychologist studying at Oxford University. I previously did psychology degrees at Cambridge (Undergrad) and UCL (Master's). I upload videos every few weeks about studying, psychology, university life and occasionally self-improvement. If those are your thing, do subscribe!

Love this - should have uploaded it at the time! Glad to see the channel active after seeing you film that b-roll shot for the update vid in the RadCam. Keep it up man 👍🏼
@@FrancisMadden I appreciate it! If I could emulate even an ounce of your spirit, I know I'll go off to bringing more positivity to the field. Keep up the good work! I wish you all the best
From your previous video I'm guessing this is the video that you didn't want to release and although the content is from the past, it's still lovely to see your process of what it takes to be a clinical psychologist. Great video as always 👍
A throwback to my assistant psychologist MSc placement from two years ago! I'm now doing the clinical psychology doctorate (DClinPsy) at Oxford, here is how I am finding it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zIQAvQ0-z0M.html
As a fellow Manc thanks for all these brilliant videos ! The panic calendar and Noisli have been super helpful and helped me with assignments ultimately securing a post grad place at Cambridge starting Oct 24.. ps your video on Cambridge ‘get her off the grass’ was hilarious ..Good luck in Doctoral studies
Hi Francis, so you said you were going for your doctorate in this video, did you complete your masters in full as well? Also including your bachelors as well ofc
UCL / KCL / LSE / Imperial / QMUL are universities which are best suited to postgrads who also have busy careers. If you have a career, especially in law, engineering, science, banking or commerce (especially in the City of London), you need you post-grad research to be supervised by someone who currently has or has had a successful career in industry themselves, not some academic who's life moves at a glacial pace and spends inordinate amounts of time drinking tea, publishing papers no one will ever read and is totally devoid of any practical, marketable skills. In short, the top London Universities are great for working adults rather than kids just trying to bluster their way through undergrad exams. Whenever I've approached a potential supervisor, I've always gravitated to people who have had successful careers outside of academia.
Heya! Love your channel & would honestly watch any video you upload. I think you have a way with words & video presentation that makes it somehow soothing, yet also informative to watch!
Great video Francis! There will always be an audience for DClin related videos, it must be hard enough keeping on top of the course without making videos so it's absolutely okay to let RU-vid be a lower priority. I think it would be really interesting if you could do a mini series talking with trainees from different universities about the ethos of their course and how each university differs with the DClin - I appreciate that might get a bit repetitive if you spoke with people from every course but I think it would be cool to see a few examples of how the courses differ?
This is incredibly helpful, thank you. The roleplay element you described sounds incredibly tough. In session it can often be the last 20 minutes you finally touch on an actual issue… mad they expect skills in 10 minutes… The guest on a podcast is a good idea, the idea of role playing a personality reducing threat perception. Same idea with TV/Movie characters! For a while I was embodying House when I had a limp 😂. I think it’s natural for those high in empathy to replicate like this, sometimes with accents too.
Best not to overdo things. You are obviously very driven and working hard. I was wanting to ask advice: a person I know is finding it hard to get NHS treatment for their psychological problems. I have suggested they go private, as they can afford it. How should we assess the right person to consult? Perform quality control as it were?
Thank you Keith - I think that's the problem with private therapy atm, it largely relies on word of mouth or taking a punt based on someone's website or a database. In the UK actual clinical psychologists are accredited by HCPC, and psychotherapists/counsellors by UKCP or BACP. They have databases of people but you're going off limited information
Hi Francis, I am a psych nurse turned medical writer, and it has long been my dream to do a DPhil at Oxford. I absolutely love your content, and think it's so important to hear about the fields of psychology and psychiatry. Please don't try to be perfect. Just rest assured that no matter how often you post, people out here love your content. It's so different to the usual study tube due to its applied nature so please keep posting and focus on the parts you enjoy! X Emma
Francis, I was just about to watch your 1st class essay video to help me do my assignment and wondering where you'd been. Don't put pressure yourself to upload, your busy and that's fine. Do you have any advice for doing things last minute? Other than not to leave it to the last minute 😅
Thanks so much! Hahah if only it was easy to not do everything last minute. I was acc gonna make a video like 'what I'd do if I had an exam/essay due tomorrow ' haha - not entirely sure what to put in it yet though. Maybe my first thought is ask for an extension😅
