For me, Nothing beats cooking food, outdoors over an open fire, surrounded by friends and family. Pizza has always been at the heart of my culinary favourites as it’s so versatile and great to share. During the lockdown of 2020, I bought my first pizza oven, and wanted to film my experiences honing the craft of pizza making to help and inspire others, So I grabbed my dough balls and camera, and set to work. Four years later, I’m fortunate enough to be able to make pizza every weekend, filming my journey and turning my love of pizza making into a dedicated You Tube channel If you share my love of pizza making, hit subscribe! You won’t regret it!
Is it right the ooni 16 takes about 10 mins for the stone to get back up to temp between pizzas. Not great for doing larger parties do you think? Cheers
Your first 2/3 pizzas will be fine with little heat up time. after that it takes about 5 minutes to get some heat back into the stone to cook again. If you're doing parties regularly, it may be worth investing in two ovens
Thanks so much! Glad you like them, i would check out the Ninja Woodfire, it's a good all rounder for baking bread and pizza, but doesn't get as hot as ooni ovens. If you can stretch to it, i would go for the Karu 16, with gas option as its big enough for both pizza and bread, but with gas gives you a bit more flexibility to regulate the temperature.
Side note, no pizza is in an oven long. 90 seconds max… i agree the smoke gives pizza a better taste. The engineering in these pizza ovens the ninja creamie for ice cream are absolutely amazing! Things just keep getting better and too expensive to eat out. So glad we have competition so these price stay competitive and affordable for everyone.
Thanks for watching! I keep all my ovens either under cover or in a garage when not in use to keep them looking nice for videos! i also clean them regularly too
Thanks! i like to take good care of the ovens, i keep them in the garage in a cover always when not in use. I also brush it out after each use, and will often leave it running whilst setting up videos, which gives the stone a good burn and helps to keep it clean
I used this dough recipe to make my first from scratch pizza in my new G3 Ferrari and it went down a treat, thanks! Where can I buy the containers that you used please? Does the type of clear container you used to prove the dough have a name? Thanks.
Just picked up this oven, many thanks for a very informative video. Can you use any type of wood, or is there anything in particular that you would recommend?
Pineapple on pizza is not my favourite but its completely ok. So many people are complaining about it its ridiculous. Other guys put fries and pasta on their pizza. Thats a hundred times worse in my opinion
Great videos, Tom; informative and very helpful, thank you. My question is, is the switch over from gas burner, to wood/charcoal, time consuming/difficult enough to say that most of us would end up choosing one fuel source only to cook with?
The cost of the gas is almost exactly the same or a bit cheaper than electric, this is due to the gas version using more watts of power, 4kw vs 1.6kw for the electric version. So it should be on for less time to get the same heat, Quite suprising. It does make sense though as the electric is probably generated by gas in the 1st place but then its got all the costs associated with converting it to electric and getting it to your house.
A nice added feature would be if this stove could be installed in a nearby building, and then if by just picking up my phone, I could call someone making minimum wage, and have them cook the pizza FOR me and then have someone else deliver it to me in a car.
Hi Tom. This was an excellent and very helpful video, thank you. I was wondering if you could provide a source for the cart the oven is sitting on? Carts etc are often an afterthought, but important that they are both weatherproof, heatproof, mobile with a place to hang things and store the peel etc. Thanks, even if you cannot provide the source of your cart!
I bought this gas unit and made the mistake of relying on the images of the burner only, I didn't read down to ,"what's in the box" which would have told me the regulator and hose are included. I spent a further $25 on regulator and hose needlessly. Never mind it's good to have a spare on hand I guess. Also the hose is a little crimped from storage but with some hot water I can get it into the proper shape. The gas pressure is a little inconsistent and the flame goes out sometimes, I'm guessing because of the crimped hose. I'm sure this will correct itself. Otherwise it's great.
Glad you did this one! We must have had beginners look cause our first pizza night went fantastic. Second time the very first launch went wrong and from there it was downhill 😂
I think that the black carbon areas are permanent and it just improves the stone to cook better next time around. There's no reason to bring it back to its original grey or white appearance.
Hi Tom, Been working my way through your videos which have been very helpful Thankyou. I’m gonna order a Karu 12G. Just wanted to ask how accurate the temperature dial is on the item, is it still worth getting an infrared reader or will the dial do the job alone. Great videos, Looking forward to making some pizza 🍕
I will admit I had a Koda 12 for 5 years and never thought of poking finger through the bottom to release the stone 😂 every day is a school day so thanks for that tip 👏
Nice review although agree that it would have been good to see temps between cooks. Ive owned a Koda 12 for 5 yrs and it hasnt missed a beat and it was very portable as kept in my garage when not in use. I just won an Arc XL bundle in a online comp and it looks big especially with the full size stand so will have to stay outside. Excited to see how it compares to the Ooni.
