Thank you for the video. Glass food storage is my favorite way to go. I recently moved and had a mouse problem! NEVER in my 75 years have had a rodent problem before. They got into all manner of storage containers except the glass. Whenever possible, glass is my absolute preferred method of storage or literally everything. Vac Seal bags stored in heavy mouse-proof buckets works too, but glass is frequently easier.
I found gallon and 1/2 gallon jars at the Amish store but you do have too buy the lids separately, and you can find odd sized replacement lids too and sleeves of regular seals yes even pickle jar lids too. I was blessed with my mothers and mother in laws gallon jars and found more at a rummage sale years ago and even have old blue jars from 1/2 gallon too pints, and the glass jar lided clamp tops for my grain storages. Plus I reuse all sauce jars for pickles, relish, jellies, and jams. They've lasted me for over 10 years.
If I am storing dry goods in the glass jars for short periods of time (say only for a few months at a time), can I use the plastic lids instead of the metal lids?
Thank you! I currently use jars for white rice for my dogs and it makes it so much more manageable. I'm definitely inspired to use more jars and get things out of plastic.
My husband recently broke a half gallon jar of mine because I was cleaning it outside on the concrete. He kicked it and it shattered. First time I had a jar shatter like that
I love storing in glass jars. I've typically used the white plastic from Walmart or the grey plastic lids from Ball because the metal lids end up being too tight for me to unscrew 😅 but the plastic lids can get so expensive!!! I'll try the metal lids again soon and compare difference between how long items last
thank you for sharing. i can barely wrap my head around wheat being the same price in 2024 as it was in the 1970's. that's tragically shameful. famers are definitely in my thoughts and prayers. continued blessings.🕊
I'd say let use fruits to save another fruit -- instead of using vinegar we can just use good old lime juices to preserve grapes. They're acidic and antibacterial too 😇
Thanks for this! I bought the books on Kindle, not realizing at the time that I wouldn't be able to print them. It made me a little sad because I don't prefer to have my Kindle in the middle of food processing but the books are a wonderful resource!
I was just wondering I buy organic lemons so they don’t have any preservative sprayed on them Does that mean they’ll still stay fresh for a whole month both the avocado and lemons
Thank you! I’d forgotten your hack after seeing your quick video a few weeks ago. I finally found your wonderful video after looking everywhere online. For further clarification, would it still work storing both the avocado & lemon in a ziplock bag instead of the inside the veggie bin? I’ve learned how to ripen avocados by storing them-not only in a paper bag in a dark place -but also adding bananas or apples to the bag. This cuts the bag-time down from a week down to a few days, depending on how hard the avocados were to begin with. So glad you shared your tip on preserving avocados. I’m going to definitely store an opened avocado in a jar ! Saves baggies too. Thank you again 🥳
I think i needed the ending. I'm helpless! Do you keep it refrigerated? Can i put the whole bunch of parswly in one jar? And just a bit of water, or fill it up? Thank you! ❤
