Welcome to WAYPN! Short for What are you painting now?! WAYPN is about the miniature wargaming hobby broadly, we do knowledge 'classes' like colour harmony, making colours read better and such. However, we talk about a broad range of topics like Warhammer and their customers' relationship with it, what do parents think about the hobby, and many others. We focus on giving information concisely whatever the topic is. We always end in the same way because it's something we believe in, you should...
I remember back in the day this was exactly true and I still have a vivid memory of these 2 kids in a GW asking a rep if a box of Space Marines (a tactical squad box) was a fair fight against a box of Orks. 10 and 16 and the rep was enthusiastically like OHH YESS. And the 2 kids were like aaww fuck yeah and went off happy. I suspect one was soon to be disappointed though.
I used dark purple, orange, and red for my Genestealer cult units. Purple for mystery and royalty (for the more alien models) Orange for passionate fanaticism of the human hybrids And spot red for danger, passion, and power for my explosives and Purestrain Genestealers. Loving the channel! Keep those brushes wet!!
Games workshop is going to drill themselves right into the ground with thier pricing. Already most of the people who played 40k within like 45 minutes drive of me have quit....I'm not buying any of their stuff anymore...if they wanna burn thier baby to the ground I'll just watch.
I am going with a red and blue color scheme on my Knights because I think it looks cool (play my first ones were painted when I got them and I don’t wanna repaint them because I like them so I’m painting the rest to match)
It’s worth noting as well a possible huge reason you don’t see as much cultural stuff, at least post heresy in conjunction with the extinction and revival of the legion, is that The Fists don’t have a centralized people or planet that they exclusively recruit from. Imperial fists have over a dozen tithing worlds they recruit from that could contain anything from brutal tribesmen to the children of gangers and nobles.
18:25 I love in Jaghatai’s book, it comments that the first decade the white scars were on the scene they spent like a decade avoiding their brothers to see who would be the first to catch them.
My army scheme has in it predominantly green silver and orange with some black and white thrown in. Seems I'm going for something very energetic and unnatural
Could you please consider doing a video series of armies and factions? I’m a dnd’er and watch for painting. You use WH to demonstrate the color psych concepts, and that’s cool. But I’m WH curious and have no context for what you discuss. So: perhaps a series to acquaint people with diff armies and factions? I know there’s detailed stuff out there, but your balance of breadth and depth is perfect. (I know you have the lore v design series, but again, much is assumed about what the viewer knows.) I’d rather watch you summarize than go elsewhere…that said, I understand you are creating a brand and my request may be inconsistent with that. Thank you and keep up the great work!
So obviously this topic is popular and it seems to be what people want to see from us. But we have always strived to be sustainable, as you can see the colour psychology topic is almost done with number 2. However we have considered what you're scheme says about you. I think that could be something along what you are looking for. I would really like to hear your idea refind because it sounds like what people are looking for but I can't quite picture it - Cal
@@WhatareyouPaintingnowHere is the idea refined: “An Introduction to Armies and Factions for Beginners”. As a dnd’er who paints, my interest in WH has grown, which must be common. A series that covers armies and factions - in the WAYPN style - would be helpful and interesting to me. Past content could be referenced (what your army says about you, building terrain, color psychology, color theory, bringing your significant other into the hobby, etc.) and linked to, driving more traffic to them. Noobs/dnd’ers/gamers could learn the basics to choose an army based on more than just aesthetics, which is a common piece of advice…choosing it by lore would be great. Most lore videos assume viewers are familiar with the WH-verse. That makes these videos inaccessible to me. The ones that try to do this have videos that are 90 minutes long. The WAYPN style would rock this type of video series. A video about the universe (I only know super basics thanks to ChatGPT), a video about aeldari, orcs, marines, tau, and all the rest would be informative and interesting. The way most videos are done, I need to already be familiar with 40k or AoS to understand what I’m watching. Apologies if this is not 100% clear or too lengthy, but I’m trying to put in print something that could be discussed in a three minute pitch. Anyway, happy to continue the conversation or answer questions. Thanks again for your work!
My custom grey knights that I call the war foxes their colors are gunmetal black orange trim and white on the shoulders with hints of ice blue or purple or dark blue depending on what squad they are like the eyes for example of normal strike squad are blue whereas the eyes for the interceptor squad are red and the eyes for the purifier squad are purple
Well basically they have the same colour scheme as the ultramarines but the secret... You just make them dark we have talked about it before but honestly that is it it brings out the darker traits of each colour - Cal
I chose a mix of about 80% dark grey, 10% dark green, 5% metallic brass and bright orange eyes for my space marines. They’re urban defenders, mimicking the stone statues on tall buildings. Green being the more secondary color for weapons etc but also a indicator for rank (moss buildup->higher rank->more experience-> more moss/green). The brass is a purely ornamental color. Every marine has brass trim and on their left kneepad, but it really comes out with those warriors who hold a lot of medals and are of higher rank, especially lieutenants and captains. Basically they’re pragmatic enough to attempt stealth, but too proud of their imperial heritage to not sport at least a little bling
Correct unless people count the minotaurs as brown as "technically" they are but they are a brass or copper which is a texture technical but they have their own traits - Cal
My Ynnari army have a purple and red scheme (my harlequins are seperated as they are purely a Persona 5 reference). My basic craftworlders are usually lavender, red and white, my Drukhari are midnight purple and red. They are all passionate, but the drukhari are more selfish and live in their twisted sense of luxury and mystic, the craftworlders are more tranquil and somewhat feminine with elegance and grace. The outliers are my Death Jester being based off of the sad red polish jester painting and Striking Scorpions being a dark maroon color forceful in their passion.
I painted my CSM piss yellow and red to give them a more... less serious, almost goofy appearence. I never thought yellow could be associated with being energetic tho.
I do believe Tzeench's colour is blue but it usually presented closer to an aqua/teal which represents primordial biblical chaos because of the sea. If you want to learn more about it here is our in-depth version ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oYHhGFKP-dQ.html Hope that helps - Cal
That would have to be Number 3 which would be tertiary colours and metallics, there is a vote currently going on if you want to participate in the community tab - Cal
After a second viewing it almost seems like yellow and orange have a fair amount of overlap maybe due to cultural associations with construction/hazard/warning applications. It seems like they could both be energetic and dominating just from the way that they're used to call attention to themselves. Is there anything to that or am I just looking at it through too narrow a lens? Anyway, thanks for this series! It really has changed the way I see art and advertising in general. Like maybe blue and white wasn't the best choice for our wedding 🤔 but at least we didn't opt for a sickly green 😄 Oh and WWF will AaaAAaAlllLlLwAAaAaYyyss stand for the WORLD... WIIIDE..Wrestling .....federation! (makes half crazed angry grimaces)
You're 100% right yellow and orange do have a lot of overlap now and because of the same reason construction/industry/hazard warning. You're spot on mate we talk about in the in-depth colour psychology one - Cal P.S. the link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oYHhGFKP-dQ.html
I've rethought my thoughts. While I still don't think it's fair to put Tau in orange, as I think they are pretty much Yellow, I have decided since I've always painted my Tau in the Teal color scheme. Maybe i just have different expectations. Honestly, Tau are hard.
My thousand sons are painted somewhat by the scheme from the lore, blues with some red mixed in. I did give my exalted sorcerers purple capes because I did know it was tied to royalty. My space marines are painted as Black Templars.
Spoiler Alert for the future Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus/Black Legion video: When the Primarch Jaghitai Khan met Horus of the then Luna Wolves Legion, he was inspired to have his legion wear the pure white the XVI th once wore.
I picked brown as main collor for my Krieg army because I thought they looned good with brown. A bit interesting that it works with showing their grounded aproach to warfare
