15:35 at this point my solution was black, I had to vaccum filter it 3 times using diatomaceous earth to get something clear - maybe I should have done this at an earlier step, unsure
As other have suggested, a paper thimble for the soxhlet would have worked much better. You don’t have to buy the expensive analytical thimbles made for soxhlets, you can fold a couple coffee filters into a cone and it works very well. Also, it helps to pre-wet very dry powders with solvent to prevent air pockets.
Shulgin also didn’t go to prison because he was DEA sanctioned. He held a DEA license and assisted them with processing samples, and he was friendly with a higher up for his region. It was after PiHKAL came out and there was a changing of guard with the DEA that led to them eventually raiding his home. Fortunately he was not breaking any laws at the time so they weren’t able to do much to him besides try to scare him.

Do you think something like a butane extraction could have helped, something less polar. I know when I was younger and did critical fluid exactions with polar and non polar solvents My polar solvent (IPA) final product would end up turning into something like that and when I would do a butane extraction I would age and get crystalline structures. I'm an idiot tho so you tell me.
I wish to take chemistry someday myself. My other grades are awful lol so i just am my own teacher rn. Congrats on your graduation. Did you do chemistry before you went to school for it?
