Just a channel that enjoys breaking things down to their barest point and analyzing what works and what doesn’t-particularly in storytelling. I believe that if we can assess what makes a story good or bad, we can better express how we feel about it and why. That is my goal.
Also just in case it’s not obvious, I mostly just talk about Star Wars. I do other stuff from time to time, but if you’re not a Star Wars fan, you’re likely not going to get much out of most of my videos; just a fair warning.
I get where you're coming from, and many of the points you make are true in fairness. With that said, I'm probably still going to rewatch swtcw like 10 more times hahaha. I just love it too much. Also, i could not agree more with your argument regarding the inhibiter chips. I think it makes considerably more sense than the contray arguments.
While i disagree with quite a few of your points (not all) ill give you a like for honest and consistent analysis. I cannot fault you for contradicting yourself
Watch Disney claim he actually was in the fight since he was 6 because his native planet had much longer revolution around its star. Come to think of it, it would be pretty weird if they used 365 sets of 24 hours to measure a year. Lets be real though, nobody at Disney has ever given time a thought or they would have changed that BBY ABY crap.
Back in the day, i caught a lot of heat for disliking clone wars... Ironically enough my stated reason was some of the outlandish crazy stories opened the door for retcons, fake outs, unexplained OP characters etc... well, look where we are now 🙄
You say the jawas scavenging the ship is a nitpick but no it literally isnt, jawas steal nearly anything they can so if they left that ship there they would return to an empty frame and a bunch of jawas carrying away the pieces to their sandcrawlers like a line of ants towards the nest
Also keep in mind they have on multiple occasions fully scrapped entite ships in minutes, like idk how the inquisitors still have a ship after 3 minutes
So the real problem behind all of this mess is... lousy writers. People who are younger than the original movie, and who turned it into garbage and like... an extension of how their own minds work, which isn't great. All of these are filled with basically garbage... It's because no one seems to really know how to do "anything" well anymore and actual talent, skill, and even imagination are things of the past... lost forever. This is most visible within the "entertainment" industry of today, and the last few decades. Everything is a redo (which gets ruined) Or a copy of something which was already done, which gets ruined, Or a spin off of something which was already done, which gets ruined... This is why I just don't watch anything anymore... (I was never a big tv/movie type of person anyway even as a kid) Most of society likes "familiar", sameness, don't stray... It's really, really sad.. The vast majority of people these days don't even read... As in have never even read a really well written book, novel etc.. When is the last time something truly, remarkably "different" has come out of the "entertainment" industry... Whether a TV show, a movie, or even music or even artwork???🤔
I disagree on the phant9m menace is a bad movie. Jar jar aside (I dont even mind him as a charachter), it's a very enjoyable story. It also sets up the return of sith and the rise of palpatine to power. Not to mention the worldbuilding and all the new aliens we get to see. The plot is coheseve, dynamic and overall left me at the top of my seat even though I've seen this movie a dozen times. Overall, it just proves the point that whenever I was watching any disney star wars series or film, I was just bored out of my mind, while I am enjoying the phantom menace. Even though it is the weaker of the original 6.
Jesus christ, I tried to see the second one, but the in the post sex scene between the main character and the guy-friend/love interest, idk why but that woman looks so uncomfortable, to me, on that scene I just couldn't make the effort to waste precious time of my life on that shit.
I know that bad batch has a lot of problems but I feel like it really has some heart to it. It’s got some alright characters, great animation, and is a fun and poetic last hurrah of the clone wars. Sure, the first season was boring, I agree. Yes, the second season had its flaws. Maybe it’s just my nostalgia, but as a diehard fan, the finale was really touching and a great payoff to a traditional episodic “rebels”-esque experience watching and growing to love the bad batch. I’m sure we could’ve used more episodes or a more streamlined plot, but I’m not convinced that the budget or deadlines of such a show was ever going to produce a higher quality project like Andor (not that that excuses it). The TV show may have been less than great, but there’s so much more passion in it than the likes of Kenobi or the Mandalorian season 3. Love your content Sheev, I hope to hear your criticisms of Tales of the Empire or The Acolyte if you’re up to watching some more disney garbage.
Out of all this the one thing I'm happy didn't happen is pademe getting brought into this show. Holy s that character was so awful in rebels I had to skip all the episodes she was in . Kept on hoping she'd died in one but never got my wish
03:04:00 Both shows suck but Kenobi is way worse than Ahsoka guys. The amount of stupidity in Kenobi is hard to top. Ahsoka is mostly boring; it's also stupid, but mostly boring. Kenobi is a broken show devoid of logic.
I would say the way Andor was imprisoned is not contrived at all. A crime was committed behind him and the criminals ran past him. The shoretrooper assumed he was part of the gang. The beauty of that scene is that it shows that in the wake of the Aldhani Heist, there is no more due process. Andor was imprisoned with NO EVIDENCE. Cherry on top, the ISB is actively hunting for Andor, meanwhile he's already in Imperial custody, showing just how bloated this corrupt system is
I wasn't aware there were so many people vehemently against the inhibitor chips. they always made sense to me, and I liked them way better than what we had before. Your take on this specific subject makes th eabsolute most sense
Yeah, it's nice to see someone actually talk about the power dynamics and why they don't work as canon, by having some random guy body the emperor and vader takes away from the achievement that luke and vader were able to achieve in return of the jedi as someone else was able to it before them. I fine with the story just being vehicle for a fun game, but Im glad it is not canon anymore.
7:36 Very good question...however, maybe Hunter is being a bit of a smartass and isn't really answering the question for a reason? The Bad Batch are Black Ops. And, they report to SOMEONE, but they aren't supposed to tell anyone who. They do the dirty jobs, and do them in an unorthodox way. They are essentially Military Mercenaries working for a shadowy arm of the Republic. I've never really thought the Republic was all good and right. It definitely had it's dark side. It would have made a good story to dedicate a few episodes to that. These guys doing dirty jobs for a supposedly heroic Republic. Or...it's just bad writing and a huge gaping plot hole. I also think because The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch being a kid's show had writers and producers NOT going into too many dark directions. Honestly think if it was more of an adult show that kids MIGHT watch, there could have been some REALLY good topics they could have tackled.
Everyone notices the Magnificent Seven, Seven Samurai and Bugs Life rip off...but few have mentioned Kora having her people killed then being adopted and turned into a strong female Mary Sue warrior.... Thanos and Gamora!!
The Clone Wars definitely had a problem with neutering the villains to a point to where the heroes hardly ever really struggle unless it's against Maul.
This is a waste of your time. None of this is star wars. Anything after return of the Jedi is not only not canon, it's less important than fan fiction. I don't see how anyone is considered a true fan as long as k.k. has a job. It's up to the fans to protect the franchise and everyone has failed miserably.
Now I may be mistaken, but that part about the "Grand Inquisitor" at 17:00 made me think of a possibility you might have overlooked. If the real Grand Inquisitor's survival was kept hidden from the officer, would he think the Grand Inquisitor she mentioned be Reva? If so, his being cowed into backing off kinda makes sense, since Reva is exactly the kind of person who would kill for minor issues, if the whole hand cutting thing from episode one is considered. I'm aware this is an old video, and there's a LOT wrong with this show, but that at the very least makes sense, so I thought I'd point it out.
Okay see heres the problem with the inbibitor chips and why they flop so hard: In TCW we get the chip malfunctioning which i mean how many times could that had happened? You can choo that up to plot convenience but for gods sakes your telling me they can fail and risk sidious plan being exposed by the jedi and clones asking questions? And then Dooku and others roast the caminoans over this and they end up killing the lady in charge of that to cover their tracks! Then they double down and make it worse. Having the clones do it by will can be a hard sell to some fans however its an even bigger harder sell when Rebels and the bad batch has the clones get turned into a slave soldier core who begin to question the orders given to them, then they're seen as expendable and obsolete by an empire that has a tremendous man power shortage, that's got a massive problem with its internal burecracy and officer core all stabbijg each other in the back and eliminating each other to such a degree that any competent officer thats actually capable of beating the rebels is gone! And they decide "hey were gonna shelve the clone program and retire all the war vets that had experience fighting in all these planets and were gonna put them all in the trash! Oh yeah by the way forget that we have a massive industrial military complex that needs bodies to put out and lead our men" and then those same inhibitor chips make them pull Order 66 but not stay loyal to the empire and rebel? That makes no sense? Why wouldnt palpatine who's this master manipulator be able to think that through? Or the caminoans? Or anyone writing this? This is the fundamental problem i have with the people currently leading star wars and really the whole upending of the EU canon for the sake of making a new totally inferior and actually fairly too unbelievable universe thats kind of lost all its grit amd nuance. There's fun in a tale of good and evil but even in a tale of politics and war like the prequel trilogy there had to be nuance and thats why i think a lot of fans hate the new canon, its lost what made it so interesting to simply explore the smaller scale stories in the SW universe.
Kind of awkward how Anakin got freed from slavery only to end up a novice in an institution where he constantly has to refer to his superiors as "master."
