Welcome to the official RU-vid Channel for Katrina Kay Creations where you will learn how to make plus size sewing patterns, sew and alter clothes to fit your curves.
This is amazing! I've been afraid of making pants even though I know how how make the pattern because I didn't know why things were donde the way they are, but with this explanation I understand it better. Thank you so much!!
You can use your PC for all software I mentioned in this video. PatternMaster Boutique software only has a PC version, no MAC version. Illustrator has a Mac & PC version.
There is a free of cost alternative to Illustrator. It is the open source software Inkscape, which I love and use to draw and grade my patterns. I do however need Illustrator for one thing only, which is making layered pdfs. This irks me so much, as I honestly hate Illustrator. It is sluggish and too complicated and intuitive is not, what I would call it. Besides I use Clo 3D to visualize and fit my patterns.
Thank you for this video! I am very impressed with your skills ! How do you choose where to draw those cutting lines, can it be slightly higher or lower or at a different angle ?
Yes, it can. Here's a link to the video I did where I took the excess out of the front and back neckline, which works even better. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CEELkqBu_vI.htmlsi=WYdKXn9BzY-Yg8Me
I currently use Illustrator to alter patterns because I use a projector to cut my fabric. Do you know if this software would be able to manipulate files made in other software and if it’s useful/ more user friendly for pattern alterations ?
It's definitely more use friendly for pattern alterations, but unfortunately, there's no way to import files from another software. I've put some of my paper patterns into it, but this was more of a hack and was very time-consuming.
I like the way that looks! I hadn’t seen your channel before, and I’m glad to have found it now. My whole life I’ve had curves, but now that I’m older, and curvier I’m having to allow for that in my dewy, and pattern making.
I am so tired of watching videos and I thought I had to abandon the idea of drafting my own pants pattern. Then…I just came across your video and I understood! You have given me hope again and I will continue to watch you. Thank you. Truly.
I used to think drafting patterns was too complicated to learn and out of my reach. I was very discouraged. I'm so glad to hear that you have hope again. Thank you for watching.
Thanks, so I would need lengthen the crotch depth as well on both the back and front? I have a pattern where I am one size at the waist and another at the hip. The waistband piece is separate to the trouser piece. I'm not sure if I should widen and lengthen the trouser piece or widen the trouser piece and lengthen the waistband? @@KatrinaKay45
@MsErberb I would adjust the trousers and try to leave the waistband alone, if possible. It also depends on the style of the trousers. I suggest you definitely do a muslin or test garment to see if the waistband needs any length added to it.
Hi K, I have muscle below my waist which dips at my thighs in the front. The widest part in the front is at 4”. My back hip depth is at 7”. The circumference difference is 1” more in the back than in the front. Should I draft my front and back pattern separately?
I am enjoying your videos. Your delivery is smooth, you edit very well. And your voice is steady, lowering my stress in learning. You are a good ambassador for Pattern Master Boutique.
This video about balance lines on pant patterns was very informative; I never knew they could be used in fitting. Pants ar my nemesis and I look forward to your lessons on pants pattern drafting! Thank you!
Thank you, this is incredibly helpful. I think I will actually be able to try this for the first time. It's been feeling like a bit of an endeavour when all the other directions I've been able to find are worked so different to my body shape. (edited to add the link is still working, I've just downloaded the pdf - just clicked on download this article and it gave me the pdf instructions with no issue)
I bought several of the Pattern Masters and I would love to be able to OPEN Child's Play - I can't get past the 1st screen because I don't understand the instructions. I can't find any tutorials. I am TOTALLY LOST - the learning curve on this software is off the charts.
Call or email them. I've called or emailed them several times when I was stuck, and they always got back to me. I don't have Childs Play, but if you send me a copy of the instructions, I'll see if I can help. You can email me at kay@katrinakaycreations.com.
Thank you Katrina for the great video! The pattern I'm making has a facing at the neck that is under stitched and turned to the inside. How do I adjust the facing pieces so that they match the new neckline?
Instead of adjusting the facing, create new facings from your altered neckline. Use the old facings as a guide by measuring the length of the center front and center back. Then make the CF & CB of your facings the same length.
Thank you for this! Very clear directions. The one question I have is - are you sewing PAST the point of your dart? I saw you got to the pin marking the end of the dart and it looked like you sewed past it and off the fabric.
No, I try to sew to the point of the dart, but there are times I sew a little past it. As long as it's pretty close to the dart point, I don't worry about it.
How about when drafting our own pattern. What measurements do we use and where on the pattern? Trying to make pj pants and waist is to small to get up past my hips
Your pj's need to have extra ease in the waist to get the pj's past your hip. Your side seam doesn't need to be shaped above the hip - you can make a straight line from hip, up to the waist. Then, if you have too much ease or more ease than you want, you can take them in.
