And how does this work the other way around? When you want to hard sync video fragments to the audio, the video stays locked to the fps ratio. Anyway to work around that and move video segments freely?

Just did this on an Akai MPKmini MK3. Works great... two layers of tape in my case. First try didn't work on a single pad, but after re-applying the tape, two layers proved being the sweet spot to me.

Does anyone know if this works on the mk3 as well?

Same as everyone else here... discovered this tutorial 4 years ago and I still use it when I'm in a bind. I have no idea how you figured out this technique but it's been so helpful!

To this day this is still the best method out there and the best tutorial on keying in AE. It's saved my ass on so many occasions.

I just did it and it works great! I had to adjust how tight i put the screws in though to get it just right, as one of the pads was sticking, but after 3 tries and 1.5 hours it's perfect. Thanks for the vid man!
