It’s been awhile since I’ve watched your videos, I remember the last time I did I was watching the start of your PA series Im so impressed by your improvement in your transition you sound like a totally different person and I love it. An old friend of mine once said that they could not see me as a girl.. it was a hard hit on me, on my self-esteem and it was rlly, rlly sad.. we dont really talk to each other anymore but.. for some reason destiny wanted me to see him again, i was at a fastfood and he was just there.. looking at me.. yes i was scared, but then he said: "hey Hana, how are you doing? :D" it was a bit if a surprise when he called me for who i really am, somehow my old conservative friend was respecting me and accepting me... wishing the best for me and my life. life is hard, but sometimes things get better, we still dont talk to each other as friends but since that day we are in good terms, he respects me and wish the best for me and my trans friends, and i wish the best for him as well. i wish we could be friends again but sometimes you just have to let it go, it was good while it lasted 😊

I love your criticism of the game. Even though the headspace session is supposed to be long because it’s Sunny’s mind trying to distract him from the truth, it doesn’t make it good. I found myself constantly waiting to just get to the scary bits to be truly entertained. It wasn’t a bad session per se, but it could definitely be shorter and still achieve the same effect. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts in the game, it was a wonderful video!

Despite following you for your PA content I simply felt fully understood as you explained the misery of knowing your mistakes could impact someone so greatly for even something so minor Its not a fear I've ever tried to understand personally, as its something I thought everyone else got over - It might be miserable but I feel seen through how you talked about Sunny thank you Also thank you for coming back <3 I missed your content :')
I feel like the video criticizes a lot of Omori's headspace aspect, and while I agree, I feel like the criticism of the developers is a complete misunderstanding of the entire point of headspace. Sure you can criticize the choice to make the gameplay more monotonous and generally "avoidant" but that's the ENTIRE. POINT. OF HEADSPACE. (Storywise) Headspace is meant to be a distraction, its something to cover up the truth and stop Sunny from finding it, keeping him in ignorance and his brain trying to block out his memories. It actively avoids trying to find Basil and its further evident by how much whitespace tries to erase basil to make Sunny further from the truth. The reason it drags on longer and longer, the reason why it seems to halt the progression of story is that that's the point of it. The Humphrey section, while I'll digress that it probably could have been cut down to be less annoying, is appropriate due to the fact that this is basically white space's final pushback before blackspace and everything else is revealed. The day elements are of course more compelling and more enjoyable for first-time players who don't know, that's the point of it. Whether you think this was a good choice or not, to say that is it poorly designed is just flat out wrong, because it's designed exactly as intended.
Thank you so much for the comment! I'm glad my video managed to spark some discussion, although of course I hope most of it isn't frustration. So sorry if my critiques became annoying after a bit ^^ However, I am fully aware that headspace is a distracting, avoidant force in the story. I am also aware, that many defend headspaces pacing, justifying it as making sense for the story, considering what Sunny's going through. But this argument is the part I happen to disagree on. As I believe, that simply because something makes sense for a situation or character, doesn't automatically make it compelling or good story telling. That in Omori's case, then there are other ways to really make the player feel the avoidant force headspace is meant to be, without taking 10s of hours to do so. And I do believe that if it was always the plan to dedicate so much of the gametime, only to hammer in this point. Then the plan itself could have maybe used some work, to put it nicely. Hope I don't come across as snarky! Tone can be hard through text sometimes. But thank you so much for your comment <3
Unfortunately, the end was so hard to swallow that I... I can't say I like the game. I felt cheated. 4 years later I have not forgotten how bad I felt about it.
I loved the game until the plot twist... I hate it so much that now my overall feeling of the game is kind of "meh". :( I mean, the pushing part is fine, that is somehow believable, but the tree thing?? That just completely broke my immersion.
I actually agree with this and totally understand why this ruined it for some folks. Luckily, perhaps because I'm naive or happened to be really invested when I played ^^, then it didn't knock me out of the immersion. But I do believe Basils involvement and especially the way he was involved, needlessly overplayed something that was already itself, dramatic and horrifying. I really wanted to have more time to talk about basils story in this video. Because, I do think it suffers the hardest from this games flaws. The stretched out main game, leaving him out of the picture almost the whole time.. And by the time we get to the ending, we barely get to know him before it's over. One of the biggest negative consequences that this games pacing has. But as with a bunch of other stuff, then I sadly couldn't fit a segment into the video to address it - -'. @@ScribblyHoots Thank you for replying (to my random venting 😅)! Before I forget to say (again), I really liked your video! What bothers me the most is that I sort of understand why the twist is as it is... If after the stairs incident Basil just made Sunny to run away and pretend that he had nothing to do with the accident (which in my opinion would have been more realistic turn of events), the hanging would not have happened -> the Black Thing design would not have made sense. If, on the other hand, Mari herself had somehow decided to end her life, the Black Thing design would make sense, but then making Mari's death Sunny's fault would have been more difficult. So, it feels like instead of following the "kill your darlings" advice (make the Black Thing design to make sense OR make Sunny guilty), Omocat decided to marry them together... Making the twist unnecessarily melodramatic, almost silly. :( Sorry for ranting (and probably weird English haha)! If you ever feel like making another Omori video, I'd love to hear more about your thoughts regarding Basil's story :)
It shouldn’t be “us and them.” You are allowed to exist in the way you best feel like you should, as long as you’re not purposefully trying to hurt anyone else.
The best way to play through Omori is to NOT answer Kel at the door and instead just keep doing all of Headspace. You then get to fight some extra bosses and see extra content. Then you go on the other route and answer the door, doing the real-life segments and then blasting through the dream stuff. That way, everything hits harder and you don't miss anything.
I didn't have the same negative experience as you at all but I think it's because I preferred the headspace segments so to me the real life segments were just interesting context and I wad quite glad that they weren't too frequent of interruptions
6 years later and the fact that Hollywood is imploding and Disney just a few bad movies from bankruptcy. I guess the big budgets didn’t work so well huh.

(Omori spoilers under the read more!!) Thank you for pointing out the parallels between Sunny pushing Mari and Aubrey pushing Basil!! I'm always talking and thinking about that, how Mari had a bad knee and fell wrong and how Basil couldn't swim- you're absolutely right that the only difference there is luck. That's also part of why I choose to take a more hopeful postcanon interpretation- they ended up forgiving Aubrey for pushing Basil, despite the potentially deadly consequences, and in my view I think that, given time and space and copious amounts of talking, both amongst themselves and with therapists, that the gang could forgive Sunny and Basil
Headspace feels like a big, long, draggy distraction... Because IT IS! Headspace is Sunny's (and Omori's) attempt to drown your attempts at finding the truth and reconnecting with the real world. There's actually a secret route, where you don't answer Kel's second door banging and you remain inside; the real world and all the changes become too much for Sunny and he regresses. Yeah, everyone hates Humphrey; I agree that night's dream should have focused on Last Resort and Deeper Well, to then go to Black space
This arc actually starts when you ignore his first knock, starting the Hikkikomori route. You can do a mixed route by doing the first real world day then ignoring his knocking the second
Welcome back, Scribbs! Always happy to see you upload. This was a fantastic retrospective. I think a lot of people agree OMORI is plagued with pacing issues, which I personally do too, but I feel like this video does a great job at explaining how they affect the experience both negatively and positively. If I had to say something that stood out from my own experience watching the video, is that I hadn't considered the ending "a mess" at all until now, because I hadn't thought about how the larger issues played into it; and yet, I find myself agreeing, but more importantly I love that we can also agree that aspect is confusingly what makes it stand out so much and hit so hard. Congratulations on finishing such an ambitious project! No matter how long the next video takes or what it is, I and many others will be ecstatic to watch it. :3 EDIT: Oh and also, cool as heck thumbnail!

The only thing that makes the ending of Omori feel very rapid (or as I messily described it, messy ^^), is because of the game it's attached to. And yes! One can absolutely still critize and talk about how flawed a game is and then still accept it as a personally beloved experience. And thank you again! for me as a transgirl mannerisms were the very first thing I was excited to do and started doing, even while I was stealth. Like finally being able to wave my hands around and move and shit was so fun!! And then vooiiice!!! Voice training while stealth was a little fun… but it made me sound like a gay man hehe. But now even though my voice fs passes, there’s a lot of things that I physically can’t accomplish without a tremendous amount of voice training (like an additional 5 years onto the 2 that i already have). Like coughing. Sneezing. Laughing (though this one is achievable). Screaming! Yelling (or anything that you would consider at the “top” of your lungs. I have a naturally very low pitched voice and while I can make it higher, that doesn’t change that if I try to scream and produce 100% volume while in that higher pitched voice, it just won’t happen. No noise will come out or it’ll be a bunch of fading in and out and probably be all falsetto and it won’t sound like a genuine scream/shout/yell. Some amab people are blessed with naturally just having a high pitched scream. I am not one of those people
Ever since I came out, my mother has made a correction on her narrative. She told me last year: "Actually, love isn't unconditional. Whoever tells you that is lying to you. I can take my love for you away at any second."
I am so sorry friend.. I do apologize for speaking against your mom, if maybe you'd prefer I didn't.. But I hope for both your sakes, that she realizes sooner rather than later. That if you coming out to her, is the only confrontation her parental worldview can handle before it collapses. Before she decides it's too much to overcome and instead adapts this easy idea to let herself off the hook, that good parents don't love unconditionally. Then she's the one with problems. You're a beautiful person. Love exists, and you're worthy of it. If she begins to put her love as something to earn, then I hope you let her know your love should be earned too. @@ScribblyHoots Hey, thank you! Do not worry about speaking against her, long ago I stopped considering her a "mom"; she's now only a mother. I came out to her four years ago, and she has not changed for the better. But she made her love explicitly conditional and something to earn and maintain not as long ago, I think it was nearing the end of last year. And the thing is, I agree. She's the one with problems. A parent should love their child unconditionally, but like you said, it's easier for her to tell herself the lie that all parents are like her, that all parents can take their love away so easily, because otherwise she's alone. I did tell her that loving her, for me, is a chore. It's an active task and it drains me, it doesn't come to me naturally. This offended her. I think she had me for me to love her, not the other way around. Thankfully I'll get out of her life (or rather, get her out of mine) soon enough, probably next year or so. I'm getting top surgery and starting HRT soon, and she cannot control that, even though she still treats me as though I were a teenager. Thank you so much for your words of reassurance. <3 It has been an arduous four years, but I think I might just make it to the rest of my life now.
