Absolutely lovely, i feel like many of these wild historical styles lend themselves well to improvised altercations as they have so much already going on, adding anything more on looks natural, like the lovely sleeve ribbons

I love the sleeves!!! They look like little unripe pumpkins or pool floaties like any other 1830s gown sleeve. That's a compliment not an insult!!

I had to laugh because the pouf sleeves reminded me of the window treatment valances we loved in the 1980's. The poufier the better, we stuffed them with tissue paper. haha

these are adorable!!! and i am very impressed that you didnt rage quit on these sleeves. the broken needle would have put me off for a couple of days

@eatenkate Год назад
Awesome! Re: breaking needles & tension problems - if you haven't already done so 1) clean the bobbin holder / needle plate from fluff buildup and 2) get some rubbing alcohol on a thin piece of fabric, fold it double and drag it between the tension plates a couple of times to remove any debris that is messing with your tension. It won't make the sleeves suck less but it may go some way toward lessening the amount of peripheral shenanigans.

I think this video showed a point in historically sewing we most times forget. Sometimes it is just working the way around struggles and making it look good and functioning.

Thank you for walking us through your problem-solving for the fit of the sleeves/getting them on and off. When I've had a sleeve that was too tight at the wrists I usually either chop it off or cut a whole new sleeve (or the whole thing ends up in the the UFO pile). Now I've got two new ideas!

I have a challenge for you... and I think you'll like it! There is one "historic" dress I've always loved. I think it's perfect for you to make. It's the 1906? Pepsi Girl dress from advertising trays and posters. It's the one with the highly embellished, blue dress with gold beads and lace. She even looks like you! Please think about it. Love your work!

For gathering, have you ever used elastic thread in your bobbin and regular thread for the top thread? I have and it works well. It's much easier to adjust to the width you need and if you wish to pull out the elastic thread at the end, it comes out easily.

As a designer of 38 years who knows how to sew and pattern are, your work is good.i would have done a couple of things differently but that comes with experience. The only thing I would suggest is that you talk a little slower for those who might not have the knowledge and experience you do. Keep it up!!

My question is... Why not use a single full piece of muslin that fit you as your overall guide..as the lining? The cutting step with the ribbon would have been avoided if you already fit your lower arm. Even if you decide to replace that lining for other, its a great guide for both the full replacement lining and placement of exterior pieces.
