What I would like to know is , Why do we pay for Medicare through our social security when we paid for this while we were working? Why are we penalized for not signing up for Medicare at age 65 when we actually saved the government money?
That this is available at all to anyone who is divorced, and anyone who is not. The married person can also collect on their spouse’s social security if they earned more! Even though you paid in according to your income, but you can collect according to your spouse’s income if it was higher! And if you were married for 10 years and got divorced, you can collect on your exes social security! And we wonder why social security is going broke!
I read recently that u can get a duplicate social security card on line. A duplicate birth certificate can be obtained from the city u were born. I just obtained a duplicate drivers license on line and it took less than a week to receive. Requesting it took only a few minutes.

Don’t wait to sign up for Medicare though, if you do they will impose a penalty. Sign up for Medicare 3 months before your 65th birthday even if you aren’t going to collect your social security at 65.
If you have medical issues, do not wait until age 70. But on the other hand, if you are healthy and don’t need the money immediately, wait until 70 years young.
CLARIFICATION: Social Security is N O T a "benefit" ! It IS an "earned" income which you worked for, at least 10 years. It is N O T a "gift". GET IT STRAIGHT ! 3:00

A few years ago i filled out the paperwork to get a new card & included my Orriginal birth certificate like i was told, & sent it to the office in Temple Texas. I never got a new card OR my B. C. back. Its nearly impossible to get these people on the phone, but i did finally reach them at one point & was told they do not ask for original papers any more. I told them they DID insist i send them & never got anything back. Asked them to please send it to me. Never heard from them. I tried for weeks to reach them again, its been so long now i dont even remember what year i sent it all out. Im 74 now & dont have my birth cert. OR a social security card any more. I have no way to get around & could never make the trip to Temple. Im real discusted with the whole system!
