This RU-vid channel is a video diary of my prostate cancer experience, from my surgery, where my prostate was removed (a procedure known as a prostatectomy), to the post-surgery recovery, and then almost nine years later a second round of treatment to deal with a possible recurrence of the disease. I have created this channel to help other men who have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer share in my experience. We can all get through this, and lead a normal, healthy and long life. Please also visit my Facebook Group "Mark's Prostate Cancer Experience", where you and others can share your experiences. facebook.com/groups/104156783410077/
Good podcast but saying surgery is the gold standard is a bit misleading. The option between surgery and radiation is more complicated depending on age, extent and a number of other factors. You run the risk of viewers thinking that a prostatectomy is the best choice when it may not be for a number of people especially now with many new radiation techniques available.
I treated my cancer in 2017 with Proton Theropy in Hampton Va. No side effects or pain. ED: Can not help as that has been gone a while. Now in 2024 it is back. Proton people want nothing to do with me. Did not know all the after treatment rules. Seeing Dr. Freeze soon.🦇
6 and a bit months on after my surgery and im doing phased hours at work (8 till 12) its my second week of doing these hours after originally doing 9 till 12,im still suffering with fatigue alot which frustrates me quite a bit as i want to do more but physically can’t .Im trying not to get to down about this as there are so many positives to focus on but id be lying if i said its on my mind. My PSA levels have been very good and im so happy about that ,as i was very anxious waiting for each result to come back.Just want to say to anyone on here going through this journey currently is dont beat yourself up too much it does get easier with time even though it seems so far away.....my wife and kids have helped me sooooo much and for that im very grateful....
Mark, your presentation on your prostate experience was very well presented and interesting. I am also a survivor of prostate cancer however I opted for radiation. So far I've survived ( I'm 90 ! ) I look forward to future podcasts. Good luck and keep healthy.
Thank you 🙏🏾 mark for this prostate staying alive motivating video and advice! 👍🏾 God bless you for sharing this. I too! Had my prostate removed in 2021 because of the aggressive type of cancer I had. I went through radiation treatment for 6 1/2 weeks, and I had ADT therapy, and my PSA still came back .02 in 2022, and 0.3 in 2023 🤦🏽♂️. I also had that PET scan done ✅ but at 0.3, my urologist couldn’t see the cancer, because it’s still too small. I do get my 3 month PSA work done to check it, and so far my cancer is stable at 0.3 👍🏾 as of this month in July. My urologist did tell me if the PSA raises to 0.4-0.5, I’ll have to undergo that hormone therapy again, but I’m still alive. 😅 Whether we know this or not, when we survive this prostate surgery, we’re living on extra time my urologist told me. continue to stay alive as long as you can. Thank you again.
A Plant Based Diet, Exercise & Quality Sleep is the best approach... Conventional Treatment & pumping Poison into your body cures NOTHING! Owen is now in Remission. He regretted doing Chemo/Radiation. It came back... And that's when he changed his Lifestyle. Check out "Cancer Fighter Owen" RU-vid Videos.
Hi Mark - thanks so much for your wonderful videos! They have been my North Star as I’ve progressed from prostatectomy to ADT and soon Proton Therapy. Question: did you experience breast tissue growth while on Orgovyx and/or did you take a preventative like Tamoxifen? Thanks! 🙏
I am 65 and have Gleason 7 prostate cancer. I have been traveling to Vanderbilt University Hospital because they are a prostate cancer center of excellence. I live about three hours from Vanderbilt. My doctor says I am border line treatment so I am currently doing active surveillance. I anticipate I will within the next year have to make a treatment decision: surgery or radiation. I am currently leaning toward surgery. Your videos have been very helpful, but I must say I am scared to death over both treatment options.
Mark I really do enjoy your videos however I am still wondering why you were seeking all of those treatments. You said you had a low grade Gleason score. But you still had the prosectomy.. then you got radiation for a 0.40 PSA!? 40 treatments? Plus ADT? I just don't know Mark. I just saw a recent video saying that you should wait till your PSA gets closer to ... One and a half or even TWO before you do .... RADIATION. So the PSMA pet scan can pick it up.
I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago and my surgery is scheduled for 5 weeks from now. I've been doing a lot of research online and I came upon this channel a week ago and it has been a great resource. It doesn't have to be all technical and scientific to be useful. Learning about the actual experience is probably more useful than anything else and this video series certainly achieves that. I'm not really worried about the whole process or even for the future. I have to say though, the catheter experience and the subsequent incontinence does have me uneasy. This particular video went a long way towards making me feel more at ease. I'm sure I'll be uneasy again right after the surgery, but as Mark said, when you consider the prognosis, you can live with it. I'll be watching the rest of the series leading up to my surgery. Thanks for putting this together, Mark.
Mark, we dont have proton here, only external beam with no colon protection. 2 of our friends said they finished radiation and their whole bottom, penis, testcles, pelvic area was burnt black quoting them 'radiation was dirty and nasty'. Hubs is scared of any treatment.
Thank you Mark for your thorough and detailed account of your experiences - I’m 75 and I think I’m in reasonable condition. Ihad my prostatectomy 7 months ago - I think it went very well - my incontinence has been improving and although I am able to get post-op orgasms my erectile function is not what it was - I did my Kegels exercises religiously for months but I’ve balked at the idea of the pump, injection and viagra options - I think I might have to step-up my recovery program again now - having listened to your humble but detailed account of your experience - with keen interest- thank you 🙏
Had my robotic surgery 5 months, thanks to Marks early podcasts I was able to be confident in taking this route and along with my spouse got through this and recovery uneventful....I was fortunate to only have a catheter for 1 week...and light pads after 2 weeks ....no pads at all last 6 weeks
Hi ya Mark watched your videos from the start now on no 21 I had date 29th of this month cancelled and a new date 19th August I find the exercise pretty good just got to concentrate on my diet all the best Mark your doing well
What is the "LONG TERM SOLUTION". Is ADT just the what all Uroligist resort to when nothing else has worked OR has Identified where the cancer is in my body???
Gentlemen, if they suggest having surgery to you please investigate the alternatives. The modern treatment is CyberKnife, but you have to go and find it. I have Gleason 4+3 and I was told by a surgeon at my local hospital that the treatment for me was surgery. Long story short, we were talking on the telephone later and he said this to me: ‘when you look into this you’ll find what we do is barbaric’. I looked into it and spoke to two professors and two consultants. I elected CyberKnife with one of them. I’m starting hormone treatment now and I’ll have CyberKnife in about 2 months time. It’s 5 treatments over a week and a half, there’s no pain at all unless you call the lowest grade of irritation pain, there’s no catheter, the prostrate stays where it is, no nerves are cut, the chances of incontinence are virtually nil, the return of sexual function is much better, the list goes on and on. There’s lot’s of information about it here on RU-vid about it. As an aside, all the top people I went to see strongly recommended that I have a PET CT scan to check that the cancer hasn’t spread, but when I took this message back to my home town they looked at me as if I had two heads, so I ended up having it in London paid for willingly by my health insurers. I wish you well with whichever path you go down, but if you don’t need to be in a rush, don’t be and check out your options. It can be a lot easier in the long run 😊
Im 6 weeks post op. Not much leakage. 1 pad per day. A lot of sweating at night though. PSA test upcoming in maybe a week or so. Immediately after the op was not too bad , catheter out a week later. Very badly constipated because of pain relief tablets, but that was expected. Started exercising straight away and am now back using weights , and a LOT of walking. Especially upstairs. Hoping for a good PSA coming up. And determined to get some kind of erectile function going forwards. Much love to all going through this , but stay positive try not to worry. I know its hard. Im 65 , and will gladly answer any questions anyone who is just starting this process has . ❤
You are 100 % honest which I really respect. This whole thing is not a pretty picture or a pleasant part of life . I need to be knocked out for my biopsy. Sounds like you had a great surgeon. I guess the radiation didn’t work out the first time . Thanks for sharing your experience.
