Hi doctor . I have 2 cm uterine thickness. I have fibroids My periods stop .im 43 . My levels of estrogen are high I’m waiting for biopsy . Does 2 cm uterine thickness means hyperplasia?
There's so many people saying they can't conceive or carry a pregnancy to full term after removing the IUD. It's really worrying me. I got it early this year but want to have kids in the future
I hurt terribly during removal, and hurt cramping for 2 hours after reeaaally bad! Then started passing chunks of blood and went full on period like a teenager day 2 after removal and it’s 3 days in so far and I’m cramping and hurting like period cramps, but I am concerned something is wrong! I haven’t seen anyone feel like I do, they didn’t hardly feel it, so was mine in the wrong place 5 years? I’m afraid to use a tampon in case I’m injured. I hope you see this and respond ❤
The chance of pregnancy with an IUD alone is 2-8/1000. Most patients feel comfortable with that low risk and do not concurrently use condoms (unless they are using condoms for STI protection with a new partner). Some patients prefer to also use condoms to further reduce the chance of pregnancy.
Thank you so much! Your video is so helpful. I have been having bleeding issues for a few months and on progesterone orally. Tomorrow I am having a DC procedure for hyperplasia. My gynecologist recommended an ablation but after watching your video I spoke to the doctor and requested the IUD. Thank you again
If I make it to Heaven, the first thing I'm going to ask God is why He made me go through all of this - purely by giving me a womb, when He knew that I would never have wanted kids!
Hi doc i having an IUD 2 years ago .. i didn't visit the doctor to check my IUD position but i have regular period every month. Sometimes i feel pain in my abdomen area isn't irritable feeling. What can i do ?
IUD - mirena and kyleena - were the two I had inserted. They’re indeed very efficient as birth control and for period issues, problem is what they can do to the skin. I took mine out and I had a looooong battle with the melasma they caused me.
I went to get an IUD and they didn’t even give me a choice… guess the insurance picked…I got copper, not what I had …now stuck with it. Copper had a lot of negatives ..
How long would you recommend to leave mirena in after being on magestrol for endometrial hyperplasia, I was told it has cleared but I was put on iud for adjuvant treatment. I’ve been spotting everyday since with headaches/migraines very mild cramps but would it be soon to start trying for baby?
Ive had mirena for 5 years. So spotting and mild cramps are normal? Ive read at the 5 year mark the hormones decline. Is this true? Thank you in advance !
Yes, although Mirena (52mg Levonorgestrel IUD) is now approved for 8 years of use, the hormones do decline somewhat at around the 5 year mark- so bleeding/spotting may increase then (this does not indicate that the IUD is less effective at pregnancy prevention) If you are concerned about a change in your bleeding, see your doctor.
The insertion was so bad that I start getting a panic reaction whenever the doc mentions removal so I am sure it will hurt like a b... cause I will tense up. That thing was the one of worst decision of my life. I keep having infections and doing anything warranting that thing just hurts now.
@@tracymayer5519 I was asked to cough. It was a short pain that lasted 2-3 seconds then I had a couple of mild cramps and it was finally over. The pain wasn't too bad cause it was gone almost right away and far from the insertion pain level. No bleeding, nothing.
Got my iud a year and some months ago , my strings have always been a certain length consistenly but check today and they weren't length like before ,they aint curved towards the cervix , can hardly feel them , it's like a tinny piece of it out ,more of same surface level like the cervix opening wea they are ... They aint like they wea b4 Could it have displaced????
What is the difference between levonogestrol and the progestrin in the minipill? If both are progesterone and you bleed with the mini pill, whose to say the IUD would work better?
The hormonal IUD contains the progestin Levonorgestrel. The “mini pill” (or progesterone only pill) contains the progestin Norethindrone. They have slightly different properties. In addition, the progestin in the IUD is delivered directly to the lining of the uterus (locally acting) while that of the mini-pill needs to travel through the bloodstream to reach the uterus (systemically acting). Thus, the impact on bleeding may be different.
Hi my name is Hannah from Canada I got a iud my boyfriend said I have my period than he thinks that I don’t know my body I think I’m pregnant cause I been moody my emotions all over the place so help?
I've used marina for 28 years i have one child but complicated pregnancy s so marina was best choice for me docter said but my marina I had last fitted has migrated so getting a scan soon the one I had previously fitted before that was falling out so recently not much luck with marina I'm thinking of changing my contraception
I had mine inserted only a day before my period was due, I changed method of contraception from the pill to the coil, so I know I was supposed to get my period. But it’s now 5 days after insertion and no sign of my period. I’m having period cramps but no bleeding apart from weird egg like discharge. I’ve been googling so much and I haven’t found any answers. I’m from the UK and to get a doctors appointment here is not an easy thing at all. Please help 😭
With kyleena i had a lot of spotting all the time. It was annoying af. After 5 years i switched to mirena. Now there is no spotting and my periods are very light and short.
Hello, I just got my Copper iud removed today after 8 years and it came out without the copper coils around it. Is this normal? Are they still inside me or can I get pregnant?
Because I was not able to personally witness the state of the IUD before insert and after removal, I cannot comment. This channel is not intended to provide personalized medical advice. Talk to your doctor.
Hiii dr is heavy white discharge postpartum. and after stop feeding the baby heavy bleeding...... with leg pain, back and lower abdomen pain is ???? something very serious
I got diagnosed with EH without atypia I first started taking progesterone pills but then I got the IUD in my bleeding has been heavy but not as how it was 3 months ago I was wondering while the IUD starts to work can I still take the pills to help me with the bleeding or it’s not safe?
Dear Doctor Dervaitis, I have a couple of questions to you regarding the IUD insertion by you: 1) Do you do this in the first few days of the patient's period? 2) Do you use ultrasound while inserting the IUD? Thank you!
1) It can be done at any time in the menstrual cycle. 2) I do have access to an ultrasound in my office and check IUD positioning with ultrasound immediately after insertion. This is an optional step, ultrasound is not mandatory during or after IUD Insertion. -Dr. Dervaitis
Is there a best time of your cycle for insertion? I’m curious if getting it inserted right after your period would let it all calm down before your next one?
No evidence for this. In my practice, I insert at any time of the cycle. Some practitioners advise insertion during menses as a way of ensuring the patient isn’t pregnant (in my office I do lab pregnancy testing) and because the cervix may be slightly more open during menses. -Dr. Dervaitis
For people with medical anxiety, is checking the strings enough to be reassured that it’s staying in the right spot? I’m wondering for peace of mind and reducing that anxiety, if it would make sense to have regular checks at the doctor’s office, or ultrasounds every 6 months/year - or if that is over the top and unnecessary? I want to get the mirena soon, but want to make sure I have a plan so I don’t live with anxiety about it after reading too many “horror stories.”
In my practice, I do a one month and also a one year check (and additional office visits subsequently if the patient has new concerns). If you feel your anxiety requires more frequent scheduled visits, you would need to discuss this with your doctor. -Dr. Dervaitis
I’ve had a kyleena iud for 2 years now, and my periods are extremely irregular. I never know when it’s coming or how long it will last and I often get periods twice a month. I’ve had my IUD checked to make sure it’s still in place and it is. Is this normal?
I’m 41 years old. My mom at the age of 43 was over period. Almost two months ago I changed my method from pills to copper IUD. It so weird because as soon I stopped the pills and got the copper IUD I have been fellings some flashes that just come a few seconds no more than a minute and then they are over. Next week I m going to have two months from the paragad insertion while I was on my period and since that day, I haven’t seen my period again. Contrary what they used to say my period has stopped with a copper IUD. I have had some spotting yes but really light. At this point I’m thinking seriously I have started the menopause. I m just giving some more weeks of adjustment. Maybe 4 more and then I have to consult this. I would like a video about experience menopause with copper IUD. Thank you
The copper IUD does not influence the onset of menopause. If a patient with a copper IUD stops menstruating, it is due to natural menopause, or pregnancy, or other potential causes of secondary amenorrhea (the cessation of menses). If you have questions about your period (or lack of a period…) see your doctor (this channel is not intended to provide personalized medical advice). -Dr. Dervaitis
@@dr.kristinadervaitis789 thank you for answering. I am on my period now. I got it after two months of the copper IUD. And yes my Dr told me I’m premenopausal now.
@@SamanthaNelson-xg7eisame no good reviews I came across…. Then I’m reading you can get reoccurring yeast infections and BV… the IUD can get lodged in your cervix and can lead to having it have to be surgically removed. I get mine next week…. Keep me posted on how it went for you!
i have taken out the mirena after 9 months, I kept bleeding 50% of the time. did keep getting cramps from time to time and then bleed. I prefer a heavy period over this cramps and blood all the time
I am 40 and have suffered for years with heavy periods. I am scheduled to get a Mirena in 3 weeks. The tenaculum freaks me out. I don't like the idea of an IUD but am so desperate to control this bleeding I'm willing to try anything. Praying this works and I don't end up worse or pregnant. Very informative video.
Your videos made me decide to get the Kyleena years ago! I had only seen horror stories on the internet before, and your channel was so informative! I had it for almost 4 years and had it removed recently. I've been struggling with hair loss for about 3,5 years and after trying diet changes, supplements and doing blood work that came back normal, I finally realized the one thing that changed in my life over that period was the Kyleena. I found others online who had the same problem, and I decided to get it removed. I'm curious if you ever had a patient with the same problem? Kyleena says that less than 3% of people have this side effect, but I wonder where the statistics come from and how realistic they are.
Glad you found the videos informative! In my experience, hair loss is not a frequent consequence of Levonorgestrel IUD use. I have not had any patients requesting removal for this reason. -Dr. Dervaitis
I got mine fitted last week and I only need to insert the tip of my finger (the first line on my finger) and I can feel the string.. does this mean it’s too low? I don’t have to reach far at all..
It depends on how long the strings were cut. Generally, the strings should not be very low or near the opening of the vagina. If you are concerned about the position of your IUD, use back up contraception and see your doctor. -Dr. Dervaitis
@@dr.kristinadervaitis789 hey! I went to my doctors and the nurse said ‘woah, I can see what you mean they’re very low’ she cut them and been fine since :) x
I’ve been watching your videos for over a year and it helped a lot to overcome my fears! Thankfully my experience getting it was not even that bad. It went exactly as you described: short, with two cramps, and mild cramps afterwards for 2 days. Would do it all over again 🙏🏽
