The most useless video ever on RU-vid. Locking wheel nut removal???? Absolutely useless this clip, your theory does NOT work, delete this stupid I fo-less clip now.
If you get an Alan key across the flats the same size as the hole and hammer it into the hole, you can undo the nut. This method has worked in our tool room in the past.
I’ve got four bolts to get off a Peugeot because the key’s been lost. Plan to weld a 25mm od tube to the bolt so I can weld on the inside of the tube and not damage the alloys. Not seen anyone else try this way yet, I could be the first!
The method you mentioned around 4 minutes, I have tried this and the centre twisted off, leaving just the bottom of the nut, and impossible to then get off
I never had that happen tbh, but i can imagine that coukd happen if it was totally over torqued. If that happened it would be pretty easy to get off if you have a small welder. In fact i will grind one down flat and show a video of how to weld one
Get a cold bladed chisel and a lump hammer, then hit the collar on the edge and it should break or snap. Then bang a 19mm socket, or one that is tight, and remove it that way.
They are on there..they are generic..fits all types..ebay item number 273503539500. Or just buy an ordinary key £14 and grind down 3 notches inside the key
lol ,,, youve clearly never come across a tight one ,,, personally I take them off with aa mig welder running about 200 amps , a copper tube a spray bottle of water and a lot of skill.
True, ive never had one i couldnt remove yet.. but if i had to weld I would go with 97 amps stick weld the 4 grooves. But havent had any overtorqued so far.. but im sure the day will come!
@@wheelrepairs I do quite a few ,,,, usually put on three or four years ago by the tire fitters with a rattly gun , I have a technique that involves burning through the outter layers and bonding the two layers together but not welding the nut to the stud at the same time , then welding a big stand off onto the lotas you work out ,,, the heat must be kept up too of course ,,, with the rim being kept cool ,,, the later nuts have a really good heat treat too and wont die grind either ,,, but like yourself , Ive not had one I cant get off yet , I charge 125 quid a time and its no cure no pay .
Yes.. ive seen a couple of people do that.. the center stub is not very wide so you have to be careful. Yes daft design, i had to weld one out today after AA had recessed it!
Many thanks for the impact socket idea. Got 3 off my Citroen C4GP but forth was being a sod and must have tapped it back rendering it useless. Had me completely baffled until I saw your video. Regards John.
I know lol, I bought it from a very very old lady in Wolverhampton for £20. It was sitting on an old style metal bin in the alley way... soon as I saw it I thought oh yeah baby that will sit nice in the garage.. but it ended up in the van..Ive broke it twice now and need to find a new one!
@wheelrepairs nice same ones we had way back in high school when a was a boy clocked it straight away great big vises never seen one mobile before hahaha
lol, you know.. I've really got attached to it and wouldn't want to be without it now, kinda got used to the way it thinks...done some monster work with it, but sadly cracked it in the snow few weeks back, I did weld it but cracked it again a few days back again in very cold temps. I'm going to keep it for removing bolts from sockets, but its default setting is now ramshackle bodgit n scarper.
I have several sets of reverse thread removers..they are all thin walled. The prob with halfords type is that they only fit car wheels that have lots of room where the bolt / nut sits because the walls are so thick. Plus its a two socket pack..so only two sizes! But its a real go to if you have lots if room in your rim and its the correct diameter for your locking wheel nut.Positive point with these halfords is that they will not crack! Bad news is the halfords reverse thread will not fit these type of locking wheel nuts at all. You have to physically remove the spinning collar to fit a very small reverse thread. Halfords are way to big for these.
The reverse thread socket will not work with these type of locking wheel nuts as the spinning collar makes the threaded socket useless. You would have to remove the collar first and then purchase a very small diameter reverse thread to fit over the center stud, or fit a standard 6 sided small socket.
@@wheelrepairs thanks for your response. And excuse my ignorance I did watch your video from start to finish great content and very informative keep up the good work 👍🏽
