This BMW arrived with the locking wheel nut key missing. The customer had several incorrect sized spline keys. None of them fitted and the problem was the lug nut itself was well over torqued. Quite possibly twisting the bolt inside the wheel, giving it a sort of hour glass shape. Thus weakening the material of the bolt. When you try remove these even when you do get the correct size spline key it just shears off all the teeth inside inside the bolt itself, in general the only option then is to drill it out or to weld a nut onto the top .I prefer to use a smooth bore conical right from the get go and then weld as a last resort.
