I wanted to like “ All Fours” but it didn’t work for me either. I also felt it was trying too hard. I found myself comparing it to “ Splinters” by Leslie Jamison. I realize one is fiction and the other is a memoir. Jamison’s book was so well done and rang much more authentic to me.
I'm currently reading Dinner at the homesick restaurant by Anne Tyler and it's lovely 😊... Brotherless night was a good book indeed! Like you rightly said very informative and it is best read as an audiobook (I feel).... Habitations is on my tbr... would like to get to it soon 😊
Well Russell, 4 out of 12 isn't bad, right? I added three to my TBR (The Husbands, Habitations and Brotherless Night) and I already have The Extinction of Irena Ray on my shelf. As soon as this heatwave ends (we're setting records every day), and my brain is no longer mush, I'll try to get to some. I'm currently reading Master Slave Husband Wife. It's excellent but, like I said, my brain is mush so it's going very slowly.
Some great books there. I however did not get along with Parade at all, I found it a bit confusing and very pretentious. Not for me. I have been having a slow reading month as I'm still trying to get through Praiseworthy by Alexis Wright which is a very big and dense book.
I can see that about Parade. It was certainly a challenge, not the easiest of her books for sure. I need to read some Wright , I have only heard amazing things.
Great suggestions and added several to my TBR list. I have yet to attempt a Rooney book for several reasons, too much angst, little plot and no dialogue quotation marks which drives me insane!
Again, another GREAT showcase of books coming up in the late summer/early fall! Most of these made it on the TBR list: Stand outs for me: Intermezzo Creation Lake Small Rain Mina’s Matchbox There are Rivers in the Sky Thank you again!! 📚
Must check out the Garth Grenwell, thanks for this, sounds fabulous. My forthcoming book is an autobigraphical verse-novel called 'Hounded'. I preview it on my BookTube channel. So much contemporary poetry (& books about it) to revel in.
So many new (to me) books - wow! Thanks for all these cool recommendations. I have really enjoyed discovering your BookTube. Really love your open, inclusive & passionate reviewing.
It has been such fun discovering your channel - wow! I'm an old fella who lives in a tiny house with the light of his life, an ex-racer, rescue greyhound named Billy-Blue. I also love fantasy & magical realism, but poetry (especially contemporary) is my life. I really look forward to following your adventures with books.
Some books to recommend to you. I’m currently listening to The God of the Woods by Liz Moore The In Between by Christos Tsiolkas The feel good romance I’ve finished and loved A Dash of Salt and Pepper Just For The Summer Leading Man Top Secret Orbital
I would love an entire video about your favorite books featuring little old ladies! In the meantime, I am going to look for Sipsworth! (Among others you mentioned)
Great review - I found a new title to read, and will also move Real Americans up on my TBR! Still need to read James, but decided to revisit Huckleberry Finn first. Thank you for sharing your love of good books!
I really enjoy your insights into books. I have read so many of your suggestions and have never been let down. Your enthusiasm for books and reading is so contagious. Keep up the good work!
Hey there! The only one on your list that I read was Martyr, which I really liked! I will have to check out the others! Right now I am reading The Road to the Country by Chigozie Obioma..currently 140 some pages in and liking it so far!
I just saw The Road to the Country the other day. It is on my radar. I hope you pick one of these up - I think you will love some of them. Hi to you and the hubby.
@@InkandPaperBlog I am sure that I will! I believe you would like The Road to the Country! It is really good! I have 99 pages to go! Hello to your guy as well!! 😀
Oh, I loved this! I haven't even thought about my top 10 of the year, mostly because I can't believe it's July! I added Sipworth and Bear to my TBR. I have Martyr and Real Americans on my shelf already. I too loved James. I just finished one I think is a very Russell book - How to Read a Book by Monica Wood. Have you read it? I loved everything about it. Plus, it has older(ish) characters, which we both like. FYI, it is not an instruction manual 😂 It's friggin' hot here too (34°C today); stay cool!
Thank you for another delightful video. Adding Bear and Come And Get It to my TBR. While waiting for my library hold of Real Americans, I picked up Goodbye, Vitamin, which you mentioned in a previous video. I loved it so much. Five stars. Can’t wait for Real Americans. Looking forward to Kiley Reid’s book. She was the main speaker at our annual book festival a couple of years ago and was a delight! Very inspiring, funny, insightful, and down-to-earth. I enjoyed Such A Fun Age. Looking forward to this one as well. I adored In Tongues, which was another great recommendation by you. Stay cool, and thanks again for a great video. I love the way you talk about books.
Thank you so much for your support over all this time. You are always too nice to me! Reid is an amazing speaker. I hope I get another great read from me in the coming months. :)
This list is terrific and now I want to read them all. James is my best read so far this year. I am counting the days until Tell Me Everything appears. I've been apologizing for my noisy AC in every video!
Russell, you are a joy to listen to. You have a gift for succinctly condensing the gist of books without gimmicks or artifice, and I appreciate that. It’s like listening to a friend who also loves books but is much better read. I’ve finished 4 from your list and added several others to my TBR list. Thank you. 😊
Hi Russell. It's good to see you again. I haven't read any of these, but "James" is at the top of my list.. I loved "The Trees" and I'm looking forward more of Everett. Your AC didn't bother me because I couldn't hear it over sound of my own AC. My great-grandfather was born in Norway inside the Arctic Circle, and I am not built for 100 degree weather.
