I'm a Canadian living in Indonesia, touring solo (mostly) around the country on a small motorcycle (Kawasaki Ninja 250 SL Mono ). I'm not mechanically inclined, I don't know much about "adventure riding" or trail riding, I don't have all the latest gear but my new(ish) motorbike has now been modified into sort of an adventure bike. I plan to ride and camp around the entire country in the months to come and I hope I can take you on amazing rides around this beautiful country and explore the roads, beaches, the food, the people and the culture, and all of this on a (very) tight budget. Heck, if Ted Simon could get around the world with basic gear in the early 70s, I should be able to get around one country. Tag along and enjoy my rides, and remember, Life's a journey, so... Let's Ride On!
You are having a great ride Daniel and I'm really enjoying your journey. I'm sure you're enjoying the lack of traffic on Sumbawa's roads. If you feel up to it, the climb up Mt Tambora is well worth the effort. The massive crater is one of the wonders of the world. You can do it from Doro Ncangga where the National Park headquarters are located, from Pancasila or from Piong on the south eastern side of the peninsula. I have climbed twice and it was unforgettable. The picture quality is this vid was quite poor at times. Don't know why. Hope you are feeling better now.
Thanks Steven. Yes, I'm not sure why the quality dropped all of a sudden. I'm using the same settings as with the other video uploads. I am having a marvellous time and I'm totally enjoying the ride and the camping along the way. Mt. Tambora sounds great! Unfortunately, I don't think I can climb anything right now, since breaking my femur in an accident about a year ago. Besides, I'm not in that area anymore. Thanks for your comments and for watching. I totally appreciate it!
I've done a trip similar to a solo rider using a motorbike and a tent, but in Aceh, bathing at the mosque, sleeping with a tent on the beach... a fun and tiring adventure
@@jekyllsride try the Aceh Central National Road, the Aceh Central Cross Road, Blangkejeren - Takengon, the highest national road in Indonesia at 1900 meters above sea level
Another really enjoyable report on your progress. The peace and beauty of Sumbawa's less travelled roads is food for the spirit. Btw, what is the name of that hotel you stayed at for future reference. There is an excellent bakery, Cipta Sari Bakery, at No 74 Jalan Hasannudin. Say "Hi" to Eric Wirawan from me if you get a chance. Thanks for sharing. You are feeding my wanderlust while I endure a cold Australian winter
Thank you so much. I’m so glad you are enjoying it. The hotel is BIS Homestay, in Sumbawa Besar. It’s a great value. I highly recommend it. Totally agree about the roads!!
@@StarkeyFamilyVideos As you have seen s-w Sumbawa is a magnificent part of the world. And you will have it all to yourself. To stand by the side of the road and listen to the birdsong - and nothing else, because there is nothing else - is just so beautiful. I consider myself very lucky to have journeyed to Maluk in 2008 and then, with the aid of locals, get to Lunyuk by motorcycle and on foot. I have been back by motorcycle many times since and I just love it.
Got to love reggae. You have experienced one of the best rides in Sumbawa. When you get further east if you head to Hu'u beach, beyond Dompu, there is a road east of Hu'u that I call "The Road to Nowhere." It literally ends in the jungle in sight of a lighthouse atop a lonely headland. You get spectacular view of the coast and you won't see a soul. Good spot to camp.
Beautiful Daniel! Probably good decision not to camp in the jungle and enjoy that ride up to Sumbawa Besar during the day. I hope to take that road later this year. Hopefully the jungle will not have taken all over till then 😅
Looks like a nice ride. I'm actually in the Labuan Jambu area of Sumbawa and I took the northern coast route. It was cool getting to see the southern route. Good luck on your travels, I looks forward to seeing your next segment. Sumbawa is an amazing place to ride.
I knew you'd like that ride Daniel. Great video. It brought back a lot of happy memories. The rest of the ride to Sumbawa Besar following the Lunyuk River valley is just as spectacular.
I really enjoyed the video. I"ve lost count of how many times I've visited Sumbawa. There are many great beaches in that area. that have never seen a sun lounge or been stabbed by a beach umbrella - long may they exist in their untouched state. Great music. It's bloody freezing in the southern part of Australia right now. Max temp where we are was 9°C today.
OK, the end of the video left me anxious 😅 i was watching the sun going down while watching your map. Stress 😂 As usual, an entertaining and informative video.
Another excellent video. Shot selection, music, variety, honesty - all good. I once rode a very challenging goat track for 20km. Got to the main road. Did a right downhill turn, pullled up and bike fell over to the right mainly due to my in- attention and not helped by the camber of the road. Maybe reload your gear, heavy stuff as low as possible. Although you've probably moved on by now, the ride along the south coast from Kuta to Telok Mekaki is spectacular. I am really enjoying your journey, Daniel
Another fine video. You have taken me to some places that I'm yet to visit in Lombok. How much time do you have for this trip? There are some great spots in the south and the best coastal scenery in Lombok is there too. Perhaps on the way back. Also Tanjung Ringgit on the S-E coast is worth a visit.
Pretty interesting day. Be careful. My weapons of choice while camping are a powerful strobe flashlight and a whistle. There is nothing better than a flashlight. I have never had to use them, but they are always with me. Stay safe. Nice to see you wearing Kevlar jeans and krisbow steel tip boots.😂
Yeah, I have a walking stick ready at my side. Problem is, I didn’t want to startle them cause I’m not sure how they would react, flee or attack? I’m just glad it worked out in the end, hehe.
Great video, Mr. Daniel! I've been enjoying your videos for a while, and I think they've gotten much better. Just one suggestion: maybe turn down the volume of the music a little, I feel like the music is significantly louder than the other parts of the video. So far, I think episode 2 is the best overall. I enjoyed watching you interact with the locals, eat the local food, etc.
Excellent video and music. I have travelled those roads a few times and stayed at Pondok Siti Hawa a few times too. First time was 2009. Siti Hawa is such a lovely woman and herlate husband, Puk Hussin, was really passionate about keeping the beaches clean. He did a lot to creare environmental awareness in the area. Thanks for sharing. You are doing a great job. Don't forget that ride I suggested you do in Sumbawa - it's epic!
Yes, they are excellent people. I really enjoyed my stay there. I’m in Sumbawa now. I forget the road you suggested, but I plan on going all around the island. Thanks for watching! Really glad you’re enjoying it!
The route I suggested was Poto Tano then south to Maluk and Sekongkang. Thereafter, east to Lunyuk then north to Sumbawa Besar. You coud do it on the way back west if you've missed the chance to do it now. Btw, I highly recommend you drop in the Lesehan Santong for ikan bakar. It straddles the bay at Telok Santong just where the road reaches the sea. It's about 30km east of Plampang. Enjoy.
@@jekyllsride I definitely will. I was in Sekongkang in March this year. Accommodation was in short supply as PT Amman who are operating the Batu Hijau gold/copper mine (formerly operated by Newmont Mining) have leased some of the homestays for their workforce. I struck gold on the 4th place I called at. In fact it's one of the first places you come across. It's on the right - Mega Arafah Homestay operated by Pak Achmad and his lovely wife Fatma. Pak Achmad worked in Egypt, Lebanon and Saudi back in the 80s - a lovely man. You are doing me a great service by keeping me in touch with the part of Indonesia that I love the most - the fabulous islands of NTB and NTT. BANYAK TERIMA KASIH.
Man your video is getting better! One of the best so far. Im pretty sure you put so much thought and work on the editing process. Love the different approach of the opening music when you enjoy your coffee on the beach, and many cool different footages as well when you driving. Always excited to watch your next videos because we never been there, and you make it interesting, and we want to know your story more. Keep the good work mate!! Have a great journey!
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-InC6BA8rBYk.html. Some of my close calls. This was a few years ago and I did not react the way I would act now. I grew up a lot during that trip. Stay safe out there.
Yeah mate. If you learned a thing or two, and walked away, they are lessons, not mistakes. Had a few close calls over the last 23 years a well. I hope I learned the lessons. Cheers!
When you’re heading back to Surabaya, go south, across Ijen, stay a night in Jember and then over Bromo to Malang. It’s absolutely beautiful and traffic is mellow. Have a great trip! I’ll be following along.
I’ll be heading back to Surabaya from the west, after going around the whole country, but I’ve been in the Banyuwangi-Ijen-Surabaya Roads a few times. ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MVeCjbWk5FQ.htmlsi=P8MiarhwmQwORaMU ) As well as through Jember. Definitely a good way to avoid trucks and buses.
Hi Keva! I hope you liked the video! It's the first one of my trip around Indonesia. Now, I'm spending a few days in Bali with my friends and my daughter. I'll continue my journey in a few days.
