I’ve been having an interesting conundrum lately, so get out that Sherlock getup again, Kyle. I’m your height, have a similar rope length (roughly 8 ft.), and have previously skipped with good form with a small strike zone, but recently, with the same rope length and shoes, it’s hitting much farther out. If I tie a knot, it barely traces, or even misses, the ground, and I don’t have enough room for crossovers. The answer is my form, but it’s hard for me to figure out what’s different. I suspect my having not worked out certain muscle groups lately may have affected my jumping posture. Maybe I brought my hands even closer to my sides lately, but my form wasn’t bad before. One thing I noticed is how the strike zone decreases when my basic skip has the handles pointed out to the sides more instead of being more forward at the start of the rotation. I like to flare my wrists diagonally, push down with my thumbs, and let the rope rotate my wrists. I’ll keep filming, try to be efficient, and make sure I’m not neglecting certain muscle groups.
@Jump15official
@Jump15official Час назад
Haha I may have to! Based on the description you have provided I deduce that your hands may be drifting forward, lower or a combination of the two causing the rope to bottom out early. This would also explain why trying a shorter rope is then too short. Record a side shot version and see if you can identify the issue (use slow motion). If you want to get it under a 🔎, let me know and we can set something up🤙
@Murphy2043
@Murphy2043 50 минут назад
Thanks! That could very well be it. I have long arms so my hands being too far forward is feasible. I suspect my chest, traps, and shoulders need more engagement to bring my arms back more. I know you prefer to engage the lats and bring the shoulders down so I'll see if that helps.
@Jump15official
@Jump15official 32 минуты назад
@@Murphy2043 when it comes to muscle engagement, be careful to not become stiff. With a light rope (basic 5-6mm PVC weight) you want to be relaxed as the centrifugal force won't be much. The main thing is you don't want to be actively pulling your shoulders back or shrugging them. I love to see that you are digging deep on what is working and finding what doesn't. 👍🤜

Something I'm not getting here. If I stand with one foot on the rope then, the level to the bottom of the handles is in line with my nipples. If I stand on the rope with two feet then, the same rope level comes down below my rib cage, but it is STILL the same length of rope. The difference in length level on the body is obviously longer with one foot stood on it and shorter with two feet stood on it.
@Jump15official
@Jump15official 14 дней назад
Don't compare, just use the two foot method and bring it into the correct zone.

Is there a video anywhere that actually shows how to literally start your jumping? I can't stop doing a huge leap over the rope. How do you actually start off spinning the rope to match your little tiny jumps?? I can't coordinate and get the rhythm happening 😬

@Jump15official
@Jump15official 21 день назад
If you're new to jump rope, this is working foot and lower leg muscles than you ever have. Use intervals and allow to rest and gradually build up continuous jump times. If it continues to hurt you may want to see a doctor👍

It's definitely a game of repetition, but it's a fun process! Was told by a competitive pro jumper that a beaded rope is the best option to learn this. Wasn't the case for me probably because I never use a beaded rope.

If you get a little heavier rope, like a 6mm PVC, it can really help with timing. You'll get it! Just gotta get it to click with your brain.

Actually no, quite the opposite - bad for technique and they look weird, those jump rope jump ropes with the arm fully extended and using only the wrist, which don't involve your biceps and shoulders and also look ugly, are much better like the athletic style of Floyd and Rush and also very natural - notice they use simple ropes, while those guys use some speed ropes with mechanism etc. Also, a short rope is also bad. Boxing style is the best without a doubt, I can say that with 25+ years of experience in skipping rope and 15+ years of boxing, I started when I started training table tennis when I was only 6 years old, and I still jump for every practice. Just look at how Rush Athletics and that girl or Floyd jump, and compare, it looks much more natural and attractive when Rush Athletics and Floyd jump, while this is more acrobatics with a rope in hand than just jumping rope. When you stretch out your arms and turn from the wrist, you look like you are, God forbid, paralyzed in your hands and you can't move them, so you only turn from the wrist :D
@Jump15official
@Jump15official 27 дней назад
It may be your preference, but it's not the best. Boxer style is easy. Tori could easily lengthen her rope and flow like Floyd, but it doesn't work the other way around.

i hate that side swing thing. What's the point when the rope doesn't pass under my feet?
@Jump15official
@Jump15official 26 дней назад
They get your upper body much more involved, raising your heart rate faster. Side swings are fantastic for tying combos together, boosting workout intensity, further developing coordination, and enhancing footwork to name a few. Embrace them, you'll be glad you did and you can add them as much as you want.

I have a question, how can I stop it from wrapping around my head and it hitting my feet
@Jump15official
@Jump15official 26 дней назад
Focus on good form. During this skill it's hard to hit the hand and arm positions at first depending on flexibility. Practice it slow so you don't have the threat of getting smacked hard👍
