The Brotherhood of the Bearded Pigs is run by two brothers, "Tummy" and "Bear", who grew up riding and have recently decided to make a record of their adventures. We hope you enjoy!
always concerns on my body weight, questioning, if this bike is too small for my frame. I'm 6'4" tall, and weigh in at 310, second option is the CFMOTO 800 MT (sold my Goldwing & trailer) want something smaller, getting up there in age
We're both big guys, coming in at around 300 pounds and over 6 ft. The KLR has been comfortable and reliable for both of us. If you're considering some serious off-road activities, them a suspension upgrade would be recommended.
I notice you wear what seems to prescription glasses. Just curious what helmet do you use that accommodates your glasses? I’m having a heck of a time finding something that fits right and is comfortable with my glasses. Thanks in advance
I just got the '24 in that matte blue, mad I waited 2 years but happy I waited for that color. What a great bike! My only grip is I want to keep my enduro helmet, Im going deaf by the wind w/ a helmet and ear plugs and the risers didnt help much. Dealing with that. Going to try the clutch bypass to lower the idle a bit
Great Mods! I'm definitely getting the kickstand pad! Like you I'm budget conscious and slowly adding things to my 22' KLR Adventure. I have the Tusk Foot Pegs, Tusk Shift lever, 3D Cycle Adjustable Windscreen Risers, Tusk Handlebar Risers, Attack tank knee pads. I'm in South Florida so there's not much off-road options so I haven't done the skid plate upgrade yet. And no engine upgrades at this time. I did pull the Air Box Snorkel out and like the extra flow it give plus it's got a deeper throaty sound when I get on the throttle. I also did the 16 tooth front sprocket that help smooth out higher rpm's. I'm originally from Grand Rapids MI and have dreams of road tripping up there in the future. Thanks for your content and have a great summer!
To improve the quality of the videos: Mount the camera, camera shake is annoying. Stop the heavy breathing, pause and catch your breathe; edit out the pauses. Do the finish sanding/ filing before showing the close up of the cut edges and drilled holes. Otherwise, great concept.
Hope you guys are doing well. Miss seeing your videos and rides/hikes. Thanks for turning me onto Mototomic, i plan on getting a 40 liter in the near future! Stay awesome, Stay bearded! Jon
Thanks for the comment. It's been a crazy and busy year for us. Family first, of course, but work unexpectedly got in the way of riding and making videos.
I like your saddle bags. I use a Ridgid box for my top box and can strap my soft bag on top. Or I can double up my boxes and they lock together nicely.
Love my ‘23 KLR Adventure. Instead of farkle, I went with performance and durability...flush-mount, magnetic drain plug, skid plate, upper crash bars, wider footpegs, Bark Busters. She’s a tank now. And NOW I can start with farkle...or use that money for BDR trips.
This might be my first bike in 20 years. Im a bit worried about the weight and height of it. I'm 5'11" and 185lbs. I've only rode dirt bikes and 4 wheelers, but need something that can do highway speeds well because im about 45 mins from the mountains, yet go on dirt and gravel roads for camping. Love to watch your channel. Stay safe.
We are pleased that you enjoy the channel. Might we suggest visiting a dealership to see if the S-model is a better height for you? We also grew up riding dirt bikes, and the weight difference is there, especially in sand and mud, but duel sport riding is different than trail riding and mx.
ONE of the major benefits of KLR ownership is the bike is cheap enough to leave some money in the bike budget for mods AND the farkles tailor the bike to YOUR needs AND there are literally dump truck loads of after-market goodies available.
I love that color, but would be happy with the orange/yellow one too. I had two drifter 1500’s, (ironically the only bike I’ve bought twice besides 2nd gen KLR-650’s 😂😂😂) and I loved the ride and power on them. Idk of the mean streaks gearing, but both 4th and 5th were overdrive on the drifter. Super relaxed ride. I love Kawasaki cruisers of that genre.
I've dreamed of a KLR650 for 20 years and finally got one to replace the Himalayan I've been riding for about 4 years. It's a 2022 Adventure model and I love it. It's just past 700 miles and I did the first service today. I've replaced the foot pegs. I lengthened the shift lever. I put a HF hard case on the back platform. I put yellow film over the auxiliary lights. Put a mount on it for a cheap Garmin. I've ridden mostly on the road, but my son and I rode some trails last weekend. I love this thing. I rode the Himalayan on a 1600 mile trip a couple summers ago, and i can't wait to see how the KLR performs on a similar trip this summer.
Bear is 6'2" and 300+ lbs. Tummy is 6' and 265 lbs. With the preload set to max on the rear suspension, we can pack on 60 lbs of gear and ride pavement and dirt roads perfectly.
Thanks for the video and ideas! I watched the video with Tummy's setup a couple of weeks ago as well. I like the minimalist and unobtrusive luggage rack that Kawasaki offers making this a great setup. I do wish that 3D would offer just the brackets without the plate, as mounting the brackets direct to the case would save weight. I'll have to email 3D with that suggestion.
Do you have any other mounting ideas I can look up for these cases that are some what quick release? I have a gen 1. I’m a newbie to all this and don’t have a milking machine to make those brackets. Your set up is awesome!!! I really really want to go this route the mounting options are kinda what’s slowing me down. I’m going to pick up the cases this week. Thank you for the idea.
Welcome, bud! You’d still want some sort of pannier system. Once you determine the pipe diameter, you should be able to find hardware to fits to attach to the case directly, or attach it to a heavy duty plastic cutting board then mount your box onto the case.
I have not. I'd recommend making sure the sensor ring is clean and undamaged. If that isn't it, check the fuses (there are two ABS fuses). Beyond that, I'd be contacting my dealership. I hope this helps.
Excellent Idea for repurposing those Rigid Cases. Any chance of seeing how you setup up or what you used as the pannier brackets? Thank YOU...Ride-on. JB
At 2:02, I cover that they are aluminum stock milled out with a 3/4" end mill, then drilled and tapped. The aluminum stock was 3/4" × 1 1/2. I cut the individual brackets into 2 1/2".
To address the thumping handle you could wrap a fair amount of cordage from one handle around the back to the other handle. It would stop the thumping and give you quick access to extra cordage (a lot!) without taking up any space inside the panniers.
For those of us that don't have a mill; I've repurposed Amazon handle bar mounts for similar projects. Look around for whatever they sell for mounting things to your bars and you'll find something that could easily be adapted to projects like this. Upgrade the hardware to good stainless from your local hardware store. I don't trust the threads to hold much so I through drill and use backing nuts Get creative and you can do a lot of things with basic hand tools, don't let a lack of expensive equipment hold you back
Thanks for the shout out guys, sounds like you two have some pretty awesome mods. I know AtoZ will appreciate the shout outs as well. Good times. I love the solo camping, that will be fun. 90% of mine is solo camping and I still have fun. I am glad yall were able to get out and make your first camping trip. I will check him out. Keep up the fun videos, Dale
