I've seen them together 3 times, the first was just two guys in chairs swapping songs, but last night at the Kessler was nothing short of incredible. Dave's guitar was absolutely incendiary, the entire band was amazing, and it was simply a great, great concert. Best one yet, in my opinion. x
omg, i can’t believe your music has escaped me until today when someone posted a cover of one of your songs. What a voice! wish you would sing one of my songs - boy, that would be something
I saw you In Chico CA a few nites ago, just magnificent folks! This tune especially I just cannot get out of my head. Bravo! Long may you ride that train...
Dave Alvin (deeply underrated) did a great job here. This versione in simply outstanding: it's flaming and powerful, rocky and steep; it shoot you up in the sky
I love these guys! I've known Jimmie for about 25 years (plus Janet--awesome woman & Buddhist teacher), then met Dave at one of their performances in Berkeley...Oh wow. --Apart from being creative/talented performers, songwriters, Jimmie & Dave are down-home philosophers and good-hearted men.-- Their July 17 performance in Chico, CA is sold out. Try to catch them next time---I'm prayin' they're still here.
This is the first song I'm aware of that mentions my old home town (at least for 6 years), Downey. (I think Lubbock might be mentioned in a few songs by the Flatlanders guys.) I went to Downey High, whereas the Alvin brothers went to our crosstown rival, Warren, but I was a few years ahead of them anyway. On the other hand, I was in the same grade level as Karen Carpenter, although I didn't know her. She was in the marching band. I was on the drill team.
I should be at Rancho Nicasio right now watching these guys, but I had to pass. It's 112F degrees, and fires have been breaking out all over California. I was afraid to leave my home and belongings to drive 4 hours across the state. It's been 5 years since I last saw them, but I guess I'll have to wait a little longer. Sniff.
Y'all need to research these guys, you would be amazed at the folks ,artists, venues, etc they been through. Starting off as a neighborhood garage to this. I've heard Phil has had health problems, let us pray for is recovery. These guys are awesome

Thanks for your post. I’m 76, and I know how you feel. I saw Brownie and Sonny, Bukka White and Muddy. Spent evenings drinking with Jerry Jeff Walker and Rory Gallagher. Learned how to play from records by John Hammond and Bert Jansch. Half a dozen Canned Heat shows, including the John Lee Hooker tour. Fifty years from now will people say “Remember Tay Tay’s Eras tour?” Nope.
before the highway network and before mass car travel, if you wanted to go from New York to LA you took the Twenty Century Limited to Chicago then switched and got on the Southwest Chief to Union Station in LA. also Rancho Cucamonga got famous because it was a stop on the Chief on the outskirts of LA county, the penultimate stop was Pasadena.
We’re still here too y’all keep em coming , I’ve had the pleasure of meeting both of you guys , two very humble talented human beings , I try my best to spread y’all music around , good stuff
