This is one of the best covers of a Dylan song I've ever heard and I must confess I've been listening to Dylan for the better part of the last 50 years. Thank you so much for doing this one, Dave.

Been a faithful fan of Johnny's Winter's version of this for as long as it's been out. A couple of weeks ago, You Tube's algorithm spit this in my path. This is now front and center. I can't stop listening to it.
Dave Alvin (deeply underrated) did a great job here. This versione in simply outstanding: it's flaming and powerful, rocky and steep; it shoot you up in the sky
I grew up near US Route (Hwy) 61 in Arkansas. It begins in Minnesota and follows the Mississippi River South on its West side down through my hometown in Northeast Arkansas. It then crosses over to the East side of the river at Memphis, TN. It becomes the Blues Highway as it travels South through the Mississippi Delta and ends in New Orleans, LA. It was a heavily traveled main artery in the middle of the country until the late 1960s when Interstate 55 replaced it as the main route from the North to the South in the Midwest. I was raised on many stories about the infamous Highway 61 and Dylan immortalized it in this song.
Dave Alvin can do no musical wrong! I’ve heard this version before and it is a great take on Dylan’s classic. The video syncs the story perfectly as well. Rock on Dave. Think I’ll go back the the Ashgrove now

@@davealvinofficial No worries Dave.. I sussed that one out.. knew it wasn't you; hence my reply..I genuinely do think it is the best cover.. I have heard many covers and the majority keep within the Dylan track.. Johnny Winters is great, but you put your own slant on it which makes it unique
An incredible piece of art. Dave Alvin's brilliant talent, playing one of Dylan's best about a topic close to many of us topped with this video. It's equal parts nostalgia for the 50's, searing images that punch home the song : An homage to Stevie Ray, to Dylan but most of all the man himself. I too can't stop listening to this.

The bass and drums propel the guitar and vocals into a rhythm and groove that settles deep, deep down. This song is felt and experienced in your gut. It is like a roller coaster that excites and scares, and it leaves you wanting more.

I am a long time fan of Dave’s music. LONG TIME!!! This came out originally on a MOJO magazine sampler. I hate to say it, but this cover does nothing for me. I wanted to love it. Figured it would be a natural fit. But it never moved me. Can’t wait to see you on the road!
First released on the LP version of "Ashgrove". That album kicks such amounts of butt, that it got kinda lost on side four. Glad to get a second taste. Yep Roc offering free world wide shipping on this pre-order is one classy gesture.
Great storytelling, putting the words up front with such clarity; Dave chooses wisely, making it the "Talkin' Abraham's Sacrifice Blues." And the video is pure biblical noir. I kind of love it.

I never much cared for this song until Dave Alvin found its true meaning and brought it to us in this recording. Complete respect. Love the new video. Good luck with the new album.

Originally Bob Dylan, done well by Johnny Winter and Dave Alvin's version is great too. A great composition done by talented musicians. I really like Dave Alvin.

Depends on your personal taste man. But yeah, you're right, JW was the best by far, not that this isn't super cool, no one beats JW on hwy 61, we all know where to find him too..

@@frankp.7768 ok well can convince people. People believe what they believe, but trump at the least gave the virus a big boost by downplaying it. I shouldn't have goaded you. Here isn't the place to argue about this and we should really just get together and solve the problem instead of pointing fingers. Had he not been so ungenerous with China I probably wouldn't have started calling it Trump virus. Let the healing begin because either one of us could die of this. Dieu dit à Abraham : t'as un fils à sacrifier Abe dit : mec, tu me fais marcher ?
This "Highway 61" cover is total garbage. It is completely uninspiring and really anyone could have done it. Alvin is creatively bankrupt and nothing proves it as convincingly as this waste of vinyl. It's a total joke.
