Great video! Ka had alot more features than I realised. Ford was on a peak in the 90s with both great and quirky cars in their lineup. Sporty Escorts, Probe, Puma, Cougar, Ka, Scorpio Cosworth and many more.
My dad worked for GM and I remember as a kid in the 70's while visiting my Grandmother on Easter Sunday as we walked down an alley near Lonyo and I-94 some guy pulling up and starting to take shots at my cousins and I for no reason. Yeah...as a kid I was surprised at how fast you could run around the corner in what were plastic looking dress shoes. Used to love the barbecue cook competitions down by Hart Plaza and the aquarium at Belle Isle and the free concerts at Hart Plaza. I remember my friend smoking the tires on his 69 Le' Mans as we were crossing the bridge to Belle Isle and a cop spinning around to pull him over. We crossed the bridge and to the left seen a sea of black leather and chrome as a biker gang was having a massive summer party. We pulled into that group of bikers and slowly drove along giving them thumbs up for their bikes. They gave us 16 year old kids the nod of approval... the cop...well, he stopped..put his car into reverse and left the area. Too funny.
Sleek all around but, the rear of this Capri is barely an afterthought. Those tail lights look like Ford rummaged through the parts bin and just stuck them on.
Greatest success! Even Jim Clark with the Might of the Ford motor company and Lotus behind him, couldn't beat a car from down under with an obsolete production engine and a miniscule budget to the World title.
Lotus Cars, Jim Clark and Grahm Hill was a very strong team combination that year ...but somehow Dennis Hulme won the championship. Remember it like yesterday.
Totally new and different from 64 models and way better. Had both 64 and 65 Galaxies. The 64 was great, the 65 was almost light years ahead. Several hundred pounds lighter than 64' s. My favorite 65 that I owned was 4 door sedan, 352, automatic, PS,PB, A/C. Great car?
At 14 I took my driver's license test in my Dad's 1959 Consul MkII. Apparently the burly uniformed Texas trooper was impressed as I passed and got my license. In 1962 I'd inherit Dad's dove gray 4-door for my sophomore year of high school. Before long i had it painted Ford red, replaced the muffler with a glass pac and slapped on full wheel covers and painted on white side walls on the tires with a bottle of rubberized paint. Teenage boys are stupid....
The Ford engine that powered that Lotus 38 that Jim Clark drove to victory at Indy in 1965 was based on the Windsor V8. It was a 4.2-liter DOHC 32-valve, all-aluminum V8 with a Hillborn-derived fuel injection system that was heavily modified by Ford engineers.
