The official RU-vid channel for keyboardist Bronson Hoover. ++++++++++++++++++++++++ Check out my playlists to hear me with some wonderful artists like Scott Tournet, Bobby Thompson, Gabe Stillman, and Burt the Dirt.
Our keyboardist just got a brand spanking new Nord SP4. There are several songs with sound effects that we use (dockside sounds for the song Sea Cruise, the warble in Fastball's The Way, street sounds for Summer in the City, etc.) I created the WAV files for some of these and passed them along to the keyboardist. He's not clear on how to import those sounds and how to set them up to be ready to be played in a Live performance. Do you think that is something you could review as a (fairly) Quick Tip?
Hey Robert - thanks for reaching out. That's actually pretty easy to do using the Nord Sample editor. One of the reasons I wanted this board was to add samples for the rock group I'm with so I've done exactly what you guys are doing a number of times. I've been really swamped lately, but I'll try to record a quick down and dirty video for you two in the next week or so.
How does the piano action feel for the organs? Do you wish it was lighter with a waterfall action, or do you think the action is great for the synth, piano and organs?
Hey Brandon - if you're used to a real organ feel than this will be weird for you. I stack the E6D with waterfall keys on top for my organ stuff. If the organ parts are secondary it totally does the job. I need both boards for most of my work, but whenever I can get away with one board the Stage 4 is the best option I've ever had. And the synth engine is really powerful for how simple it is. Good luck!
I remember exactly the moment I open the box of my stage 2 compact in 2014. I was in awwww! Never did I see a more beautiful piece, incredible build and materials, and hope these keys will always look like this. I sat in cockpit of many airplanes, and this was a panel like no other. Captivating and motivating, I’m 10+ years with 2 & 3 compacts. Just ordered the stage 4 HA 73, due to arrive the day after tomorrow. I hope it brings me such joy. Best wishes.
Love your tutorials. I tried the copy/paste, but it will copy but will not paste. When pasting to the selected, empty program of my choice, it goes to what ever the sub button is for example shift + paste + whatever program button I selected that corresponds to that program button 5 but it will give me the output information, but will not paste to G15. I hope that makes sense
The next time I shoot videos I'll make sure to talk about the arpeggiator. I haven't used it in a real-world situation yet, but I stayed up really late one night and got super trippy with it. It's pretty fun. Press all the buttons man! You'll dig into it quickly.
@@BronsonHoover If you are new to Nord, like me, and download lots of "shared" programs, like me (because you don't understand how to, or have the time to, create them, and are happy to pay $200 for 200 brilliant reproductions/ fellow players shared programmes) you run out of memory after two weeks ! Then nord launch a couple of new programs (Stockholm, soft Piano already) ... and you end up deleting so many programs to make space. Then the "preset" programs start to fail - because they use them. Then your bought programmes fail as they use older Rhodes etc. Early on is very difficult to know exactly what to delete to create space, let alone fix the issues that creates. Truly an astonishing failure of an otherwise superb instrument.
Wowwww! This is so funny. I just did a search for "Nord Stage 4 88 unboxing" and your video populated. Shockingly you picked it up from Chuck's. I'm going in the morning to pick mine up FROM CHUCK'S!!! 🤯🤯🤯 Mile's will be the sales person I talk to. Wow, small world and small internet world as well I guess.😁
From memory mono almost sounds very single channel based where as stereo has alot more clarity and is split evenly. It almost seems like like mononis a single channnel split forcefully. Which doesnt sound great. But lord and behold for some things people actually prefer mono
I still prefer mono in mid-sized/large venues for the front of house. However, I have to admit I had no idea how much better the piano sounds in stereo. I loved it in mono. I'm over the moon in stereo. I'm feeling very spoiled now.
@BronsonHoover my piano has mono/stereo outputs and that where I first noticed the difference. I guess as tech progresses some audio channels for specific products change dramatically
Thanks for making this video! I personally love to use the White Grand as well with a little bit of dynamic comp, since it just cuts better through the mix.
Yea man! I used the bright setting on the White Piano for my gig last night, and it was actually too bright! In April I'm playing a show at a really nice looking venue, so I'll try to make another set-up video in a real world environment. Thanks for checking in man!
@@BronsonHooveroh no good. I have seen some people whining about the build quality. Now, it takes very few people to make a lot of noise but for a keyboard in that price range it must be 10/10.
Oh yea - I completely forgot to finish that story. I called the sales guy at my local store where I bought it, and he called Nord. They told him to give me a new one and send them the broken one. No arguments at all. Yes - I still love it. I played it through my new stereo monitors tonight for the first time and it was heaven.
I was playing my old triton and I just stopped after 3 minutes and said it’s time for a new board! I’m not a keyboard player but I need some inspiration for new songs. Dude good demo but even better playing ! I’ll admit I pre judged you . BOY WAS I WRONG! Go Ahead Mr. Hoover…You got chops!
Tips Best to have either the compressor button OR the same sound on a second parallel layer (thus increasing volume) on the Layer II button, accessed during the solo by the footswitch pedal.
I hear you - but I would argue that it contributed to a fun show for the audience. We were just having fun and Deanna can put her boots on my gear anytime.
Thanks a lot for the quick tips, I really appreciate the videos on the Stage 4. One quick question: Is your Stage 4 producing a silent but constant humming noise when turned on, probably coming from the power supply? Mine does it and I’m curious whether this is normal or not. Thanks a lot 😊
I use the K&M 18820 Omega Pro Table Stand. I abhor X-stands because they feel too wobbly. This table stand is a beast. chucklevins.com/products/k-m-18820-omega-pro-table-style-keyboard-stand
Love the immediacy and capabilities of the Nord Stage 4 but for the price and the fact that it was released in 2023 with no built-in audio interface is a joke…
Since I don't play out anymore, I went with the Montage M8x. It's a beast and I would not attempt to move it on a regular basis. If I were still playing live gigs, the Nord Stage 4 would be on my short list.
