If you still have the muffler, have you tried replacing the pipe inside with a erforated straight pipe and added fiber baffle? This will yield 2 45° bends internal for a total of 90° within. Couple that with most people's single 90° exiting the unit, and that stays below the 270° max. I'm thinking of trying this myself, and if it works, would yield the best results and silencing for most.

@cfon159 hello. Thanks forcyour thoughts. I ended up replacing this with the original Chinese heater silencer which cured the problem. I like your idea though and might modify it as you suggest as it currently sitting in a spares box gathering dust.

Appreciate the video. I’ve been using both genuine and Chinese diesel heaters for ten years now. Both work perfectly, but one a a whole lot cheaper than the other. My OEM gasket set cost the same as a new Chinese heater here in NZ. As a retired engineer, I’ve just ordered the muffler you have replaced, that caused your issues. Can I ask, how long was your exhaust and about how many degree bends you had in it. From my research, the ripple tubing that they supply for exhaust tubing does have a minor effect on muffling noise, but it also restricts the flow of gases to a minor extent. Add a few 90 degree bends, and you have a recipe to increase back pressure? Thank you for your thoughts on this for me and others researching this subject.
@royclark8385
@royclark8385 7 дней назад
Hello. I'm glad my video proved interesting. My set up is a eberspacher airtronic d2 fitted in my campervan, the exhaust is about 80cm long with one 90 degree bend directly below the exhaust port, allowing it to angle itself down the chassis, it is then sloped gentle downwards to prevent any water trapment. The exhaust is an original Ebespacher exhaust which is thicker and has smoother ripples than the Chinese alternative. As mention I removed the upgraded exhaust and replaced it with the original chinese exhaust as eberspacher dont often come with a muffler, and it appears to work fine now. I have yet to service it though so cannot comment on possible coke buildup inside the unit, but I can confirm it runs very efficiently having checked with a co2 meter. Hope that helps.

How many hours did you run the heater with this muffler? I installed it as well (before I saw your video) and even though I have used the heater only four a short period of time (less than 50 hours) over the last year or so, it stopped working. I took it apart and it was full of soot. Literally. the exhaust opening on the bottom had like an 8mm opening left in it, the rest was filled with soot. I opened it up and cleaned it and it works again. When I was testing it, I noticed some black smoke from the exhaust. I went into the hidden menu to change the air/fuel ratio (more air, less fuel) and now it is ok. I hope it will not soot up as quickly as before. So I was wondering if this might have something to do with the extra muffler (and a piece of extra exhaust pipe). Maybe it causes some extra resistance that might cause the heater to suck in less air (what goes in must come out after all). I am not sure, I haven't tested it without the muffler, it's just a theory. I am curious about your experience with it. BTW, I'm in the Netherlands BTW, so It's not an elevation issue :)

@alexbik hello. Thanks for visiting my channel. I was initially impressed with the silencer, following this test, although it was only a test so was not run for very long. I did however fit the silencer to my van, where I have a erbespatcher d2 fitted and within 30 minutes, once the van got to the required temperature and clicked into minimum setting, it would flame out, ie turn the heater off, and keep trying to restart it. As soon as I removed the silencer and reinstalled the original one (same as cheap Chinese type) my problem went away and has never returned. So I can definitely say from experience they do restrict emissions venting, hence your build up.
@royclark8385
@royclark8385 29 дней назад
@alexbik I also have a 5kw heater installed in my house, running with the cheap silencer, I ran it all through the winter, on kerosene. Just yesterday I stripped it down to service it for this coming winter and it was completely clean inside, no soot build up at all. So I can recommend kerosene and the cheap silencer if you wish to avoid carbon/soot build up. I have uploaded some videos showing my installs. Hope this helps answer your questions

@alexbik I have played around with my settings reducing such as you have, but i discovered it was not reaching maximum temperature so ended up reverting close to the original settings. @@royclark8385 The thing is, I have a propane heater in my RV as well (a Truma combined water/air heater) that I run off an LPG tank. In installed the diesel heater because you can not buy LPG everywhere, especially not in northern Sweden and Finland. So I really like to run it on diesel, since I have a 200L fuel tank and I can buy diesel fuel anywhere. I'll see how it goes with the new settings.I could also try to restrict the heated airflow a bit to increase the temperature.

You have a low height van so you can not be very choosy about the shower. The problem with that system is that you have to be very very careful when taking the shower, otherwise you will have water all over. That is more of a mini bathtub than a shower. Hello. Yes it was added to help register as a campervan, I did hear about the poptop not helping my cause although I know of a few new vehicles which are exactly the same as mine but are registered as campervans, ie ford nugget, vw california. I am awaiting the letter from the dvla confirming its new identity, which I suspect will be "van with windows". If this is the case I will seek clarification as from what I can ascertain from mine and the nugget is mine does not have an awning rail fixed onto the side such as the fiamma awning rail.

Hello again. I recieved my response from the dvla, its been reclassified as "van with windows" and the seating capacity has been changed to 5, which is important for insurance purposes. Hello. I can appreciate your dilemma, I drilled initially a 80mm hole into my wall, which I am glad I did as a 75mm would have made pulling the 75mm pipe through very difficult. I did initially buy the cheap one from ebay, which melted.. so bought a 75mm one online, but as you say it requires a 90mm hole to fit flush against the wall. I did not want to drill a bigger hole so, whilst mine fits the heating pipe snug it does protrude off the wall by about 1cm, which when looking directly on is not noticeable but is when looking from above.

I agree, as many have said, as a sound suppressor it works very well, but its not perfect as with my erberspatcher it caused a male function.

Hi great camper job, how did you fit that 12 v socket in the rear? Was the cable connector already there? L

Hi thanks for viewing and commenting on my video. Which socket are you referring two. The two on the outside? One is foe delivery of 12v from the solar panel and the other is for 230v into the van. Both I had to feed the cable my self. If you mean the one in the rear door pillar, that loom was already installed from factory. If I recall it was either a yellow/orange plug coming from the light loom.

Hello. Thanks for your comment. You can run the air intake from inside the building, I do in my garage set up, but two things you want to consider, 1 that if you get a blow back inside the burn chamber (its rare but can happen) the combustion (smoke) will often exit via the air intake, so you will have a room smelling of diesel and full of smoke, 2nd the process of combustion works more efficiently with higher humidity (damp air), whereas the air indoors does not contain the same humidity and is often dryer. If possible I would recommend having the air intake outside.

Hi Roy I know this is not on topic for this video but I was wondering about the cargo lights you fitted a switch to does this make them be able to switched on/off whenever you need them Thanks Richie

Hello. Yes that's exactly what I can now do, being on for 10 minutes every time I open the door was really effecting my battery, as during the build the van was not being started much. Now I can control the light. However the switch is only operative during that 10 minutes the van ecu delivers power to the switch, it will not turn the light on as and when I require light outside that first 10 minutes.

Hello. Thanks for viewing and kind comment on our build. I bought it for eBay.. Striped Vinyl Flooring Roll Bamboo Style Wood Planks Foam Sheet Lino Bathroom Item number 123213907365 We are really pleased with it as we installed a bamboo worktop and table. It appears to wear well too, although as it is foam backed, anything pressed into it (like a screw) will leave a mark.
