I’m working on a Scotty Cameron TE I3 right now. I think the body is made of carbon steel, and has a black oxide finish. I want to remove the finish it has now so I can torch finish it, but I’m not sure how to remove the finish. Should I try bathing it in an acid.
@BradMeehan
@BradMeehan 3 дня назад
You can just use the muriatic acid or Whinks rust removal. Check out my 'how to make a club black' video. Black oxide is just rust. You could even sand it off.

One more question sorry. I just bought sulfuric acid. Can I soak my clubs in it to remove the rest of the nickel? Will it remove the chrome underneath of it? Someone did a half ass job don’t sand and just through nickel over the top. The clubs I’m doing are from 1961 Ben hogans

If I don’t have what you suggested to remove the nickel stripper all I can do is sand? THANK YOU and i APPRECIATE the fuck out of you and your videos. I have BAD SEIZURES and I restore clubs now and ENJOY it golf is my PASSION. Any more advice will be MUCH appreciated. Can I blast it and get the nickel off?
@BradMeehan
@BradMeehan 4 дня назад
@@StevenCampbell-ci8rdI appreciate you too! I've tried blasting, but it never really gets it all. Sanding would work if you don't want to use the nickel stripper. You can test to see if it's removed by soaking your club in vinegar to and see the parts that don't turn dark like I did in that video.

Awesome, I’ll have to try this out! I bought myself a nice set of mizunos about a year ago, but I foolishly let my 2 brothers use them throughout this summer because they don’t have clubs of their own and really wanted to get into golf. The clubs are pretty beat up to say the least but I should have expected it… I literally watched one of them take a full practice swing inside the house on tile floor, and yes it scratched right against it. It hurt my soul. Not to mention the various times I’ve seen them just drag it along the cart path or concrete sidewalk. Safe to say that after I polish these bad boys up, they are BANNED from touching my clubs. Matter fact I don’t even want them going near my clubs at all😂. Guess that means I’m gonna have to hide them.

📍Decent setup tips! My only constructive criticism is “Once you submerge your part in the plating bath don’t TAKE IT OUT! You’ll find that on page 44 if you got the Caswell manual.😉 2nd is having a consistent temp of 135-140° for the Bright Nickel Solution while plating. [I didn’t notice a heater in the video or mention] 📍You did mention doing an “Electro-Clean” in your text, but didn’t mention the more important “Surface Activator” just before you drop the part in the Nickel Bath. It is very cheap way to be sure your part takes the Nickel! Lee
