This 1973 RAM Fastback pitching wedge had significant rock damage where I used a hammer to flatten it back into shape. Watch this relaxing golf club restoration as I turn this discarded club into a beautiful iron ready for the bag again. Hammer time!

I just wish it were this easy.... Inspired by your videos I've been trying to get the heads off some ancient slazengers I picked up.... they absolutely will not budge!!
@BradMeehan
@BradMeehan 7 месяцев назад
If they're not threaded, the shaft may be seized in the hosel which means it's hacksaw time.
@IamtheWV17
@IamtheWV17 7 месяцев назад
@BradMeehan really hoping not.... they were freebies, and I absolutely could not afford to buy a full set of shafts. I've only been using a small butane torch... but I figured that smoking and bubbling were a good indicator that they were getting hot enough.

Hey Brad, fantastic video as usual! thanks for your videos and tutorials. i've been following you religiously for a good 3 months now and i have found a new found hobby/interest in polishing thanks to you; since especially ive been going on a thrift hunt for golf clubs to finally have my own set instead of a hand me down by my dad. and now i've gotten wayyy too many golf clubs that i can use for myself so i've decided to start polishing and selling them on the side. i think most of the steps you have shown to polish but i have a question about deep scratches 1. how do you get rid of deep scratches that just dont seem to go away at all?

Very nice! One thing I have always been curious about when I see something like this. The grinder, hammer, repaint, etc. Does anyone take them out after? I am very curious if you could tell the difference? Does someone say, this feels lighter or slightly off? Again, this is just out of curiosity, and knowing the golf community everyone will just go out and buy the latest. I think this a general community question. Again, another great video.

Brad. Beautiful work - I have learned a ton from you. I am starting work on a set of 99 Apex Plus. The bag chatter and nicks were pretty bad and they needed quite a bit of love. I have the three iron cleaned up but there are spots where the chrome has been sanded through to the nickel and other places where chrome remains. As I'm new to this, when I go to re-chrome the clubs will this make a difference and be visible? Should I try to get them all down to the nickel? Any advice would be helpful. Thx

That’s really terrific! I started buying items and began my journey but I still have so much to learn and explore! Videos like this encourage and motivate me! I had the same lingering question about the shock hazard! Thank you for finding an answer. I might stand on a rubber mat anyway but at least I will know I don’t have to! Lol
@BradMeehan
@BradMeehan 7 месяцев назад
We're using VERY low voltage - less than (or about the same as a little 9 volt battery). The low voltage and low current takes the path of least resistance, which is directly back through the negative wire that's connected to the club. And, you're grounded.
@BluecordedPoet
@BluecordedPoet 7 месяцев назад
@BradMeehan awesome, thanks. One last question: Sorry to bother, how often do you need to replace your scotchbrite medium belt? I'm about 5 club heads in, and it's going well, but it seems to be taking more and more work. Again, sorry to bother you. I'm absolutely addicted to restoring old clubs now.
@BradMeehan
@BradMeehan 7 месяцев назад
I've only replaced them once in the past 3 years. They do lose their abrasion, but I feel I have more control over how much metal gets removed. It takes longer, but my tolerance for screwing it up is reduced.@@BluecordedPoet
@kenjones480
@kenjones480 8 месяцев назад
Great job! It looks to me like You changed it up a little bit by going to the fine belt instead of the sisal wheel, and stoped polishing at the medium wheel with brown polish. Was this a time thing or does the fine belt eliminate the need for much of the buffing on the buffing wheel? I’m a big fan of reducing steps if the final product comes out the same.
@BradMeehan
@BradMeehan 7 месяцев назад
I did a bit of sanding with 600 on a few spots, but cut it out of the video because the pace of the video changed. Going from brown to white gives you a HUGE visual difference, in my opinion. So, if you're chasing every scratch, I'd keep that step in.

Hey Brad thanks for the videos and tutorials, much appreciated With carbon steel chromed forged clubs - do you use the scotch brite belt to take off the original chrome plating and we are just left with the original nickel layer before using nickel plating solution? is it ok if it is a bit patchy (if the majority of the club is grinded down to the original nickel but still has a few old brushed out chrome patches here and there? Is the Caswell degreaser ok to use for cleaning before the solution? Is a Crock pot ok, does it get enough heat for the nickel solution or is a electric stove with ceramic pots better? Thanks a lot again - have good day

Brad, I truly enjoy your channel. I’ve been watching you for six months now and I started polishing golf clubs about two months ago. They don’t turn out quite as nice as yours but in time they will I have a question I have a set of clubs about 12 or 13 years old Callaway razor tours and I believe originally they had a satin matte finish. When I polish them, they’re going to be near bright and shiny. not as the original satin finish is this OK?
@BradMeehan
@BradMeehan 5 месяцев назад
Thank you. Yes, just polish them as normal and they will be shiny. But the key is, you use the media blaster when you're done polishing it to make the shiny finish matte/satin. I turn my psi down to about 40 and take slow passes. I'm editing a video now on how to do it. I'll get my butt into gear and finish it for you.

Do I need to do the nickel plating part? Will it make the club feel different?
@BradMeehan
@BradMeehan 3 месяца назад
If you expose any bare steel, it will eventually rust. This only applies to carbon steel clubs. Modern cast clubs that don't rust don't need any of this. Just polish, and you're done.

This may be a dumb question but instead of a scotch brite belt can a sand paper belt work? Thanks!
@BradMeehan
@BradMeehan 6 месяцев назад
Of course. It just removes so much metal so fast that it's hard to control for me. Most of the success will be with hand sanding anyway. The belts are just as a first pass for me.

I understand. I have a few experimental clubs and I attempted 120 grit belt sander and it was definitely a little much. Came out kind of uneven as well. Ya, I ordered the scotch brites (medium and fine). Thanks for the feedback.@@BradMeehan
