Dimash is using Flageolet ALL THE TIME. This student came to me through Dimash. Afterwards (not in the video) he sang repertoire of Dimash. Yeah, I'm using Dimash' name to get like... some 2OOO clicks... which will make me rich of course. To answer your question shortly: No :)
Yes, if I would invest severe training in whistle, I could be able to integrate it in songs. But you know my opinion about this "register". Maybe, when I finally can jump up as a "dear" (you know), the E6 in flageolet , THEN the time is maybe right for it. For now, I want people to know that it's a trick. A trick can still be entertaining though? ❤
Of course, I listened to the song and you can already hear @ around 0:49 that Maria Callas is using flageolet to mix with head voice to make the sound more controlled, decrescendo it and add musical variations. I dare to state after studying about Flageolet for 4 years now, that without Flageolet, pichtes from G5 and further dare to create tension. You need to let the vocal chords vibrate at such a short length , with the right amount of airflow. This counts for both female and male singers. Always keep on singing! Christof - Vocal coach
@@erenjaeger9348 Yes! Yes! and Yes! :D There's something in the world of singing that's called "muscle memory", in other words, once you gained full controle over the balance flageolet/head voice ,you can just chose to make notes big, tiny, with / without vibrato etc... Of course, I'm not a countertenor, and Maria Calllas.... I mean... you don't even start at trying to compare anyone to her. But I could practically sing every note of that song, small, big, vibrato, no vibrato etc.... I think, if you have more specific questions. I always offer a free of charge in-take Videocall (Zoom/Skye) (just once .... haha).Maybe I can show you a bit more in detail, because this is becoming textwise a bit difficult to explain. Of course, no further obligations to take any paid lesson. Christof
So glad to see this thoughtful presentation from a fantastic vocal coach. I am sure it will be a big help to me in tackling the next addition to my repertoire. Thank you!
Dear Mr Anonymous, This is a vocal exercise called flageolet, which means it is not in any case meant to be directly utilised in a performance, a song, etc... I don't know your intentions of posting this comment (maybe I'm taking it too serious, it's the latter:) so I want to avoid passive agressivism, but what is your point ? If you go to the gym and repeat a push up 12 times in a cyclus of three (36 times), and you go shower yourself afterwards (I hope not like a cat woke up, lickin every body part with his/her tongue), can you tell me what's the point of that ? (The objective of that is actually veeerryyyyy useful, but not immediant). Read yourself in more. This is a video about vocal pedagogy, not a cover or a "showoff". Spread some more love if this was negative critisism. If I didn't thoroughly see the "humour" enough in your comment, I want to apologise as well by the way! :D Christof Vocal Coach
The cat here. Thank you for watching and listening, and taking the time to make such helpful comments. Exercises are learning tools meant to help achieve skills rather than as some kind of beautiful end in themselves. Please understand that I was once at the chalk on the slate stage and am thrilled to have progressed in these EXERCISES to the realm of living creatures. Only a house cat now, but one day I hope to be a mountain lion, or even better, a pitch-perfect songbird, even if I'm then eaten by a hungry house cat. Beat wishes for finding more pleasant exercises in the future.
Thank you for being such a blessing to me and such a great friend to my wonderful coach! Christof is patient, yet persistent, and maintains high expectations while always offering encouragement. I'm thankful for you both.❤❤❤
The video was really funny! Great job! I think you did it about 3 tones lower than the original, but that is nothing to fuzz about. And what a nice compliment from Tony Waddington! Succes verder en groeten uit Nederland!
@@mauriceallen8496 Thankls for watching! If you've got the time, check out my whistle video's, which differs it from flageleott; while hitting a D8 in whistle is NOT eaaaasy to pull off.
Your voice is like a symphony of angels, gracing our ears with its heavenly tones. And your face? Simply a masterpiece! Truly, you are a gifted singer ❤.
Dear sir, I don't know where you live, but in Belgium my day just started and it's already made, thanks to your kind words. Thanks for yor time to listen and your comment. All the best! Christof
Nick Pitera was also my inspiration! A truly amazing singer. He's come a long way, too, since he sang A Whole New World. I love doing those one-person duets!
And definitely, he kept on growing and growing, despite the harsh "critique" (actually, just ... negativity, not even critique) and still to this day he shows off amazing vocal skills and stays humble. If you want to get good vibes, just play a video from his channel. Thanks for your reaction. Kind regards, Christof
Man, what a beautiful musical tribute. Your execution of a challenging song, made more difficult by doing it a capella, is impressive. I especially admire the perfectly placed breaks/cries and your perfectly coordinated flip up for the final "Hallelujah." Just perfect. Not many singers take time to acknowledge someone who influenced them by means of both spoken testimonial vocal tribute as you have here. Well done, and Bravo! P.S. Great thumbnail, too.
Thank you Robert! He deserves nothing less than this. A loooooot more actually. It was, like you said, a tribute. Do I like to sing myself ? Of course I do, and of course I wanted to pull it off at least kinda good. But this video is more a tribute to one of the most influencual RU-vid singers in my entire life... He was my "Dimash" in the 2007-2012 era haha. But I think, if it wasn't for Nick Pitera; I wouldn't even developed a head voice at all, so yeah... Apart from that, he gives me such good vibes, an awesome personality, and yet, he always stayed humble. I can't express my respect for people like Nick and Dimash, who, yet incredibly talented, always stay themselves. Did my ego wanted to deliver a decent version of "Hallelujah", hell yeah, I'm not gonna lie. But genuinely, this video is much more a tribute and a "Thank you",to Mr. Pitera; who mesmerized me since 2007 and so on. Thanks for listening Robert! :D
Please react to a Whitney Houston cover, sung live by Gabriel Henrique in a contest in Brazil. This video is amazing and little known, where in the saxophone solo you will rise to the sky. Highly recommended. Thanks and hugs. ALL THE MAN THAT I NEED ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8Bpm6hqoI-I.html
Dear Xander, It's been a while since I've done a reaction video, so ... maybe worth the challenge (for me of course, since I already know I will be blown away haha). Is it a recent performance ? Kind regards Christof
@@ChristofChapsis Dear Kristoff: It's from the year 2022, but he sings live and in the saxophone solo part that has this Whitney song that I love, I love it. I hope you can react to it. A hug.
7:40 That happens to me if I try to hit G5. Feels like I'm trying to swallow my own larynx! But I guess I've got the bottom end (down to around C2-ish). I already know that's a decent range, but I'm never satisfied with myself - why otherwise would I be here! But I still live in hope that someday I will find that elusive flageolet.
Dear singer, I tend more and more to believe that the "Flageolet-passagio" is around E5-G5 so I totally know what you mean. If you can vocalise till a C2, that means your vocal chords are very flexible. Flageolet is just very unknown territory that has to be discovered still by your vocal chords. This video could help you a lot as well!!!: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Xe43_gNR5-I.html And of course, as a vocal coach, I have to promote myself a bit haha. Always free to inform to take a lesson with me: christofchapsis@gmail.com. I do always a small intake session first (to talk about what you want to learn etc etc) free of charge. But if that's a bridge too far, all the respect. Check out my flageolet videos and you will get it one day! All the best, Christof
Amen. Well stated and explained. I think a lot of folks, including some vocal coaches, just label any high (connected) notes they haven't learned to hit as "whistle tones." Then everyone thinks, "I need to l learn to do whistle tones so I can sing better. " Hopefully, your video will help people get back on track to meaningful development of their singing voices. (BTW, my compliments to your housekeeper. Impeccably clean walls you have there. 😜)
Dear singer, Don't take this comment too harsh, that's just because it is typed text. You should pay A LOT of attention in this video between 1:00 - 3:00. And I mean REALLY A LOT. Of course you get higher by inhaled phonation. That's your whistle register and not your flageolet. Whistle register is much easier to find and on a lucky day you can get up to the 7th or 8th octave in it... but it's a waste of time in my opinion unless you gained controle over ALL other aspects of your vocal instrument and you don't know what else to train anymore (Joke Disclaimer: I think Dimash was already bored at his 17th or so about like every thinkable register so he could just play a bit with his whistle register, cause that was all that there was left for him already 😂) I would advise you to STOP for a while with that inhaled exercices and focus everyday on flageolet. I would love to sugarcoat my answer more but I just can't... This is the wall you keep on crashing on. But never lose the joy of singing. Never give up my friend! Christof

As so many have already said, EXCELLENT, CLEAR, and EFFICIENT explanation of a somewhat confusing subject that lots of vocal coaches don't seem to have a good grasp of. I thought I had watched this before, but I know I'd have remembered your great demonstrations and simply masterful use of Dimash clips to illustrate each category. Just brilliant, man. As a teacher myself, I couldn't be more impressed with this video. Bravo, and encode. Yet again, I'm reminded how blessed I am to have you as my vocal coach on my journey to loving and enjoying singing more and more. Thank you, @christofchapsis
