8:22 First off, great review of a very nicely put-together W-650. I recently picked up a 5,000 mile 2000 W650 here in the states that I’m going to do some customizing to. Question for you. I would like to change over my fenders (mud guards) and headlight can to black examples. Where again did you source the ones you have fitted to your bike please? I appreciate your help - Doug
Hi Doug the Fenders and the headlight bowl are from the later drum brake version of the W800, 2015 special edition I think. I know you didnt get that bike in the states so not much help. You could of course buy the headlight bowl from ebay and just swallow the import cost and get your current fenders blasted and powder coated black. Enjoy the bike & maybe I will do an update video soon as ive done a lot of different things to her now.
I've just bought a very nice w650 1999, been riding an 81 sr500 for 24 years, never driven a car, thought it's about time I had a 'new bike', just watched the vid and thought that level crossing looks familiar, my wife's sister lives in pendarves road, and you passed her house, nowt special about that, but i live in south staffs, around 295 miles away. Small world.
@@angof I owned a 1972 Yamaha XS650, it was a great bike and I wished I’d never sold her .. The W650 is a timeless classic, the perfect size bike for the type of riding I love .. So I’m saving up the cash for one ..!!

Excekent Idea... here in PT I usually try to motivate other Ws to come to DGR, but max number was 2.
Enjoyed that ! I was in the motorcycle trade as a mechanic from the early 70s to the late 80s. A Meriden Triumph/BSA man at heart. I worked at Paul Smart's Kawasaki Paddock Wood business in the 70s which was a Triumph dealer too. We had two W1s part exed during that period, which I fell in love with and had the use of one for a summer period, an up graded BSA A7/10 which didn't leak, no mechanical defects and reliable electrics. Looked great too. I'm now looking at W650s/W800s as they look and sound like late 60s Triumphs, more so than the Hinckley Bonnies I've owned. Great video. Thanks.
I just picked one up, Going to spend the winter here in Canada polishing and making her my own. I haven't driven it on the roads yet, so I can not wait for that!!!!
Hello. If you're still reading comments, ... what brand was/is your steering damper? I'm buying a W650 and wish to follow your setup. I'm in California.
Great review, and interesting to hear your thoughts on the W800; think I did right by getting the 650: I swapped my Royal Enfield Himalayan for one, and it was love at first sight by looks, and love at first mile when I rode it home. I actually like all the chrome, but I don't live on the coast, which I imagine rots the hell out of bikes if you use it all year round. All the best 🙂
Where did you get your rear number plate from....ive been looking online and most dont look very good. Cheers ps Im down near Fal and pick my w650 up in the next few days pps :] where did you get your motad from as I cant find an exhaust system to fit. I dont want to drill the baffles out if I dont have too because of the mot.
Hi David, numberplate is just an ebay jobby ebay username is tradeaplates14 . Im afraid the Motad zorst is a very rare beast. They only made a few before Motad went bust. there is a decent German supplier of exhausts but the price is eye watering, search for w650 shop on google, should be top of the list. Maybe also try Omega racing. Hit me up on the W650 facebook page when you get yours, be nice to have another rider local to me :)
Do you tend to use the kickstart all the time, as if she were a true 60's Brit..? That kickstart is what sets this beauty apart from the modern classics, as real men need to kick start their bikes, right?? :)
take those steering dampers off and get into the 100 m/hr tank slappers , make a great youtube video . Goodlookin bike mate nice ..regards MT01 rider from down under .
Angof...i love yer bike I have a w650..i would like to know the name of your bar mirrors or even a link to them n i like the fact buying Britsh...thanks John In Scotland
They only imported these to the U.S. 2000-2001. I found the more desirable ‘01 with 4,000miles on it only 45mins from my house. Very clean and never dropped for $4,800US. Can’t find them over here for 3,500£ but for just over £4k , not bad. Anyone have an opinion on that price? Thanks in advance.
Any vibration issues Angof ?, I’m getting some vibrations through the handlebars when opening her up. I’ve tried bar end weights which improved slightly.
Hi Mike, tbh I cant say that the vibrations thru the handlebars has ever bothered me. Certainly didnt cause me any issues on a trip this summer doing 300 mile days.
Check items such as the insulators on the muffler mount, also the front sprocket, when worn they cause a lot of vibration; ask me how I know of these things😆
Hi Matt, its a bit dauting trying to sort out all the footage but im breaking it up to chunks. Will try to get the Garbage run bit done before Christmas.
Rode down that road early September on my w650. Started out at St Agnes, coffee stop at Hells Mouth, then on through Hale, St Ives and stopped for lunch at St Just. You can tell the tourists the way they drive, they do not seem to be able to get right over to the left when vehicles approach from the other direction, at one point the bus was stuck for over 10 minutes while two cars in front of me tried to manoeuvre over to the left.
😄Some is looking for a W with low mileage to buy, and some is afraid of when problems may appear. Don't bother! My bike (registerred spring 2000) has made 278oookm now. Exept replace oil and filter regularly, spark plugs, chain and sprocket when needed and some other maintenance from time to time. What parts is replaced?: 3 sets of front brake pads, 3main bulbs and one cluthwire, thats it. Adjusted 3 valves up to 60k and no more since then, nothing else in engine is touched. Bike is like when it left factory except I drive on Bridgestone Batlax BT-45 and changed rear tire to 120/90, smother into curves and some higher speed through curves before muffler hits the tarmac. I live in Norway, 11 times I've been to W-meet (W-treffen) in Germany, and they say my bike is the quality reference in Europe!
@@angof You will love this meeting, its not like any other bike meet I`ve joined. Approx. 60-70 partissipants and you will be treated like a family member.
Nice bike.I have a 2001 green tank. Corbin seat and rack other than that bone stock. I love mine. Also bought a new rear fender because they crack. It’s not on yet. Keeper for sure!!
I’m just bought a mint w 650 .2005 , not had it yet , l was checking you vid on your extras , I would like to get the stainless motads you fitted , is it just the end cans you had , because I the Oem ones are all in one length from exhaust to end can I think . Also I think motad is no more. .?
Thanks for your info , with your full system is there a join from the silencer to exhaust. With clamp or welded . .?

I have been thinking of replacing my W650 with this one, but, like you, i feel it would be a little too much for me (maybe the z650 rs, but it seems real small and not so different from W. And w650 is just so cool, and spirited, that I cannot get myself to do it. Have this on my list because it is a 4 cyl, or a NineT because of the boxer. All other bikes are meh.
Nice vid sir, glad you got back in one piece. The Z doesn’t really stand a chance up against the W. Thanks for the company on the LEJOG trip. Ride safe.
Hey Matt, hope your well. Had some real good adventures on the way back. Im going to do a little preview vid before I start on the main trip vids so stay tuned. Ireland next year I rekon :)
