Hi Ralph great tutorials & info here, I just purchased the grey meanie waiting on its arrival, do you recommend using both left & right Audio outs or just use the left mono output? Thanks
Hello, this depends very much on what kind of mixing you perform in the 2600 final mixer. Bear in mind that on the 2600 you can use the left and right for mono output respectively. If you want to output a stereo reverb with the 2600 reverb section then you have to use both outputs. Kindly check out this tutorial here as well ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vQx88p4dutc.html Greetings, Ralph
@@RalphBaumgartl Thanks, I’m using a tascam model 24 mixer I have an eventide space on an aux channel 1 & boss re202 on aux channel 2 & wasn’t sure if I use both outputs from the 2600 to a stereo channel our just use the mono left channel to mono channel on the mixer to save channel space. Which do you think would be more practical. Many thanks
@spiral6488 Kindly watch the video that I mentioned in my last comment. This will clarify some of your questions. Think of the 2600 final mixer as a pre-mixer to your mixer. Please also note that I mean the 2600 final mixer when I mentioned final mixer in my last comment. Cheers, Ralph
Hi Ralph. I am one of your close followers. Got my two Behringer 2600s now. I will use one for bass and the other for Berlin school type arpeggios. A real analogue vintage tape echo will be out of my reach so I have to opt for a modern one. Can you guide me on which one to get specifically for Berlin School genre please? I am juggling on the Strymon Timeline or the El Capistan but if you know of another then I will always take your good advice. You have been doing this a long long time! Peter. Ps...I already have tge Walrus Slöer but do not know if it is suitable for Berlin School.
Hello Peter, I have been using the Strymon Timeline for a couple of years now and I am very happy with it. You can dive really deep into the presets and alter/adjust them. The Timeline has several delay algorithms including tape delay. If you are 100% sure that you only need the Tape Delay sound then the El Capistan might be the better choice for you. It's also a bit cheaper than the Timeline. But please bear in mind that I have never used the El Capistan by myself, thus I cannot give advise from my personal experience. You may also want to take a look at the Strymon Starlab. Greetings, Ralph
Ralph, I think you’re awesome and really enjoy your videos. I’m a beginner/intermediate eurorack module user and learn very valuable things from you. Thank you so much!!
Very good and pleasant reading starter guide, Ralph! Also compliments to Behringer for bringing this Legend to life again, with modern compatible electronics to the original ones. Of the original system very few are available, let alone fully working. Since Alan R. Pearlman designed some modules with a twist, your tutorial is more than welcome! What i especially like about the original / Behringer 2500 is that the modules were clearly designed by an engineer, which follows from the system design as well, with the matrix switches that are actually nothing more than a giant breadboard! I'll be starting with the 3 module system you suggest, intending to go on from there. I'm already enthusiastic brainstorming and starting a design for the matrix switches. These would of course be columns of radio buttons, not slider switched, that will light up when activated. And with a patch programmer included!
Hello and thank you for watching my 2500 Starter guide. Currently I am working on my 1050 Mix Sequencer video. It has been on my list for quite some time. Wishing you lots of fund with your 2500 modules! Cheers, Ralph
Thank you Ralph for all your 2600 videos. I am just starting out. I have managed to copy your huge " bass patch" but also added the ring modulator sliders botg fully up. It sounds fantastic. I need to understand the sample and hold function a bit more. I watch a number of your videos every single night before I go to sleep so that eventually something has to click. I also am reading a very good book about the ARP and all the theory. Its a massive book and I have to answer questions!!! Grhh Thanks again Ralph. You are a star.
Thank you Peter, you flatter me. I am glad that my videos have such a positive impact. Just consider my patches a starting point for your sound design journey. There's no right or wrong in modular synthesis. Anything goes...
@@RalphBaumgartl Lieber Ralph.
Hi Ralph and thanks for this. So the sample and hold takes a sample of a random part of an audio wave? , holds it for whatever period of time the slider is set to and then releases it to a given timing? Have I got this right? A bit like a capacitor charging and discharging?
That's correct! The noise generator is the default pre-wired setting. Just go wild and feed the S&H with all kind of sample sources and see what you come up with. Encountering and exploring the unexpected is part of the Modular Journey. Cheer, Ralph
Thank you for your kind words! I'm thrilled to hear that the video was exactly what you needed. Wishing you lots of fun with your B2600 Synth! Cheers, Ralph
At 17 years old I sold my polysix and Mono/Poly to buy Olin freestyle skis witn Scott boots. It was in the 70's. Still do music and ski here in Québec !! Take care sir.
Hello, I have a beginner question, I copied a patch from a Korg arp 2600m into the Arturia 2600 v3 vst and the sound is not even close, is this something common? How can I copy the same sound from the korg to the Arturia?
Try to move the slider position of the relevant modules. There's always a difference in sound between various 2600 versions/clones and between VST versions. The very same slider position on one 2600 Synth doesn't necessarily yield the same sound on another 2600 Synth/clone. Play around with the slider positions.
Ralph. I understand what ADSR does and how it functions but I have never seen a synth which also has AR like the B2600. Why is AR there in the first place? Is it need when there already is ADSR? Is it used in conjunction with the ADSR or by itself? I do not fully understand the concept of why it is there? Peter.
Hello Peter, the AR is actually an AS(Sustain as long as the key is pressed)R envelope. For certain patches this might be enough of an envelope that you need. Please note that on the 2600 Synth the prewired setting for the VCA envelopes is AR in linear mode and ADSR in exponential mode. You can combine them according to your sound design intentions. Cheers, Ralph
the diode over my power on switch is glowing yellow, not green. But so seem yours to be? i am using the correct power supply. is it supposed to be this way?
Your tutorials are very concise. You know what you are talking about with the experience behind it. I find your passion for teaching invaluable. The very best. Thank you Ralph.
Your appreciation means a lot to me. I'm grateful for your support and that you like my style of teaching. Thanks again for all your support! Cheers, Ralph
Hi Ralph. I am new to your channel but heck you are a nice bloke. You are too valuable to us in the synth world to do skiing. Its dangerous. My German Wife now deceased used to say Sport ist Mord!!! Just get well, play and teach us synths. I am partially deaf but hear every word you say. So clear and concise. I have just bought a Behringer 2600 and followed you video how to get a sound out of it. I wrote most of what you said down as the 74 year old memory needs jerking. When I eventually got that tremendous sound out of it I have decided now to have another one. This time the Blue Marvin with real spring reverb. It is the best synth I have ever had. Please do more videos on 2600 on patching and what happens when you connect what to what. Please? Keep on the mend dear man " und immer halt die Höeren steiff!" Sport ist Mord. Vergesse es!!!
Thank you so much for your kind words and! I'm glad you found my channel and find my tutorials helpful. Trust me, I have slowed down on my skiing and spend more time with my Synths now ;-) Wishing you lots of fun with your 2600 Synth. Greetings, Ralph
I was always an intermediate skier (though an expert water-skier), the day I thought I was an expert snow skier I ended up tearing my right knee ACL and had to be carted down the mountain on a snow-stretcher. Ended up having surgery to reconstruct it. That was the end of my skiing career, but at least I still have synthesizers (and a road bicycle)!. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
I suppose you were also waterskiing in the Pre-Wakeboard time ;-) Slalom, Trick and Jumping. Waterski Jumping is extremely wild! Did you do that as well? Greetings, Ralph
@@RalphBaumgartl Slalom skiing- starting in deep water from one ski! I grew up on the South Shore of Long Island, NY and skied Great South Bay. We used to jump the 2 meter wake of the ferries going across to Fire Island. Interesting thing- after I recovered from my knee surgery I wanted to ski once last time (so that the last time I ever skied wouldn't be on a stretcher) and stuck to beginner slopes for the morning. In the afternoon I decided I wanted to try snowboarding (which was relatively new then), my instructor told me it was just like slalom water-skiing as far as weight distribution. As soon as he told me that, I was an instant expert! But I decided not to push my luck, and that afternoon was my last on the slopes...
@@marzzz1 Slalom waterskiing was also my favorite Waterski discipline. And....I am also not pushing my luck with sports anymore. Just for fun and recreation 😃
What a combination, skiing and synthesizers. I only hope you were able to tend to the orthopedic issue, Ralph. A guy I play music with here in the US is also an avid skier, and he had to hang them up this season (which he wanted to be his skiing swan song) to undergo hip replacement. Too bad there are no longer glaciers on this part of North America (New York). I keep telling him that winter 2025 will be his final outing.
It's amazing how hobbies can intertwine with unexpected challenges. Sending good vibes to your friend for a smooth recovery! I am making daily progress, but nevertheless I am going to play it save in the future. No hard Mogul Skiing, just cruising on soft and easier slopes ;-) Cheers, Ralph
Good health to you, Ralph. Your videos are so easy to follow (as a synth newbie) but SO full of information. You, sir, are an educator of the highest order!
You're my favorite 2600 person, Ralph. You got me up and running to use it in production work and I'm forever grateful. Hoping and praying for the best for you always.
HEy Ralph! thanks for answering my questions during this time (ARP2600 and Analog SEq). I've been on a similar path, focused more on KiteBoarding 🏄♂ Muscles and skeleton has their own memory, so you'll be ok soon 👍 👍 👍, "motion is life; stillness... is not!" TRAIN HARD!!! About your entertainment during recovery, darn! 🎹 my own family will not see me for weeks when I get my TEO-5
Hello Marco, I have always been fascinated by Kiteboarding ever since I saw it on TV for the first time around 30 years ago. Guess it's too late now to start another dangerous sport 😉 Many thanks for stopping by! Cheers, Ralph
1:34 Those curtains! :O Just by seeing those I feel like I'm 6 or 7 years old again, haha. I can see why shows like Stranger Things are really popular. The 80's did sorta "shine" a bit more, right? Like people were more enthusiastic about everything. Today, being social/creative means: get your phone out, bury your head in there and everything's gonna be fine. I'm really considering buying one of those 3310 reissues and get rid of my iPhone. As sorta an experiment, I lived for a week without any social media a couple of months back and I felt alive again, like... being HERE. Don't know how to explain this, haha. :)
I don't keep all my stuff in the studio at the moment. I have another storage room where I keep the other gear. Gear is moving between my studio and the storage room according to my current needs....
Most of us fear the worst when uploading ends, and health is almost always the answer. Good to know you are improving instead of going the other direction. Look forward to more music soon. I understand completely, I am 66 years old, been playing keyboards for 56 years now and been involved in cycling, kayaking, hiking, cross country (Nordic) skate skiing, weight training for 56 years. A parallel life of music and fitness.
Yes, music and fitness is a wonderful combination! It has definitely saved me from some other stupidities which I might have done instead ;-) Cheers, Ralph
Sending you lots of positive vibes and wishing you a smooth and speedy recovery. Take care, and we look forward to seeing you back in youtube. Love From India.☺
Hi Ralph, we’re about the same age, and I relate to your story of decades of intense activity finally taking its toll, so I’m glad to hear you’re on the mend. You inspired me to purchase a UB-Xa a while back, and I’m sure this excellent track will inspire others.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I am glad that my videos inspired you to get an UB-Xa for yourself. I haven't regret my decision for a single day. Great Synth! Wishing you lots of fun with your UB-Xa. Cheers, Ralph
