Your hip transfer is nuts. Just perfect. So fluid. No jerking or stutter, just clean. I really enjoy watching good hitters. It's almost art how you execute.
The most important thing I learned when my son was in Little League (and I learned it the easy way) is that the bat doesn’t matter if you aren’t hitting the ball. So he used a $30 bat, we worked on his mechanics and he started making good contact. The following year I bought one of those $300 bats used for about $150 and from my experience it turned his singles into doubles and his doubles into triples and he got his first (and only HR) that year also. My advice to parents of young hitters would be: Mechanics first and foremost and once they start hitting consistently that a more expensive bat DOES help.
Riiight? Like, if you don't know to hit with any bat in the few inches of the bat that are optimal (sweet spot) and are able to adjust to the pitch's location enough to give yourself a chance at the barrel? You'll break a $300 bat as well as a $50 if you don't. And if you know the spot, either bat will give you the same outcome 75% of the time. Sometimes, the real high-end stuff gets a little extra, like you said but u still need to hit it, first A little kick in the barrel wont outweigh momentum, you still need a good path and great contact When my daughter learned that and talked about it to other players is when I bought it. Never really said that that would be line where I went over 100. Her Buying in made
I agree this is definitely the way to go. I used team bats until I was 12 then aged out with literally 0 hits. I started working on fundamentals and my parents made an investment in me in my 13u year and I started getting doubles every game
I was 6 ft, 230#. I’m 70 now, but in the day I used what was called a Bombat. Some guys would cheat and pull the end cap and load it. For the record, I never loaded a bat. When I started the fence was only 275 feet, gradually moved out to 290, 300 then 310.
@@johnwydra6573 just looked it up, bombat reminds me of all the old school Nike's, Andies and Eastons we used in HS 05-09 (we weren't corking as HS girls though 🤣). I don't remember anyone using composite when I played, but we still have the aluminums at the field now that I coach and watching the kids today use them is absolute gold. Idk how we used those but I think we were also a lot bigger in height/size on average and didn't really have a choice. Crazy to see the evolution, be interesting to see the short-lived titanium bat tested out today💥
@@marcusaurelius180AD I should explain, this was ASA slo pitch softball in the early seventies when I started. Guys used lead shot, glued into a clump inside the barrel. These guys were 6-5, 275 and launched balls into the far distance. They end loaded to get more leverage. They dwarfed me in size. There was a lot of shenanigans in the day. I also played during the time period of unlimited arc. Glad they got rid of that.
@@MorganGaither12 MLB steroid era used wooden bats just an FYI. Marcus was referencing High School Baseball, when bats in the 90's were allowed to be -5.
I played softball in the 70s and 80s and hit HRs with wooden bats. Thst being said, you've got a SWEET swing and your arms are killer!! Keep on truckin', girl! ⚾️⚾️
To be fair the balls we were using back in the day weren't the pillows we are hitting now. Slopitch is a bigger difference between bats. Materials make a large difference.
That's because of the balls and the COR they had. You need to match the ball to thebat cause if the COR and Compression. Balls back then and even early 2000s wernt really limited but the better the bats became they needed 5o make the ball come off slower to save pitchers lives.
@Marileny Mateo typical response from youth today. Men from our Era would hands down put you kids to shame if we had the technology they have now. I think I hit longer HR with single wall aluminum bats than composite bats of today. We had many 400+ plus bombs with shit bats and balls
I’ll bet the reverb on your hands and arms are a killer with the $50 and $100 options. But they are terrific options when the littles are just learning. I didn’t start buying the more expensive options until my daughter was in travel ball.
The bat matters, to a point. The flex of the barrel, the way the handle behaves through the swing and allows you to comfortably connect (versus stinging your hands) all matter a lot. But then you have to have all the mechanics of a great swing and timing. That outweighs the bat so a $150 bat for a great hitter is going to be a better output than a $400 bat with a mediocre hitter. It’s always down to the hitter though when home run derbies aren’t your end game.
What a crock,!! I played in and around Chattanooga for about 25 years from the 70s thru the 90s. We hit tons of homers with cheap aluminum hats. That's all we had. We also used 48 core balls. Most fences were ,275-300 ft. It ain't all in the bat.
I played ball with a stick of aluminum and a tape grip. We managed to hit them out. However, I love this lady. She's amazing, down to earth, and speaks the truth about the bats. It's the person's adherence to mastering the swing. Coaches do not teach the swing. Anyway, great video. You got another subscriber young lady. Boom.
We recently upgraded from an Easton topaz to a Rawlings mantra 2.0 my daughter was hitting doubles and triples with her Easton first game of the season with her new bat home run! The aluminum bats are great for learning proper swing technique but if they want to be a great hitter the bat really does matter in the end!
Awesome vids Morgan. My 8 y/o daughter Morgan (sorry not named after you, but I can lie going forward as say she is) plays travel softball. She is not a big girl, but she has the fundamentals in place, and technique. She is NOT a power hitter by any means but she is a great contact hitter. We moved her from her aluminum bat about 6 months ago to a two piece composite and it made a big difference. Now when she connects it does go further and she is feeling a lot better about herself on that field. I'm still waiting on that HR but I know it will come one day. Basically, bat DOES make a difference......along with the athlete. Love the vids, keep it up.
It’s great that she’s starting young! Tip… I will be posting full tutorials on hitting techniques- including maximizing your power, in case that is something that would interest her.
I haven’t played baseball since I was in high school, 40 years ago. You know what bat I used as a kid? The free one they gave away at the Dodger game. Yeah, they used to give kids full sized little league bats as giveaway’s at games. A year or so later I got one at a Angels game. 😂😂😂 First time seeing one of your videos. I love your personal energy, zest.
@@dominickcoppola8249 thanks for letting you know you can’t spell, do simple math and don’t know the history of little league. Thanks again I love a good laugh.
How many times did you say, "I'm not gonna lie" in this video.... Lol 😂 Hey,have you done a video on all the songs/chants that the softball players sing in the dugout to psyche out the other team ? That'd be a cool video
I went from 60$ bat too a 250$ bat at the end of playing . That was a 20 year run. The worst bat I ever bought was a carbon fiber bat. It had a small sweet spot and do believe I still got it in my baseball bag. Made the bag stand up easier to grab the better bat I had. 😂
I agree. As an umpire and college recruiter. My oldest was a pitcher taught to pitch by Mike's USA pitching consultant. Now batting, as a college player, if she wasn't hitting, she was DH or 1st. She joined the NCAA pitchers with most HRs for being a pitcher. What ever bat is hot yet legal is what she used. Easton sponsored her college. She's an Easton lover. Yet Louisville had a rough grip on the barrel creating massive backspin, so the college bought her 4 as it was like taking candy from a baby. Just drive through the ball and bam! The spin for 160$ less. I used to love giving lessons but as an umpire, I was scratching my head over this bat at 299$ vs the new Easton ghost at 459$. She went 12 DBLs 6 triples and 7 fingers at a whopping .370 something, never caring about stats. I miss SB 😞. Retired and last of the old umpires who ran our team playing just for scholarships. I had to hit this video! Just can't resist 😜. I used to coach rec teams due to no coaches. My wife was a pitching and throwing coach. Can't throw " Go see coach Janie"😎. I did the batting and found the best math parents to do stats. Took rec teams to select tourneys with tee-shirts and placed😁😁. Takes a village and high spirits to have fun and build up studs, but never forced to play. It was rec. Met my wife at 19 on softball fields umpiring, we're in our 50s now. Still teach umpire classes in TX though. Still going to watch tourneys and eat my shaved cherry ice with a Dr pepper 😎. Sadly, sometimes I don't know what these coaches think as it's better to coach than coach your own player/kid. Mine made her own way but I stepped in on the college visits. Never told a coach I was showing up for the week. Had to see the full experience of surroundings. That was funny but never turned down a meal , just the room. This part was for advice for a players parents! Mine had over 10 full ride offers , ended up playing for a coach that met her in southern Louisiana. Outcome, great time in college as well as the sisterhood of the team. Thanks for the video, no reason to spend a lot on a composite and see it collect dust. The ones who do tee work 3-4 times a week, then it's a feel thing. Most shops I dealt with that are in business all have a 30 day plus return. They know your players return. I still have a made in the USA stealth 32" in the corner. Thanks again for a trip down memory lane 😎
Morgan I want to see you take a wood bat and hit some baseballs because your swing is amazing. If you decide to do that I recommend trying a flared that handle and then a Axe bat handle to see which
1. Thank you for the demonstration; 2. I believe mechanics comes first; 3. Could you or anyone help me understand why and how a good, better bat performs better? Is it the material? Weight? How is it better?
My team for baseball swings Nothing but Demarini aluminum, and for baseball, it's a mix of Demarini composite and Easton composite ranging from 79 up to 549 dollars
Problem is the ghost bat will 100% break within 6 months. There is a warranty but that means you have to buy another one since it’s takes months to get the warranty situation resolved.
Exactly. Buddy thought her was gonna outsmart the system and buy a warranty through Dicks and not wait. They were of course sold out when he tried to warranty it and had to wait just as long as shipping to Easton
Not sure if you use them but have you used either the DeMarini Prism+ or the Marucci echo connect?? Those are my 2 go to bats and I love them. Never used a ghost so seeing if you have any comparison...would be a fun video to see.
I use the echo one piece and gurl ima tell you compared to the goast which was my old bat that broke in a half season and ima tell you that the marucci is soooo much better keeping in mind that the goast cost 500 bucks and the echo cost 2 something and that the echo is much more durable and they preform very similar keeping this in mind I would easily choose the echo over the goast any day of the week
@@cbernard1122 I like my Prism a little better but both are great. I rarely used Easton so just never tried their higher end bats. My echo is great but my Prism is my baby personally. Just feel like I have such great control and feel with it. Thanks for your experience with the ghost. Kinda wanna try one out but will see about borrowing maybe lol
The 2023 Echo Connect Diamond is a great bat with just as much pop as any Ghost, and it won't break like the Ghosts. Oh, and it's significantly less expensive.
It really comes down to the hitter and their mechanics. If they don't have good fundamentals then the bat is almost irrelevant. Yeah sure hitting a composite bat will help with some power gains but it will be inconsistent. I see it all the time in my nieces games as well as in my adult slowpitch games. Fundamentals are the most important part of hitting. One of the guys on my men's team is all upper body and he hits dingers a few times a season. When he finally gets his fundamentals down and incorporates his lower body those few times a season are going to become a more regular thing. One of our local HS ballplayers is a defensive baller. At the plate though she lacks solid fundamentals. She should be a much better fundamental hitter because of all the years she's played but all her coaches figured it would work itself out. Now comparing aluminum to composite is really comparing apples to oranges. I'd say compare 3 different aluminum bats from different price points and 3 different composite bats from different price points and that's where you'll see the difference. You are doing great things here with your channel. Keep up the good work and I look forward to more content.
Loved the video! Your great! $500 bat with a $10 swing is going to get you a dime's worth of distance! Or only impress the banker not the pitcher :) Or look good in the dugout but not in the batters box!
My experience is i had like a 30$ bat for my rec team then I made a finesse travel team and my coach (who is one of the best batting coaches in the Midwest) taught me some great mechanics and my mom bought me a Easton Ghost bat and my doubles turned into homeruns I have hit 8 homeruns just in my winter season after just getting my bat
I grew up playing baseball. One of the teams I played for was a summer league high school team. No one cared. It was just something to do in the evenings. We didn't have real coaches and everyone played out of position just for fun. I experimented with a different bat every time I got to the plate. I found that the bat didn't matter. Some of the best hits I got were from the cheaper bats. They felt more natural to me.
The sad thing to me is cheap bats today vs cheap bats of yesterday, I guarantee you would do better with a cheap 80's era aluminum bat, then a cheap aluminum bat now. The premium bats now may be better then the premium bats then, but the cheap bats then were nicer then the cheap bats now. My older aluminum bats that are rounded on the end also don't make this annoying after the hit ringing sound. They definitely ring, but it has a solid stop and not that horrible lingering sound at the end these newer bats make. hard to explain. I'll still take a wooden bat over aluminum any day for a game. They also still have the most satisfying sound. Light aluminum for practice, heavier wood for play. Obviously there's some composite bats that will hit it further but also not legal in most leagues. But that is just my pure amateur for fun batting opinion.....
You proved you have a great swing when you hit balls blindfolded. Being able to repeat that swing is an advantage. Your skills are unquestioned. Got my granddaughter an Easton Ghost, the $400 version. She’s a big strong U-12 and the pop off the bat, compared to her old Easton Topaz Aluminum has convinced me it was worth the money for the upgrade. She still has a lot to learn. She has the strength but needs to get the swing mechanics down, like you have to take full advantage of the composite Ghost.
Yea but u can see the difference on her swing with the 500 bat lol plus my kid does fine with any bat she uses. Back then she was in love with her cheap bat and always short on hone runs due to only using arm power not the whole body but she bent the barrel after so long
The way she said at 7:25 "What happened " Got me so goofed out. I am so god this girl is on youtube. you rock Like I would not buy a 500 Dollar bat but if you give it to me, HECK ya I would use it. And I play baseball so if you give that to me. We will win EVERY game Not to lie. Hope you have a good rest of your night/day and yea. Morgan you are the best player ever. I cannot even hit it over the fence for me Lol like....... You are good and every time I watch you got me thinking of I should do baseball more. I alr am playing flag football this year so I like to keep me limited to what I play and the max for me is 2. I love your vidoe's keep up the great work Morgan!
They actually get better when it's colder. Just remember girls were hitting HR using alloy bats years ago. It's all about the hitter. Alloy actually flexes more than carbon and can actually hit a ball farther than carbon with live pitching.
