Trick for cutting the foam use an electric knife like would be used in the kitchen. Also if you cut the foam about a half inch oversize for you seat plate it will wrap the edge of the seat plate smoothing the edges making it look more professionally done for those who never recovered a seat. Also the t-nuts should seat in flush to the board best way to install t-nuts is on the floor where the board wouldn't bounce. Also the best plywood to use is marine grade. And you should glue the foam to the pan plate before covering it as it prevents the foam from sliding and bunching up when cornering and braking.
I would say bringing lil red up the hill was the craziest thing I ever saw; if I hadn’t have seen a 13yr.old boy pouring gas in a carb. From a coke bottle, sitting on the fender with the hood off while his 15yr. Old brother drove the old car down a country road.. but I was 15 and thought it was funny at the time. Bad thing was his daddy owned a little junk yard and a wrecker they could have used!😊
I think your seat looked better than anything I have ever made!..that was a great video..I like those special nuts you used in the seat..that will help me for future builds
sometimes you can put seat covering in a pillow case after cutting it to size and putting it in the dryer making it more ply able and stretchy then it doesn't require the stitches or folding in the corners.
Love this episode. It speaks to me on a personal level. Grown men playing with childrens go carts. Buds playing chase the cart with break cleaner. Another buddy losing his glock in the leaves. GB America.
RB, love the channel and your testimony, keep up the great content! Seriously though- all the awesome workbenches you have and you decide to work on a piece of plywood on a chair... also the rivets on that 30 series back plate can be welded... don't trash it.
Episodes like that are why I subscribe, like, and follow ya'll's channel. I'm think'n an episode of RedBeard push'n Mrs RedBeard on the Murray on an extended trail ride with lots of hill climbs. And hey, if you took the engine off, it'd be lighter!
Lmao I live in Crossville, and found one of those old Murray's IDENTICAL to that the other day and the people wanted 500 bucks for it. Those things only cost like 750 or so bucks when they were brand new like 20 years ago!
RBG , Im a new subscriber . Just started doing my own builds, your videos are great . Giving me ideas and instrctions i need to continue. Thanks keep it up.
Mr. Red Beard! You did OK on the seat covers. At lease your bringing the Go Karts and Mini bikes back to life. If it wasn’t for you guys and others these Go Karts will still be abandon are junked. Bringing it back to life for it to be ridden again. 👍🏽👍🏽up!
You know that Low Oil indicator you disconnected? I hope you may want to hook that back up, Predator engines aren't Briggs & Strattons, so they won't last long without oil :-) Sounds like the wife was having just as much fun filming you as you were having on that thing. Great build!
That Kart has a longer than usual back, you should add a bit of length and have like a pick up truck kart! I'm from Australia so we call it a ute which in all honesty, is a smaller version of a pick up
next project should be a 2 seated wrecker custom build gear low with a winch , fuel ,air, and a flat bed with all the off road riding you do you can go get what broken in the woods or on your land rev would be nice and a light on top .
You should make a go kart that has heated seats, inclosed cave, air conditioning, maybe power steering, have lights. Maybe Evan you can make attachments for it like a mower like this comment so he can pin it. I think it is a awesome idea. You should also put a v twin on it and it would be like a utility luxury vehicle.
I really need to either fix the frame on mine or find a frame to transfer all my parts to. I have a Murray Explorer just like this but with a custom seat, a Honda GX270 and 3 splits through the frame
BoostAddict mine is the same as this but has the full cage and decals (pretty good paint too). Full working condition, Tecumseh 6.0hp, drilled jets, ditched governor, coke can head gasket, modified air filter, 45mph top speed before I get too terrified on the road with the tires and alignment.
@@cainadkins3985 lol the ole coke can head gasket….If you have ever busted a head gasket and you are losing pressure you can Jerry rig it by cutting a tin can open and flattening it out and make an impression of the head into the tin, then cutting it around the impression to make a “JIG” that works as a gasket…usually a very temporary fix.. Sometimes ends up being long term Im not judgin…my old Yerfie was basically held together with Band-aids and Bubblegum lol 😆
I've got a project on a kart just like this right now. It's got dual wilwood calipers with a kohler magnum 18hp. If you want some power get a predator 670cc with aftermarket parts from go power sports now talk about some torque.
Very nice Murray Explorer that's what it is I have two of the same ones they're great machines got mine in North Carolina Vail to be exact at my uncle's house
Same here along with replacing the rotted out seat with the cheapest folding boat seat they can find, and of course if the tires are not bald as slicks they go to walmart and get at least 3 different sized and/or brand lawnmower tires to put on it. When I picked up the last one the guy kept going on and on about the "new" tires to the point I thought he was attached to them. After I bought it and got it loaded up I asked him if he wanted them back and I think it ticked him off. It had 2 different brand 20 inch atv tires on the front and 2 16 inch turf saver tires on the rear. When I test drove it the thing was dragging the ground all over the place and had no traction.
Those are old knobbies, back in the 70s-80s just about any and all atvs had those factory. Kenda scorpions are a good example if they even still make them. I know back then atvs and lawn mowers shared rim sizing so it wasn't uncommon for guys to put the atv tires on a mower. We had a old rust bucket we mowed around our ponds with that had knobbies on all 4 corners back in the 80-90s because it would get stuck with turf tires.
What happened to the cage? Mine has a 6.0hp Tecumseh and a full cage along with Murray explorer vinyl stickers on the front of the kart (you’re missing the metal by the pedals). I think the only thing my kart doesn’t have is the plastic cover on the rear and some damaged wood on the bottom of the seat (common issue).
Oh and if the rivets aren't completely broke off and it's still in alignment you can weld it I welded mine 4 years ago and is still running strong just thought I'd let you know you don't have to buy a new one I love those Marie explorers
I've made seats before. But I always keep an eye out for someone throwing out a coutch and cut the back out it and grab a cushion for the foam. Only some have the good stiff foam. Did you try out the black pipe in the plumbing section to make handle bars? Great job on the seat bu the way. Love the vids
Just for the sake of saving money and at least just for testing purposes only as you've heard said before. I, would have welded that back plate on that driven pulley to compensate for the busted rivets. That would have worked. Hope your doing good boss Redbeard
You should also start playing this game it's called The Game of Life and Samoa board game it's not a video game basically if you find your opponent saying the code word is sike got ya and then they have to do either 5 or 10 of their work out of choice and if you go through a doorway it adds to more things to it and if you want to spare them you don't say got ya and every single time somebody gets got you have to change the word
Im in Jersey, and im not having much luck finding a go cart frame to start a project, so if you can recommend something please do. and I would love to see what that cart goes can do with a 250 kx engine on it!
Harbor freight bender, welder, and grinder with some steel from you local supply and you Can build any frame you need….forever, whenever You know…. That whole…”teach a man to fish” thing will change your life…you will gain skills you never knew you were capable of… Best of luck
If you have one avalible id do a cheap 22mm chinese pitbike carb they are a tad smaller then the mikuni but would be good for a stock internal engine build with a cheap short NR mikuni adapter manifold
I have the go kart like that too been looking forward to upgrading the engine or put 420cc on it if you can help me out I found a 15hp for $225 if you think that's better
Doing the exact same thing to my 85 dollar go kart doing almost the seat exhaust gas tank air intake I'm a kid and I love doing this stuff butt it is expensive
