*Where do you land on the Bug Out / Survival Bag? We feel 3 days doesnt cut it.... With water and shelter anyone can last 72 hours. We feel planning for a 2-3 week emergency makes more sense! Tell us your Thoughts Down Below!* Also TRAIL LIGHT: Kogalla RA... I ran out of room in the Video Description...

For me it depends on my plan and who I expect to have along with me. My plan is to have tools not easily attainable on my own or in the wild. Additionally items for short term and longer term. Like water filtration instead of packaged water, pots instead of pounds of pre-pack food. I keep a short supply of food rations in the bag for an immediate need while escaping only. Shelter and fire are important, I consider the rule of 3's which we all know. In my area I can only get so far from the city, so I have my bag setup for my situation. I hope that makes sense, but 2-3 weeks for me will be pretty much in an urban jungle, not a rural one.

Obviously you can go to Canadian tire or Walmart and buy a 200$ kit.. but its gonna fall apart after 3 trips to the field.. this is an investment, in the outdoors. How much does that $5000 rig weigh??? My guess is at least 100-lbs +++... As a life long back packer/through hiker I can tell you, if you expect to cover any amount ground in a bugout situation, weight is everything. You need to be much lighter than that. Like 65-70 lbs max for a young man and no more than 50 lbs for a young woman. For myself now at age 57 and still doing hikes that cover 60 to 80 miles in a 5 days. I prefer less than 50 lbs. Typically my pack is between 40 to 45 lbs for 1 person for 7 days without rationing food. With rationing this can be easily doubled... This weight includes 3 liters of water, a good water filtration system, 1 can of bear spray, a 2-man tent, stove with fuel, clothing and sleeping gear to keep me comfortable down to 25 deg-F... Add another 5 lbs for snow conditions with temps reaching just a little below zero... However, This does not include a fire arm and ammo. Though you could substitute a small cal. hand gun for the bear spray for about the same weight... The cost of my rig is around $500...

@@DropForgedSurvival Well it does matter a lot what the survival scenario is. I am by no means a survival expert, most of my experience comes from only a few years in the Army and working with Emergency Management and Public Safety personal. I am also a hiker and have sectioned hiked the AT a bit and planning a thru hike in a year or two, so I dig how you incorporated into your methods. If you're planning on a SHTF scenario, you look pretty solid. I try and plan for the more likely out outcomes first and give more time to prepping for sheltering in place and bugging out in my car. I think the gear you have packed could be replaced with possible lighter (which also means even more expensive) and in some cases find you don't use some items. I'll be interested in the outcome of your trial to hear what you ended up needing and how much weight was an issue. From my thru hiking prep, you need to subtract your estimated food and water weight from your max weight you can carry. But if you're planning on homesteading in a SHTF trial, you look prepared and thought out.

This was basically just a way for him to show off his $5000 survival bag and explain how clever he was for picking everything. There seems to be a mentality to preppers of bragging about their reasoning. I was just disappointed that there was no exploration into how the $500 was different from the $50 and what parts could be taken from it to add to the $50 because that's the most reasonable price range.

Here's what I've gleaned from videos of that nature (not claiming expertise, just a camper with many hours of being entertained by RU-vid survival channels): If you are spending lots of time/making your living doing survivally stuff, it would make sense to buy the best possible gear and spend tons of money. You'll be the ones people look to when SHTF. If you are a hobbyist, it makes sense to get good gear and practice with it so you can handle the occasional bad situation. If you're an average joe who simply wants a little emergency preparedness, and have no interest in being in the woods, you just need food, water purification, and lighting to get you through to find the pros. In any case, weight is an issue...a regular person isn't going to make much distance with 60lbs of gear on their back, it's just not something regular people have experience with. Know your position, prepare for what you can.

To be fair in an extreme survival situation that $50 bag could keep you alive. If you conserve the water and the food for 10-14 days. Don’t get me wrong that’s STRETCHING it but people have survived longer than that with nothing at all. Great for putting in your car and those bigger bags are for a serious collapse of society and disasters that see millions of people die.

In Search and Rescue we have a 24 hour and a 72 hour bag at the ready depending on the situation... Both packs full are not over $400. You don't need a $200 knife when a $20 mora will do. Not necessarily. It's not always about the equipment but the quality of it all. Sure, you can work up some grit with the cheaper stuff but a great quality bag will go a long way. How in the world did humans manage to survive the last few hundred thousand years without fifty pounds of useless commercial crap on their backs? Glad you asked. By carrying the only thing you really need. A brain stuffed with the knowledge of your local area and how to use what grows there to your advantage. And friends. You can't do it alone, people.

Hahahaha.... Maybe I forgot about all the Massive Horse Wagons, Day Rucks, and Luggage folks brought with them when moving cross country, homesteading new lands, and surviving until a town was established. Hell.. I need to tell them they were all wrong! With that said... you are 100% correct.. the brain is a fantastic tool but you can’t go all jedi and hunt a bear with your mind, and skin a deer with telekinesis. 🤦🏻‍♂️

@@DropForgedSurvival Maybe you misread what I wrote. Or possibly haven't the most basic knowledge of human history outside of the expansion west learned from Hollywood hokum. Let me repeat. The last few hundred thousand years. Not the last few hundred. There were no horse wagons. Actually, there were no horses for most of that time. Or any type of domestic animals. Or dogs. Or cats. The luggage people carried with them was some skins, a coal (if lucky), a club of some sort, and a few good throwing and cutting rocks. There was no homesteading for most of that time as well. You ate what you found that wasn't too rotten to keep down. And none of this surviving until a town was established. No towns. Just surviving. They had their wits and experience. Something 99% of armchair survivalists lack. Most of the people I've seen online or on TV wouldn't last a week after the SHTF. But they'd sure go out in style with that fancy $5000.00 backpack and veritable arsenal of weapons that would come in handy for the guy that takes it from his cold dead hands. You should be thankful for the fact that prehistoric humans didn't need an online "guru" to sell them bad information and cheap crap the will break in a few days. Else you wouldn't be here to do what you are doing.

have fun walking around in animal skin clothing and making fire with your bowdrill... why are you watching a channel about "bad information and cheap crap the will break in a few days" if you only walk around with your brain? knowledge is obviously the most important thing but using modern materials is better than living like a caveman. would you rather spend hours building a leaky primitive shelter by cutting trees down with your stone knife or would you rather throw down a tent in 10 minutes and be warm inside of a dry sleeping bag? when you go camping do you bring nothing, or only what prehistoric man carried? every society on earth has advanced to the point where they have villages and they garden or have livestock. the hunter gatherer lifestyle was what humanity did until they found a better way. id rather be rich sitting in a mansion than chasing after a herd of buffalo and shooting it with my stone arrows...

WOW, $5,000 is a MASSIVE amount of money my friend! I have been involved in survival and bushcraft training for over 30 years now, and I have built up a lot of equipment over those years! But I very much doubt that my equipment would be much more than $2000 tops, but that is because I decided to invest more time into building and gaining knowledge, which is the principal of bushcraft, the more knowledge you have, the less equipment you will need to carry!!!! I have met and worked with many different survivalist and bushcrafter's over the years, who all start out the same way, equipment for everything! Which soon seems to change quickly once the realise the concept of carrying it all!!!Lol.😆 And the advantage of knowledge, you will always have it with you when you need it the most! Great video by the way, I liked the fact that you covered 3 different budgets, and I liked your idea about purchasing the $50 kit and adding to it, that is certainly the way I would go if I was starting out. I think it's important for people to realise, that your equipment is like your skills, they grow with you! Best wishes from the UK 👍 😉

I lived in a tent on the river (no jokes pls) for 2 years straight. I wanted to know if shtf I could make it. Do you wanna know what you REALLY need? A 55gallon platic bag to put your sleeping bag inside. A very good knife with belt sheath . Fishing line and hooks n sinkers (which if wrapped up will attach to your ball cap.) A handkerchief or 2 for filtering your water. A water bottle. A small pot to boil water and cook in. A swiss army knife. 3 changes of clothing and para cord. I had the braclets from the dollar tree with the whistle and a compass on them. A first aid kit. That's all i wound up needing. Everything else I started out with was UTTERLY USELESS.... I started with a north face back pack, a few bottles of water, several water purification methods, a map, a compass, different pairs of gloves and a knife. Now I have all that stuff upgraded, a rifle, a sidearm, better knives, a better pack, food rations for at least one week, a second pack that I wear myself, and a few medical things to stop bleeding and smaller emergencies like such. Most important thing is getting experience and learning what you’ll need year around. I learned that from hunting. I hunt different game all year, so I learned what I need as far as clothing and water or food. Experience is key so do your best to get that under your belt. Also carry your pack on your back some. Gucci gear doesn’t mean anything if you can’t carry it more than a few miles
@Harshhaze

5000? Really? A quality knife would go for about 100. You can buy emergency rations and non perishables for up to a month for less than 100. Water can also be purchased for less than 100. Fire asking kit can easily be under 100. Shelter can be expensive, but surely under 300. First aid: 100 for a good trauma kit. Lighting? Under 100. I'm not used to bag prices, but unless the bag is upward of 4000, that 5000 price tag is either overrated or the people buying it are... Well...

Besides the heavy, big, expensive and ineffective gear like that knife and the "trap", there is SO much unnecessary packaging on this gear, a quarter of the shit you're carrying is redundant packaging.

Btw, a little tip for your arrows, use natural feathers instead of the little plastic ones. They are much more durable and better for stabilisation of the arrow.

I want to see you do a 7 day challenge with nothing but UST gear. It doesn't have to be that particular kit, it just has to be ALL ust iteams.

Buying a bug out bag? Call me crazy but one does not BUY a big out bag. One builds a bug out bag. You can figure out plenty by watching videos reading outdoors mags and purchasing military survival guides...which the survival manuals should be the first piece of your bag. Do not buy a bag....build your own to your specs

If you don't have the knowledge to buy rudimentary items and a bug out bag to last at least 72 hours throwing money at the problem isn't going to help much.
@DropForgedSurvival

This is not wrong... all you need is water and a decent shelter for 96 hours or less.... You don’t actually need more than that.

@@DropForgedSurvival I was thinking more along the lines of making a small investment of time and at least doing a little reading on the subject to make your purchases informed decisions. What you're doing in the vid with your family would also be a good investment of time.

@@DropForgedSurvival then why do you need all that other crap in you 100+ "bug out" bag? Like a 500$ knife?

I'd say that's a bit much but 3,000 would not be unreasonable whatsoever. A good trauma kit could cost 1000 alone. People just don't have good kits at home because Hospitals. What happens when hospital isn't an option?
@user-ng5pg4im5g

@Cyber Stein that's not a bad idea but what happens if you don't know a paramedic or if the paramedic dies? I like to plan for that. But, I tend to stress prepping for more realistic SHTF scenarios myself (no offense to anyone prepping for long term WROL) but in most cases, tornados in Oklahoma for example, a couple weeks is all you need in any catastrophic disaster, but, if it required more than that? I'm not sure I'd wanna live in a world like that as a late age disabled vet, y'know?

5,000 bag wow that's stupid might as well pay for survival classes. Only because you have the best gear doesn't mean you have the skills of survival.
@Inspectorzinn2
@Inspectorzinn2 5 лет назад
Tell ya what. I'll take my $5,000 bag and you take your skills and we'll both spend 15 days in the forest. I won't even break a sweat... you'll be lucky to be alive. Most survival skills are heavily dependent on luck. I bring my own luck. Shows you haven't spent much time in the woods.

Inspectorzinn2 goddam you sound like a city boy who's happy about his new toys. Listen kid if you really that happy about your toys than you do not understand nature since you barley spend any actual time with it. What you are doing is no different from kids having a camp in their backyard.
@Inspectorzinn2
@Inspectorzinn2 5 лет назад
...That's why I won't break a sweat? If I have everything I need, then yes it's basically camping as there is nothing left to chance. You gonna be scrounging around all day looking under rocks for edible bugs and weeds? Hoping your traps or hunt works? Doing a rain dance for water? Spend 4 hours trying to make fire? Have fun with that. Not to mention your activities dramatically increase your chances of injury. Have fun with that infection and no antibiotics.

Inspectorzinn2 I like how you actually consider yourself a camper like why. Are you just doing this so you won't feel bad about how stupid I made you feel with my first comment. It's ok kid enjoy your toys, remember you can be the next bear grills.

You're the one claiming to be Bear Grills with the skills dude. At least I back what I say, 15 days wilderness trip you name the place and date, I'll see you there. I have dozens of trips under my belt, and total confidence in my gear.
