A late friend of mine was stripping copper back in the late eighties , he was running a 3-71 GMC powered hammer mill that was capable of chewing thru large bird's-nest of wire with no problems , spitting out pieces 3-4 inches long and mostly cleaned . From there it we t into a small hammer mill that not only finish cleaned , but left the pieces about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch long . From there it went across a vibratory table that was tapered at one end to funnel the pieces into a quart jar for transport . Above the table was a suction hose to remove the insulation and chaff . He ended up getting sick from copper poisoning , because wearing a mask would have interfered with his cigarette .

Thats why I want to run a water sluice and I have a dust collector I plan on running on the granulator. Sounds like it was a awesome machine, sorry your friend got sick.

They still make similar machines. New ones are smaller, some even confided in a shipping container with a hopper to feed in, two outputs, one for copper, the other for the insolation. Cost a bit over 1m new, and need a claw crane or excavator to feed, but can churn through cables like no ones business.
@handduggraverdronline
@handduggraverdronline 2 года назад
Stripper definitely the way to go. People have all these ways of stripping wire without a machine but not many people understand that insulation is different. This last chunk of wire for example you couldn't score it really. But it was the easiest wire I ever cleaned. Make a 3 in slice and pull the copper out while twisting the insulation. Did a 100ft cord by hand in 20 maybe 30 min

You need 3 X 3 roll around table with 6 or 8" sides at the wire stripper to stack up what is getting stripped . This way you don't have to keep bending over . Under 4 X 10 table puts some brackets to slide round bars , shafts , or anything you want to get out of the way . On the bank draws label them and put what think will use the most at eye high .The old Beaver pipe machine would make a great BBQ spit .

The stripping machine could use a conveyor belt to move the stripped wire/ insulation away from the moving parts of the system. Idk if that's an issue or could be at some point. 10 years ago I was big into scrapping before the prices dropped and was making 60k-70k a year and really enjoyed it. Found your channel recently and it's making me want to get back into it. Thanks!

You need a table to put the coils of wire on and cut the coils on the table and slide the wire down were you feed it into the stripper, that way you wont have to bend over and pick them up, save your back, also you can mount a pipe to hold spools of wire to feed the big stripper. The shop is looking great. The electric service needs to be upgraded to anywheres from 200 to 600 amp because you will that 100 amp service will be overloaded when you start welding and doing fabricating things and then you could use that three phase generator, so don't sell it. I knew a guy who took a three phase motor and a single phase motor and used the single phase one to turn the three phase one with a belt and made three phase power to run his lathe, because the power company didn't have three phase power were he lived and it would have costed several thousand to get three phase power to his place. Keep up the great videos and God bless you and your family.

I'm surprised you can find so much scrap people are willing to sell, they can cash it in as it is for far less than what you get after stripping but people being desperate for money would make me think scrap would be hard to come by. No disrespect to anyone but please be careful who you hire and your security, when you have the ONE BIG LOAD ready to go is when someone will hit you and skip town... Great stuff, keep it up!

Love the set up, MODERNISE the new stripper would it be possible to gind away some of the grips, i would open the gap to its widest and paint the tips of the blades. Would then slowly lower it with sand paper throw the feed holes as you lower the blade showing what blades are actually used for each hole, then u could file some of them down so that would give you a set of blades since they are filed will just be extra grip with the one or 2 sets of blades per hole be used as the cutting blades. Just an idea, and thats only if its possible to do it

Suggestion for your future wire stripper- Something that would make it much more efficient is a "double decker stripper". Like how you were feeding both at the same time. But instead of them side by side design 1 right above the other with duplicate sizes. So as you feed 1 wire in the top you can then feed another in the bottom and by the time youve done that you can feed the next in the top and repeat. Instead of waiting 5 seconds for each wire to go through you are 24/7 just feeding and it will cut down on your time from that stand point. something else ive noticed from your vids is as you strip the wire if your employees are either not keeping up or not present the wire builds up on the table And idea of mine would be to build a custom box thats like the size of 2 pallets side by side, build it on wheels and build it to match the height of the table. Then install and plate on an angle so the strippings slide down into the box. This would hopefully avoid the build up that you see at the table and would then allow you or someone else to process a box's worth of stripping's away from the machine. Keeps them safer and keeps the stripping more efficient as youre not having to stop to process whats built up on the table.

No criticism hear. Just observing. You were putting wire in two different holes. Adjusting many times. Once dialed in, two machines will be great. Right know, the big orange monster eats that stuff up. You R a worker. Going good.

That could be. lol A lot was going on, also could have been different size wire.

You need something to contain the wire from hitting the operator, maybe plexiglass sheild

You know you could sell the jackets off of the wires once separated. I work for a company that buys those jackets in bulk all the time. We shred them and then mix it with other pvc and melt it to be reused in all sorts of manufactured products.

@@ProjectShopFl idk how much scrap you accumulate but look up Tennessee Cryogenics Cumberland city. The owner is there everyday. I am the shift leader overnight - Ryan. I’ve worked there over 10 years. We get stuff like that we call it wire chop and not all the time is it cleaned as well as what I saw in this video.

The problem is you continuously adjusting it while it’s feeding you shouldn’t have to keep adjusting it and you would think that you should be able to adjust it once and get the right cutting depth and it should cut every size since the blades and rollers looked tapered or at least that how I would’ve made it waste a lot of time adjusting it for every size.. we had a smaller one that ran off a drill or you could hook it up to a little motor and once the depth was set you could put 350 in the 350 hole or 12 in the 12 hole and it would strip it didn’t never have to adjust it accordingly to size
@ProjectShopFl
@ProjectShopFl Год назад
The one you hooked the drill to was it 100% removing the copper or did you have to peal it after you ran it through? I just it so there is mostly clean copper on the back side and makes it easier for the people cleaning it.

Please let me know when you get your own wire stripper that I can purchase I mean the one you have now is unbelievable, the one I have is similar to the Blue Rock wire stripper which is not that great from what I see compared to yours. I don't have my own shop I basically carry my wire stripper which is 80 lb up and down the stairs to strip wires which kind of sucks hopefully I can get to where you are by the way I'm from Massachusetts
