$750,000 POT!! Alan Keating’s MASTERCLASS On VALUE BETTING!

This is the largest pot that has ever been played on the Hustler Casino Live stream featuring fan favorite Alan Keating! Here you will witness a masterclass on value betting from Alan Keating as he opts for a 3x overbet shove on the river!
Alan Keating is quickly making a name for himself on the high stakes poker scene as he is an extremely loose & aggressive opponent who is not afraid to put chips into the pot!
His opponent is another player who is quickly becoming a regular in these high stakes cash games by the name of J.R.. He decides to make an ambitious call pre-flop with J8o but Keating’s image no doubt had a huge part to play in J.R.’s decision.
Generally when lots of draws miss on the river you want to use a polarized large sizing as a bet with some busted draws and also your nutted poker hands!
Thank you to Hustler Casino Live for allowing me to use this footage, check out this hand and many more on their amazing RU-vid channel here:

What would YOU do on the river with T♦ 9♦? Your Stack (UTG): $438,000 Their Stack (BB): $322,000 Pot: $104,000 Board: Q♣ 8♣ 7♥ 3♦ J♥ A) Bet $34,000 B) Bet $52,000 C) Bet $104,000 D) Bet $322,000 (all-in)

Alan got lucky. I'd be thinking bet 1/2 pot to get a call if he has Qs or even 8s and maybe induce a raise if he has 2 pair. All-in could potentially scare off 1 pair. Then again all-in smells like a busted draw as well. I would have to know my opponent and how they would react. If Alan has the reputation of big bluffs, Alan should go all in.

We should use three sizings on this river: a small size (33%) an ordinary size (80%) and a whopping size (all in). Our hand should mostly bet all-in and occasionally small (to balance and protect our bet small range). Exploitatively, hero can easily find enough bluffs and we have a loose image AND our opponent has loads of clear bluff catchers, so we should jam. Against a weaker opponent (who doesn't understand polarisation) a 60-80% pot bet should be used.
@SerErryk

I don't think I've ever made a 3x pot jam in my life (except when the nuts is on the board, and I'm hoping the opponent doesn't notice and folds).

I was watching this amazing game live. I loved that JRB slept through the hand. You did not say that Keating was also down over $1 million on the night. Assuming I am playing this game, and properly bankrolled for it, I'd call against Keating and probably not take as long as J.R. took. You just have to pay him off here. He'd be doing the exact same thing with pretty much his entire range including value hands like over pairs. I really love playing in games with players like Keating. They open up the game for everyone. Even hands they're not playing, you know that the other players are wider just because he's there.

Pot is 104k, the idea is to take this line with all your bluffs, so you want to polarize turn and river betting. I think the river bet can be very large like 2x pot. The thing is when you are bluffing you want to apply max pressure, and are you really ever going to want to put in say 210k and leave 100k behind? Not really. It’s just a jam. JAM. P.s. I had a spot almost exactly like this: I raised J8s on the button and my LHO in the SB called with a limper and it came Q85. I checked back the flop. Turn 3. Villain led small I called. River J, giving me JRs exact hand Jacks & 8s. Board is Q85 3 J. No flushes. Now my villain led $900 into the $160 pot! 5.3x! I tanked and folded. I knew he had bluffs but it was over 5x pot and I felt he had a ton of T9 in his range (like all 16), QJ, sets particularly 55… So I folded and he actually showed me…… KK!!!

I would think a value bet that could be called by a marginal made hand would be the size I would take. I also think an large overbet has merit to make it look like a missed draw bluff, but you risk folding out a lot of JR range. I personally would bet 35k or so to give pot odds to about anything to call.

I don't have Alans table image. Alan has the image needed and JR got there with a strong hand himself. Would JR have called this with just a pair of Jacks? That's the hand I wanted to get value from. This was a perfect storm for JR, lost the max.

I'd bet C) - $104k. Well, really, I'd bet ~$125k, but that's not an option. I want to say all-in, but I never ever bluff like that on the river, so I don't have the option - any minimally observant player will see my bet sizing as a clear tell and fold. Moral - I should be willing to make bigger bluffs on the river, to allow me to extract more value when I do have it.

while its true that keating will raise, and c-bet with garbage, I noticed that he only bets turn when he has something (at least a strong draw). And he mostly (or always) gives up on the river if he misses. The fact that keating moved all in so quickly here without hesitation is a tell of a very strong hand. It's not a bluff. If I were JR would I call? Probably, but that's why I'm not a pro poker player. I think a player the caliber of Garret would have folded there.

Im not huge with blockers in no limit but doesn't JR have one of the worst cards in his hand that block a shitload of Alan's bluff's? I can't think of a worse card to have in your hand on this board quite frankly. Can someone smarter and better at cards explain if Im correct here? Or this just a situation where Alan can have any 2 and 2 pair is too strong to fold? As someone whos lost 100k in last 6 months on 6 card plo on some silly union, blockers are huge there, not so sure how important they are in holdem but if they are isn't holding the jack of clubs really bad for JR here?
@chevy11786
@chevy11786 Год назад
You a correct. Removes a lot of his good flush draws and some offsuit straight combos which means he is weighted more heavily to value. JR should not be calling OOP with that hand I don’t care how wide Keating opens in position. Keating plays for stacks and against those kinds of players you need to play hands that flop really well and can improve on later streets. I know Keating can show up with nothing a lot but if the river blanks and keating jams it’s a fold all day considering you hold J of clubs.
