It could be just the dust but might also need new thermal paste if it's never been changed. If it keeps overheating you could possibly kill it if you don't fix it soon.
I have a secret trick unplug the ps3 slim from the ac power cord and hold the eject button then plug it back in while still holding it then the fans while hit max speed while cleaning all the internal dust.
That's not a secret trick, you can do it with all PS3s, and there's no way it would clean all the dust out. It might, if you are lucky, shift a few loose bits of dust.
The instant you lifted the dvd drive and there was a cable under it I thought you shouldn't touch that cause those things under things are just murder. Hard on a good day and once you've fiddle with tech for some hours and it starts to really play tricks and annoy then killing some one seems like an easy way out of having to put it back together. Maybe that's just me....
Haha yes you need the patients of a saint sometimes when fixing this stuff. It did go back in very easily though, would be even easier if I had a pair of hands the size of a child!
I think that ribbon cable came first during assembly in factory, being plugged in through the BD drive casing, and then the BD drive cover was placed. It's not too hard to plug it back in reaching underneath the drive, but for the first time it might be a little frustrating. I've done dusting of a lot of PS3 systems already, the one on video is pretty clean. My current one had intakes literally clogged up with cat fur and it's working as a charm after cleaning it (had very little dust inside, probably the fur worked as a filter). Sony engineers did pretty good job designing cooling system in CECH-2100 and 2500 Slims which are pretty tough. Except they made it use like the third of fan potential to be quiet (do the fan test and you will hear how efficient those fans are) and used thermal paste underneath the processors IHS'. Now decade years old systems are getting overheated more and more often not because the cooling is insufficient or dust built up, but because the heat is not transfered properly to the heatsinks due to crusty thermal paste 😒
This video was just about cleaning a filthy PS3, I do mention changing the thermal paste but most people aren't comfortable doing that. Just because I didn't film it, doesn't mean it wasn't changed. I always change the thermal paste if the console is dirty and I strip it down. I work for myself and do things properly, never had a console retuned.
It's only a bargain when it works. Some times you get lucky some times you get a dud. But that's the chance you take some times when buying from charity shops.
