Magnus Carlsen and Hans Niemann are the 2 most popular chess players in the world.
Magnus, of course, is the greatest chess player of all time. And Hans Niemann - he is the man who beat Magnus Carlsen so badly at the 2022 Sinquefield Cup Tournament, he got accused of cheating!
But what really happend in this game? Did Hans Niemann really cheat to beat Magnus Carlsen? Or did Magnus Carlsen simply rage quit the tournament after he had a bad day at the chess board?
In this video I break down everything you MUST know about this historic game. I also add my personal thoughts of this game at the end - including what I think REALLY went down between these two players… so make sure to watch until the end to get my real opinion on the most famous chess game of all time!

At the end of the day. Magnus Carlsen was a very sore loser! I think your assignment was spot on!

Your analysis demonstrates some Magnus mistakes and good play by Hans. Nothing looked out of place, but Magnus let his ego get the best of him and did a disservice to chess and disrespect to Han. A "black mark" on his otherwise exceptional chess record. But he still doubles down on his mistake by refusing to play Han. The best thing Magnus could do is go public and say something like, after study he no longer believe Han cheated, but his ego will not allow this to happen...

Carlsen's ego had become so bloated that he deserved a little rubdown to get his feet on solid ground again. Bravo, Hans!

I don't think Magnus was "simply having a bad day," I think he allows fear of cheating to weaken his game tremendously. We saw it recently where he lost to a much weaker player while being distracted by that player wearing a watch. It's actually an exploitable weakness if you can put the idea into his head.

Magnus was so devastated by his loss because it literally broke his 53 wins streak. He lost on chess board but destroyed Hans’s whole career. But, Hans is now a top 20 player. The revenge is inevitable.

Yes I don't see any computer strategies at the end. Both missed perfect moves. It's only because Hans is a past cheater, and tried to downplay it later rather than give a full confession. After a valid investigation, rather than accept it he went ballistic. This resulted in further scheming rather than acceptance. Of course he still wants to play with the big boys and be where the money is. There should be testing like testing athletes for steroids, but nothing is done, thus the ongoing suspicions and chaos. In prisons the inmates rights are violated by anal examinations. Why not prior to tournament entry and it could all be computerised even, without the need for human intervention. Then the matter could be put to rest. This kind of thing goes on continually in hospitals also. Nobody condemns the staff for doing their job.

However, Hans is known to have played a few 100% accurate games and many 90% games. That is a higher statistic than any other grandmaster. In this particular game, I have to agree that Magnus just wasn't doing as well he perhaps thought he was, leading to his false accusations.

Can you reference Magnus "formally accused Hans of cheating"?
@albertmcmullen2669
@albertmcmullen2669 25 дней назад
Hans is not a believable chess player, when he plays inferior players and is beaten, obviously he is not cheating. Magnus is his chief customer, which gives him maxium publicity with a winning result. Anyone who thinks Hans is a genuine talent is deluded, lacks intuition and intelligence. You don't need to cheat on every move, only occasionally in complex positions. Hans, has come from nowhere and will end up, nowhere.

if you examine the records carefully, you find that magnus did NOT accuse hans of cheating. in such a case, it's critically important to get the facts EXACTLY right. other than that, everything you said is correct. there's more. magnus FREQUENTLY plays inferior openings, even at the highest level, expecting to outplay his opponents. this almost always works, but he has NO CLAIM on being upset when it fails, as it did today.

In an article by CNN, posted Sept. 28, 2022, the headline is: "Chess world champion Magnus Carlsen explicitly accuses rival Hans Niemann of cheating." Then the article goes on, quoting Carlsen's own words, to amply substantiate the accuracy of the headline. More substantiation of the idea that Carlsen accused Hans of cheating exists in other places as well. And indeed Carlsen went beyond words and acted as if Hans was beneath his contempt several times, making more headlines in the process. So it's hard to know what you're talking about, frankly, when you act like Magnus is just an innocent nice guy, who was just trying to play his game and made no startling claims. He made the claims, but didn't back them up, and used his fame and power to needlessly hurt a fellow chess player.

@@victorfinberg8595 If a person's skill at reading corresponds to their skillful use of punctuation and grammar, than I'm at least as skilled at reading as you are, to put it mildly. So I don't think I misunderstood you. Also, CNN quoted Magnus himself, as I mentioned, so in truth he is the ultimate source underpinning my views. Still, sometimes I'm wrong about things... So I am rather curious about what you think I misunderstood about your first comment. Seemed like you said Magnus didn't call Hans a cheater, and that Magnus only had himself to blame for the loss, in part because he likes to experiment with odd openings in games, even against strong players, counting on his great skill to save him should he run into trouble. Isn't that right? Anyway, I wish nothing but the best for you in your endeavors. And I'm sure we agree on much in life in other areas, aside from this small controversy, regarding which we are merely outsiders looking in. For instance, I'm not usually a CNN fan either. I just figured that when it comes to chess they would have no real ideological axe to grind. Also, we both like chess itself, seemingly. ♟️

@@polarvortex3294 i just spent half an hour writing a lengthy, hostile response ... and it's gone. ok, look 1) CNN, as a mainstream media source, is RELIABLE about one thing only: producing JUNK. no surprise that their article about the sinquefield cup event would be garbage as well. 2) here's what actually happened: (i repeat) "magnus FREQUENTLY plays inferior openings, even at the highest level, expecting to outplay his opponents. this almost always works" this has been fully documented, although never summarized as i do here. in the case of this game, hans did not succumb. magnus rage quit the tournament. over the course of the next few days, magnus made a number of public statements that COULD be interpreted as accusing hans of some form of misconduct, but if you examine what he said carefully, he NEVER actually accused hans of cheating, at least not in any legal (i.e. actionable) sense. during this time, it became PUBLIC knowledge (what had been well known in the chess community) that hans WAS a long-time cheater in other venues. so, when magnus said "hans is a known cheater", this is NOT an "accusation". it is a statement of FACT. but at no time did magnus say "hans cheated in OUR game", or even anything close to that. that distinction is critical. much more happened in this case. magnus quit a later tournament when paired against hans, and was fined for misconduct. hans was banned from various events. hans filed a completely frivolous lawsuit against magnus and a bunch of other entities, which suit was immediately tossed out as soon as a judge looked at it. hans has been reinstated for most purposes, and is playing at a very high level, but also makes rather gross blunders. magnus and hans are likely going to meet over the board in a few days. stay tuned. 3) magnus DID engage in misconduct. i am aware of this, and what i wrote previously INDICATES it. and so does hans ... LOTS of misconduct. but overall, magnus IS a genuinely nice person, with certain blemishes. hans IS a fundamentally NASTY person, and it comes out quite frequently. there is a mountain of evidence supporting everything i have said here, and i have studied much of it. if you wish any further clarification, just ask. 4) if you inspect what i wrote carefully, i trust you will find that there are NO grammatical errors. i hope you will not be too upset about my choice of using CAPITALIZATION. 5) i don't normally do this, but here it seems necessary: THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND WORDS.

It really sucks when that happens. RU-vid seems to be getting harder to understand every day. I suspect I could find a grammatical error beyond the odd capitalization in your replacement rant. Even the smartest people usually make such mistakes. But...
