Another good point to add to your next video. show many new drivers and even some veteran drivers expect to just be picked up soon as they apply but sometimes the main goal is to just get your foot in the door all of these food service places have warehouses or even a box truck route for non cdl. Then once hired you’ll know who to talk to and transfer
I work for blueline food service. A lil bit more organized. Pallets are labeled by stops. Still gotta break them down but at least you know your pallets are for that stop. All your picking is frozen and chemicals. But, we have liftgates instead of ramps. My routes are always anywhere between 36-40 thousand lbs. 1300-1500 cases. We also dont scan product. We go off the invoice and just check off on items making sure that its all accounted for. Respect to everybody working foodservice and thugging it out. 💯 lets get this money 💰
I did interviews with pfg, Martin Brower and us foods after working at Mclane for 2 years… I went with us foods. Right now the top company’s want drivers with food service experience because the job is physically demanding and new drivers are more likely to get hired and leave after seeing how tuff food service can be!
In my area SoCal, Sysco wants 12 months exp. I told u last time I’m goin OTR for Schneider but bro I got a little lucky and landed a local job 👌🏽 I went to the interview and sold my self to the max but the manager said I needed 3 months of xp, called me back the next day n say we have a trainer if your still interested and of course I took the offer. I’m excited to get some experience under my belt man. For y’all new drivers apply to all job postings on indeed and sell yourself that’s my best advice. They say don’t put all your eggs in one basket but what if you had more eggs 🤔
@@YADAMNDADDY sysco in my area saud they wanted at least 3 months i was at 2 1/2 months experience but when i looked back at the site it didn't say u needed experience. Ive been local right out of school but i just need something closer and more consistent
If y’all applying at this local jobs and they are not hiring you as new CDL holder, it might be a good idea to look at regional, home every weekend. That’s what I did when local jobs didn’t offer me a job. Those five days fly by fast when you out here. I mean everybody have different situation in life but if you don’t have something that keeps you home it might be a good idea to explore different options. Also when I was delivering at Home Depot distribution center I seen a lot of JB hunt and Schneider day cab maybe that’s something to look at if it interests you. Call this recruiters don’t just put the application in and wait for them to call you back.
That’s the problem I’m having I passed my road test Saturday and everybody asking for one year or expensive for local I did t want to do it but I’m looking at regional now but I have a interview with Sysco sat hope I get it
Yo bro I’m the one that sent all those companies to you by email a while back. And it does pay off to keep applying because I got hired at Ben E. Keith a couple weeks ago as a shuttle driver with 3 months exp. but they prefer a year and all I have to do is train an extra month. On the next vid tell the driver community that you have a better chance at getting a job under experienced that say “preferred” vs “required” cool hack
Nothing good comes easy. Keep pushing driver! Indeed cdl jobs in your area. Try local post office driving jobs. Too much currency out here waiting on you my brother. Much love ✌🏾
I got a call back from Sysco but it was for the terminal 4 hours from me and it was holding a hiring event with 200 people some experienced candidates for 4 slots. I was risk averse because I needed money so I just went with Werner dollar tree account to build experience and make some money immediately.
My training can be either of those modalities. The dollar general account is going to be dedicated. So home weekly or bi-weekly depending how much you want to make.
People don’t understand how hard food service is. If you’re not built for 13 hour days, 1800 cases a day, 12 stops. You might as well just find a drop and hook company.
Sysco turned me down due to not having no experience. Everything went good in the interview. but they just didn’t want to take a chance on me. Now I’m waiting on US foods to hit me back up, they are trying to open up a trainee position to get me in 🤞🏼
How do you get in touch with someone at us foods? Same thing happened to me at Sysco and it was even the driver trainee position that says new grads welcome. They want 2 years or the dude just doesn’t like me.
What happened this past year? What changed? I know the economy is bad but. Last year I got hired on to Mclane when I had no experience. But the company I been with for 6 years offered to pay back the money I spent on school if I did otr for a year. Also they paid for my hazmat. So I went that route. This year all the food service jobs rejected me. But I’m enjoying otr so I’m not that worried about it.
Sometimes it’s about timing they may say there hiring but at the same time they hold your application for another time just like QCD hit me but I applied earlier in the year so it’s just about timing … but I’ve been with Sysco for a cool minute now so don’t give up try other avenues of trucking and then reapply to to any food service co. Just like Anthony said apply TO ALL of them don’t give up … letsss gooo?!!
Absolutely that's true. I went through that when i was applying for Pepsi. I said y'all hiring but whats going on? And the guy said its all about timing. Absolutely you're correct.
what brand of work boots do you recommend for running up and down the ramp when it’s slippery? i’m about 7 months in and only get discouraged when it’s raining or a stop got them greasy floors 😂 i just been in some hiking boots which isn’t the worst
I live in Atlanta and I’m interested in getting into food service have over 3 years experience all endorsements trying to see which company is the best to go with they all seem to have terminals in my area
Yeah right now with the influx of experienced drivers that have either been layed off or recently stopped being owner operators the pool of experience for these local companies to hire on their favorable terms. I would say try to get a warehouse selector/loader job.
Everyone wants a local job because otr is rediculous in regards to pay plus all the sacrifices you gotta make it doesn’t make sense. Might as well get a normal 9-5. That’s just my take on otr until I see a company paying well for the sacrifices
Also, it might be beneficial to have one of the bigger companies pay your way into cdl school, give them their time while getting the experience in return. Don’t worry about working for pennies because there is glory ahead. Get the experience. OTR is probably it easiest to get. This is my plan. We got this!
Its crazy. I have 9 years safe driving exp. I have yet to be called back by any food service job. I have no clue what they are even looking for in a candidates.
Hey can u comment on how to keep the trailer in temp while delivering stuff meant for the fridge. Or product in temp while delivering cuz open doors we know makes temp go up
Well the temp is obviously going to go up when the doors are open and it’s really no way around that. However, doing things like leaving the TK running & making sure the plastic curtains are down during deliveries if your trailer has them makes a difference. The only other option is to get faster unloading. Just my thoughts buddy
Question: Can you have two jobs as a Local driver? 1 being your Cdl job and the other being a non driving job at another company? I understand the 70 hour dot rule but I’m confused if that applies if you add the total hours of both jobs worked. My cdl position is hourly but we’re only working 45-50 per week and the part time gig I’m looking at is about 30 hours weekly. Is this allowed and Will this even show up somehow? I don’t plan on telling my trucking company. I’m not necessarily worried about company policy as much as I am DOT
Yes, you can have two jobs as a cdl driver in your scenario. I have a friend who’s a food service driver and works for Fed Ex part time as a package handler. It doesn’t impact your HOS. It’s two different jobs with only one needing to adhere to DOT REGULATIONS. With that said, hopefully you’re still able to get enough rest in between jobs so you’re not tired behind the wheel. The 10hr reset was put in place for a reason. Stay safe
Yessir!!! safety first and thanks for giving me the answer. The way I’m doing it is I’m only working the other job on my off days. My CDL job is only 4 days a week. I’ll probably never work both jobs the same day.
I do dry for DG , is food service a harder job ive been looking around to find something local but dont want a job thats harder than i have now lol. Has anyone here worked for both companies.
Whatever your own personal standards are that fit your goals is what you need to go with. If the money and schedule and the work required is cool with you, jump on it.
That’s a tough one champ. Simply because as a new driver if you do decide to wait it out in this market with so many people looking for jobs, who knows when the next offer will come? On the flip side if you do accept an offer from a job that may not be your first choice just remember that getting the driving experience is really the most important thing on your journey. If it makes sense for your situation then take it. Remember once you have that solid year along with the necessary endorsements depending on what you choose to do you’ll be good to go.
Try class b local jobs. Like a heavy equipment preventive maintenance tech. Holtz, United rentals, etc. I got linked up with a great company, great starting pay, benefits, quartley bonuses, and 5k sign on bonus. I applied to all those companies and had interviews age makes a huge difference. All beverage companies and food service want young blood.
i had more response from different employers when i had no experience but that was during covid. i applied to mclaine 9 months ago and i recently got a rejection email like wtf. i don't think its about experience anymore, but more about their convenience and a lot of times its ppl you know. i'm currently delivering fuel and total of 2 year trucking experience as a whole, but i'm about to reach my end. if you are new to this, you'll soon learn that favoritism runs rampant in this business. it may totally work out for you, it may not, but for me it's a disappointment. my past coworkers i contact with sometimes, they tell me they quit trucking and go back to doing taxi and uber. less stress and more money they tell me.
I'm a recent CDL graduate and can't even get a job, let alone a call back. The job market is so bad right now. If it's a struggle for you with 2 years of trucking experience, Imagine how bad it is for new drivers.
@@kevlarxv i hear you. it's just sad what's happening right now. also trucking is bad especially in fall and winter seasons. when i unload fuel at gas stations, ppl come up to me and tell me that they are struggling too. even someone who did OTR for years can't get a local job and now working at a retail making a minimum wage bc his family wants him to stay home more.
@@derrickbrown877 I would say just keep applying bro. I applied to other locations and got denied by all but the Charlotte one. I use to b a order selector at us foods for like 2 years too though so I think that helped me and I had another job driving box trucks where I delivered furniture and other stuff so they probably seen I could handle physical labor
If they give you the job take it. I had the opportunity about a year ago to train with them for a week in florida and then get the job but I turned it down. Now I wish I didn’t because I’m tryna get a local job almost a year of otr. Fuck otr lol
First off, congrats on getting an interview. Some don’t make it that far believe it or not. Just make a good first impression bro. Have a good attitude. Ask good questions that are important to you. Benefits? Explain pay structure? How long does it normally take to get a route? Etc.. Express to them that you really want the opportunity to begin your trucking career. Good luck 👍🏾
Usfoods will hire you! Where u located at Anthony. Drivers with cdl are prime right now..obviously with little experience u will need to gain that some. Usfoods in certain locations are desperate and will bring u on and train u for the job n both give u a cdl qith a 2 yr guarantee to stay.
6 months xp class a. I have all endorsements except passenger. Military vet with hon discharge. No lapses in my employment. I got told no by Reyes, us foods, pepsi, and Sysco and I had 6 different rejections with Sysco and reyes. The ads all say hiring with no xp. I spoke with every driver I’ve seen in my area. I’m white and no other employees I’ve seen are white so what am I doing wrong cept what I can’t change 😢😂 f it.
@@HeyArnoldGotAFootballHead no I’m saying 13/13 delivery drivers in my area were minorities, and the town is 54% white. I did see 1 white supervisor during the interview with us foods and another white sales guy (not delivery) with pepsi. Bruh I wish I had the power to stop it 😂 they don’t want us as drivers, too many hit it and quit it types gave us a reputation (and I’m talking people that left after 2 months for ex)
