Very helpful showing how to clear obstructions instead of just replace parts. This model was almost identical to mine and you showed the disassembly so well. One little piece of glass in the food chopper was my issue. You saved me a service call! Thanks!
I have no idea why I watched this interesting video until the end because I have no problem with my dishwasher. I agree with you about rinsing the dishes. Thanks.
Wow, all my friends (one who was a maytag repair man) all told me my circulation pump had gone. I came agross your video and bingo, it was the cutting assembly that was causing the issue. Thanks for saving me $900 on a new machine. Took me all of 20 minutes to fix. Cant wait to tell my husband. Thanks again!
Thanks a ton for taking time to make a solid video on this topic. You just saved me from buying a new dishwasher or at least having it looked at. Many thanks my friend!!
Our dishwasher sounded like an electric shaver : no surprise with the garbages I found near the pump. I followed this tutorial and cleaned it up, now it works like a brand new! Many thanks!
You have no idea how much your video is still helping out. Thank you so much for taking the time to walk us through it and for being so concise and to the point. Have a great day and stay safe. Victor
YOU are the best! I didn't find as many "treasures" as you, but I did find the culprit to the vibration noise; what looked like a rusty cap off of who-knows-what. Thank You!
Thanks for posting this video...my dishwasher was making this exact noise. Came across your video and was able to fix it by following your tutorial. Really appreciate people like you that put these videos together to help others.
Hint. When the door is open it becomes a big funnel for anything inadvertently knocked off the counter. Was looking at dishwashers at Lowes the other day and mentioned how some filters are difficult to access. The sales person didn't know they came with filters. He is my age 60's, and had the same model we were looking at. When I pulled out the filter he said he isn't concerned because he rinses everything clean before putting in the dishwasher. No energy/water conservation concerns there.
I have a Whirlpool dishwasher with a similar design to this one. It was making loud noises so I figured I would give this a go. Everything went fine until reassembly. Unlike yours, my small metal shopping propeller was in tact. I had a hell of a time trying to get it back in. I ended up breaking it off of that metal screen. I am washing a new load of dishes right now. However, the noise is still there.....
Thanks John, It could be that the bearings on your circulation motor are shot and making a whole lot of noise. I think replacing it with a new circulation pump should do the trick.
Thank you so much for this video. Mine was a Kitchen Aid, but had the same problem with loud noise. I followed your instructions and disassembled down to the sump and found that the shaft on the dishwasher chopper assembly had been sheared in half, apparently by some pieces of plastic debris that found itself down in that area and prevented rotation. Just ordered the chopper assembly online for about $7.50, instead of having to call the repairman for $100 or more, I'm sure. Also was able to do a complete cleaning, as you have shown.
Thank you for making this video. Used it to fix my GE, the parts were a bit different but was able to make sense of what needed to be done. A piece of bamboo skewer had made it through the filter, dam, and macerator! Took it out and the washer is good as new! You saved me a pile of money! Thanks again!!!

Mine is making same exact noise!!! I'm gonna do this. I think getting it apart is easy. Getting it back together seems daunting but I'll do it Thank you!!
Mine was sounding rough and vibrating the kitchen floor. I literally put a squirt of Dawn dish detergent in it and ran a high temp wash. I did this after removing the screen filter, bottom rack and bottom sprayer. In 10 minutes it was running clean. Might want to try that first before taking everything apart.
Thank you for posting this because my husband and step son ignore me when I say they shouldn't believe soap ads or product boxes that claim they break down food, none of them do. My dishwasher is currently loud like this and I pulled large pieces of water chestnut out along with end caps of a cutting board. But haven't done the tutorial because I think my husband should because he doesn't listen to me when I say don't put pieces food in the dishwasher. They let food dry on the plate and do not soak it off and remove it before putting them through the dishwasher.
good video. Watching dishwasher problem/preventive maintenance videos....food debris very often seems to be the cause of many problems. We give our dishes a good rinse.
Fantastic instructions! My dishwasher was making the exact same noise as the one in your video. There was a small round piece of metal that I pulled from the impeller basket. Put everything back together, noise was gone. Thanks for the help!

Thank you. Very helpful. Only part that was confusing to me...plastic nut on spray arm was not to come off spray arm...one hour later i figure it out. Now breaker back on & hoping 4the best. Many thanks.
@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance It took about an hour in total (Whirlpool), I had so much going on in there. Broken pieces of plastics, tangled pipe cleaner, paper, and of course just nasty build up. It worked great again and quiet after putting it all back together. I'll be running some cleaning tablets today when I get home. Thank you again for your video...
You, my friend, are so kind to record this and post it. This is almost my EXACT model of Frigidaire dishwasher, and it is making that EXACT noise. Dang. I just checked. I have a whole different set up under my bottom rack. grrrr
Awesome, I did this on a dishwasher that wasn't draining and had same problem and fixed it. Yet I came in here due to 'noisy' dishwasher, but it was working fine. All other vids simply talk about replacing part, I didn't think of chards or obstruction. Keep up the good work. You deserve the Rolex...but I'd hesitate hiring such help (but you get what you pay for).
Wow. I came to this video because my dishwasher was making a ton of noise suddenly.. I must admit I was laughing at all the stuff he pulled out.. Then I pulled out about the same amount of stuff. Crazy what was down there.. . Put it back together and no noise.. Great video. Thanks.
This video was particularly helpful since my problem was that the gear on the pumps motor wasn't properly engaging with the gear on the impeller since it was worn down. It wouldn't have occurred to me to remove the impeller and leave just the screen in there. You saved me from having to replace the whole pump.
I only found a few small random hard bits and the chopper looked fine, but cleaning it out fixed the problem. We thought there was a neighbour using a power washer outside, the noise was so loud. Thanks!
You should drive plastic screws by hand. First turning the screw backwards until you feel it fall into the existing threads, then forward. By just doing it where ever it happens to be, sometimes it will follow the existing thread, but often it creates a new one. After a few times doing that it weakens the plastic and the screw will strip out.
My metal screen had a tiny ball of ceramic from a bowl stuck in one of its holes. It was just a bit bigger than the hole, which was big enough for the one chopper blade to graze it.
Had the exact same noise that you had (I don't know if you call it grinding or droning or ???) on my 13 year old KitchenAid. Cleaned out the chopper/emaciator with the same amount of junk as you. When I ran a Normal cycle before I put the shelves in, no sound, but when I ran loaded both racks the sound reappeared. In the first minute of your video, what made you think it was the bearings on the main pump (which cause megabucks to fix)?
Thanks for doing a straigh-to-the-point video. funny thing on my Kenmore, which looks the same as your's: After I cleaned all the stuff out, including several large chunks of glass, my dishwasher is louder, which is what led me here. I'm thinking you're onto something about the pump bearing going out; it's just really rattley.
Excellent Video! I followed your steps and found some garbage that needed to be removed. However, wondering if I've made a mistake in the reassembly process. Now, the dishwasher will not start (Whirlpool Gold Series). The Sensing light is on, and the indicator display seems to just show lines rotating around the display and it will never start. Unfortunately, we can't locate a manual for this machine so have no idea what its trying to tell us. Have I made some error in reassembly, or is something else going on? Thanks!
I cleaned my pump area in the filter. I left the chopper blade in there. Should I have taken it out? And once you to take it out, can it be put it back in?
Thanks for the video. Mine makes a similar noise to yours. I disassembled and cleaned it as much as possible. Still noisy. Is this when you call a tech?! :-D
I did all of this and cleaned everything out. Thanks for the good explanations. It took us all day to take apart, clean and put back together. Unfortunately, it is still making a whining sustained noise around a Bnatural or C 5 (we're musical). Then the noise stops and starts up again. Maybe it's the motor? pump? Kenmore brand. Help?
@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance The dishes are sparkling clean now after cleaning it out, but the noise drone continues during the cycle immediately when we turn it on to wash, then stops intermittently. It seems connected to when the water comes in or is pumped in? It may be bearings, my husband thinks.
The food chopper does work, but it wears out over time, just like any other blade does. And obviously, if you have glass in there and other hard objects, it will likely destroy the chopper. But if it's just a few noodles, the chopper will take care of them just fine. I imagine you'd have much bigger problems if the chopper wasn't there to begin with.
2 years ago this lady I lived with thought the dishwasher had a built in garbage disposal, and today I get to watch her take it apart and suffer from not being too bright
I'm trying to fix my in-law's dishwasher. I have turned the water to the dishwasher off but I can't unplug the machine. The cord to the machine goes into the ground so I can't unplug it. If I'm only going into the machine to clean out the debris does the power to the machine need to be off? Is there a possibility of getting electrocuted?
Unfortunately this did not fix my Kenmore dishwasher. I cleaned it out but when I put it back together I still have the same noise. I think there is a problem with the motor. I found if I go underneath and hold the back part of the motor while it is running the noise goes away. There seems to be some looseness in the motor assembly.
What’s the (estimated) going rate for a technician to come out and perform this service? I’m going to try this - with so much more insight and confidence thanks to your video - wondering how much money you’ve saved us.
My dishwasher sounds like a construction zone. It's so loud.. sucks just bought my house to find out I have this appliance wasn't inspected properly and was under the impression everything worked
This is exactly how my Miele dishwasher sounds when filling. A while back it stopped filling altogether so I replaced the fill valve with a Frigidaire one, as per another of your videos. Which fixed the fill issue, so thank you for that! However, the loud noise persists. I haven't found anything for the Miele dishwashers regarding this type of noise during that part of the cycle. Do you have any idea what the issue might be? It washes fine, drains fine and doesn't show any faults, just the awful noise... Any help would be most appreciated!
@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance Thank you for your response! I wish that was the case! We have poor water pressure but we manage and it didn't seem to be an issue for the first 8 years we had the dishwasher. I am at a loss and don't want to replace the motor if that isn't the problem so I'll keep looking for a solution. I appreciate the help with troubleshooting. Thanks very much!
Hi Natasha, I would replace the fill valve once again. If the valves get either too low or too high of a pressure they won’t work well in the tend to spurt the water in.
None of that stuff was even food debris. You don't need to rinse your dishes off before putting them in, just don't put toothpicks, q-tips and shards of glass in the unit and it will run fine. You also need to replace that chopper, otherwise the screen will plug in a matter of weeks.
