The opening dogfight and Bo’s piloting during it gave me flashbacks to Battlestar Galactica, which was Katee Sackhoff’s first big role. She played a maverick fighter pilot in that (her ship in that was the BSG equivalent of an X-Wing). The brainwashing machine Pershing was strapped to reminded me a bit of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “Total Recall” and the New Republic’s attitude/overly bureaucratic nature/willingness to strap someone to such a dystopian machine made me think of “Brazil” (a dark comedy by one of the members of Monty Python)

13:15 There’s just something about that signature head tilt… I believe it’s Katee under that armor in every scene.

You ask all the right questions, i dont think this epsidoe was about answers but really just making youvquestion everything. Its supposed to muddy the waters, A LOT. Its like Andor but if you weren't supposed to have answers for another 5 years like most Star Wars

A fun little side trip that gives us a little insight about the "New" Republic .... This is where the fun begins 😊

So yeah, you would think that Bo-Katan wouldn't want to join the "religious zealots", but you have to keep in mind that she was exiled from her people and had her home destroyed so she had nothing left and no other choices but to join and become one with the other tribe. Also, Din obviously had a lot to do with it, which I'm sure opened her up to them more so.

Well I disagree with those that say that this episode didn't further the story at all, even if you just count the framing sequence. That said, I do feel that the Coruscant plot, while very relevant to the overall narrative, would have been better served splitting up into multiple episodes rather than dumping it all in one. Dumping it all into one episode was narratively jarring and took people out of the main story.

Yes! It was strange how we went from Bo and Mando to this side story that took up the whole episode. I kept waiting for it to tie back into whatever was going on with them but it didn't. I do see now that there was and will be a point for it.

At a minimum, they could have cut it at the part where the doctor walks out of his apartment, did the sequence with Djin going to the covert and proving that he was redeemed, then transitioned back to the doctor and Kane headed to the transport station and finished out the episode. This would have made the last scene of the episode be Kane taking a bite of the travel biscuit while watching the the doctor get his brain zapped, which, with the look on her face, would have made for a great dark ending to the episode.

this episode seems to depart from following Din Djarins adventures, something that wasn't well recieved by many people. Pesonally, this "detour" that fleshes out more of the Star Wars world in this time was more than welcome!

13:43 ... We see the Armorer add the "living water" to the tempering bath and there's a reaction. When the Armorer has forged something in the past she has done the same thing which made me think... either she has had a good amount of "living water" with her or that she has been back to Mandalore and replenished her stock.

Hello Tara, nice to see you!😊 When I first saw this, I thought they might have Doctor Pershing in some simulation to trick him. Everything just seemed to be off. Elia Kane set up Doctor Pershing, wiped his memory, and became more trustworthy to the good guys. That was pretty clever.😉 Great reactions to this unusual episode of The Mandalorian, Tara!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Mind blown? No Tara, more like mind-flayed! Many didn’t like this episode, but you ‘felt’ what it was supposed to do. From the first episode of The Mandalorian, we saw Imperial Remants on the fringes of the New Republic. We saw X-Wing pilots guarding those edges. Now you don’t feel so secure. Maybe the NR can’t be trusted. Without the common enemy (the Empire) will the different factions within the NR stay together? Surely Imperial Remants, or even Imperial sympathizers, spies, infiltrators… the Mandalorian world-building…I feared for our heroes. The Mandalorians are on their own.

This episode is basically showing the New Republic is the Empire 2.0. The NR is making the same mistakes as the old one, just as Luke’s New Jedi Order is making the same mistakes also.

Taungsdays, am I right?: The Taung were the original Mandalorians. Taung and humans both originated on Coruscant. Taung, being a warrior culture, they eventually fought the humans for control of the planet and lost. They took their remaining population onto ships and migrated to another planet. When they landed, their leader's name was Mand'alor. After he led them in conquering the planet, they changed the name of their people to "the people of Mand'alor," or Mandalorians. They also named the planet after him. They soon took up the practice of adopting war orphans who impressed them with their spirit to help maintain their numbers. They didn't really care who the biological parent of their children was, and considered the people who raised a child to be their parents. Eventually, the Taung population of Mandalorians died out through slow war attrition, but their culture lived on through those who joined or were adopted into the culture. While humans are the majority of the population, there are no rules against any species becoming Mandalorian. Disney hasn't shown any non humans as full members of the culture (Grogu doesn't count until he does a ceremony to be fully adopted), but the computer game Star Wars The Old Republic has shown Twi lek Mandalorians. They even showed a Wookiee Mandalorian.

Please note that the history of the Taung depicted in this comment is purely legend, and may not reflect what is true at all. the Taung were a sentient species that lived on Coruscant, that much is true.

Dr Pershing keeps touching his ear as a nervous tic. But he didn't lose his hearing in an explosion. He was shot in that ear near the end of last season by Cara Dune to kill an Imperial Remnant keeping him hostage.
@thatnerdtara
@thatnerdtara 11 дней назад
You're right - it was a gunshot - still I thought maybe whatever happened at that moment with Cara Dune and the Imperial was why his ear was messed up
@VanArchon
@VanArchon 11 дней назад
Not only that, but he lost a significant portion of his upper ear to that shot. Part of why he's touching it is because it's cloned tissue.

If you freeze frame the shot where the armorer pours the water into the forge you'll see Mauls image in the water.

@@thatnerdtaraThis was My favorite episode of the entire series! I have to say, the New Republic sure is making some terrible mistakes so far: having individual names replaced by alpha-numerical designations, just like the Empire did with it's Stormtrooper Corps. Having an Amnesty Program that can be easily infiltrated with only token therapy sessions in the form of droids, not sentients and which seem incapable to detect lies or even signs of physical ticks that underline a deeper psychological issue! I know that due to the sheer number of Amnesty Officers, manpower to supervise These individuals with an actual person will be almost impossible: there's too many of Them! Let me know what You think.
@alessiocapone9816
@alessiocapone9816 11 дней назад
@@thatnerdtaraAlso, there seems to be a purge on-going regarding anything remotly imperial in origin, regardless of it's potential usage in administration, technolgy and even scientific in nature. The New Republic seems so obsessed with the idea of a clean slate that even their Military got defunded before the Empire was even defeated! The Navy will eventually be reduced by 90% of it's original force during the height of the Galactic Civil War. It's Armies were demobilised and spread out across regional and planetary defense forces as the Galactic Republic had done prior to the Clone Wars. This however, left eveybody underfunded, as reasources were fewer in-between these individual groups and Who lacked a shared source to draw apon. Everything from manpower to equipment to supplies and even intelligence sources was dependant on the amount of credits a Sector or a Planet could salvage, with the poorer, more vulnerable of these two groups having the most trouble.

@thatnerdtara Watch the scene where she pours the water into the cooling water for the forge. You'll see if you play it slow or go frame by frame the image of Maul's face in the water. I think they were toying with the idea of having Maul still being the owner of the dark saber, & bringing him back somehow, but I doubt that's happening. Just a small tidbit.

@@thatnerdtara Very doubtful, I went over that scene a dozen times frame by frame and saw no such thing. It's more likely a case of pareidolia.

This is my least favorite episode of the series. While I usually appreciate a nice tangent in storytelling this was done really badly. Three seasons in and we've never really spent much time following other characters then, in the middle of this episode, we go off and spend a solid 30 minutes (or more) with two minor characters that we barely know and that affect the overall plot in no real way. It almost seemed like someone in production accidentally stuck a huge section of another show in the middle of this episode then aired it without realizing. Thankfully, we'll get back to our "regularly-scheduled program" after this.

It's extremely obvious what's happening. She pretended to help him while creating a situation to get his memory wiped. Was that REALLY hard to follow somehow?!? Dr. Pershing was a loose end for the Empire and for information about cloning. Had they not neutralized him, The New Republic would have eventually found out about The Empire's future plans and/or cloning science through him. It completely moved the story along on the Imperial side, and of course we can't know yet if Dr. Perishing's story is over yet or not, so nothing had been wasted.

@thatnerdtara Really good. They are doing the same thing with the Acolyte. It's not good, but they are killing off the only interesting characters. It would have been great if they were going to track the Dr's storyline somehow. This season was really disjointed. I have a feeling the higher ups meddled with what Favreau was trying to do. They should not have done all of these other shows & thrown more money & episodes into Mando. Favreau really knows how to write. They also need to get more actors like him, that can actually act.
