i think people who don't play instruments don't understand how athletic this actually is. usually with wind instruments you put all your breath into playing, they're dancing while still playing, and also without sheet music, they had to memorise everything. this is really, really impressive.

I've been in a school corps/band, our school has not attempted dancing while marching, so by the sight of this I'm just really impressed. I'm just woahh that must have taken a lot of practising. as a former clarinet player I can for sure say that they're way better.

Kyoto Tachibana High School is not a school specializing in music, but a normal three-year private high school (aged 16-18). The brass band club is an after-school club activity that any student can join. 京都橘高等学校は、音楽に特化した学校ではなく普通の3年制私立高等学校(年齢は16歳~18歳)です。吹奏楽部は、学生なら誰でも入部できる放課後に活動するクラブ活動です。

114th class section leader Comare is a powerhouse. Because there were no percussionists in 113th class, Comare has the unique distinction of being in charge of drums in both her second and third years. (For a short time at the start of school year, before 115th percussionists were trained up, it was only Comare and Chippi.) As section leader, she guided woodwind, brass, and percussion. Although her easy confidence and solid performances don't show it, she has stated in interviews that she felt a large gap between her own skills and that of her 112th class senpai. And she felt the weight of responsibility upon her. Chippi may be more well known for her exuberance, but Comare deserves a lot of respect for maintaining the quality of the percussion section.

@bellesogne

What you see here is due to Japanese family and school culture. Learning a musical instrumental has been a popular early childhood activity that Japanese parents provide their children. Chippi, the xylophone player, for example, has played piano singe age 3. As for school, all Japanese children participate in an after-school club activity of their choosing from elementary school through high school. Popular club activities are baseball, volleyball, calligraphy, and marching band. Although KT SHS has garnered a lot of international fame, most Japanese junior and senior high schools field very respectable bands. Matsue CHS, Seika GHS, Mito GHS, Toho, Waseda Setsuryo, and Izumo BHS are just a few that you can find on YT.

When asked what was their most challenging parade, most band members during this time point to Garasha Festival 2016. That was an hour-long route that they had not prepared for because the parade route changed at the last minute. So they had to perform their normal 22-25 minute set roughly three times in succession. While 2018 Rose was longer in duration, the Marching Composition Staff had arranged their set to account for the duration, interspersing low intensity musical pieces in between their signature numbers.

For me, the limit for RU-vid video length is 8 to 9 minutes. I tend to skip videos that are longer than that. When RU-vid recommended this video to me, it was 27 minutes long, so I watched it thinking that I would probably end up skipping along again, but the result was completely different. Surprisingly, I didn't miss a single second of the entire 27 minutes and watched it in no time. I've watched it over and over again since then. There are many other videos of this band on RU-vid, some of which are over an hour long. I end up watching all of those videos on a daily basis without getting tired of them. i think it's the educational values in Japan, honestly. education is *everything* there, and because of that, discipline and adaptability are skills that are required to succeed. you also have to be driven, and they instill these values into their students at a very young age. in America, there's a frighteningly large amount of students who put in minimal effort, and some students just stop altogether, or even worse they just drop out. there's also a lack of respect and discipline in American education. I'm sure American children could have very promising results as well but they're lacking all of those things and lacking good instructors as well

I play the drums in an Austrian 🇦🇹 brass band. If only the drums play when the band is marching we call it a „Fußmarsch“ it’s pretty basic with the bass drum playing almost only on each even beat. I have never heard anything like this part at 1:48 it’s just so insanely awesome, the complexity of the rhythm, the bass drum playing 16th notes, the triads.. I just can’t stop listening to this part. Also the girl on the xylophone is God tier. Much love to Japan ❤ 🇯🇵

Being an American and a marching band lover I believe I’ve seen it all when it comes to marching bands. I was impressed with programs such as Ohio State University to some of the top HBCU programs such as North Carolina A&T and Jackson State. And of course, DCI bands such as the Blue Devils always put on fantastic shows. Even some of our elite high school marching bands such as Carmel, Avon, and Broken Arrow just to name a few are very impressive as well. But then I discovered the Kyoto Tachibana Senior High School Marching Band a few years ago and they just totally blew my mind away. They are the absolute complete total package. I am just so happy I found them and it seems like they are finally getting the recognition that they deserve.
@chfunnyone1

@Kotaro1326
@Kotaro1326 5 лет назад
chfunnyone1, All drum corps are marching bands but not all marching bands are drum corps...and that’s not my definition. It’s DCI’s definition itself. But that’s besides the point. Instead of insulting my intelligence, why don’t you show me or direct me to something that wows me like Tachibana, something that I’ve never seen before. I think RU-vid is a great platform for that. I’ve been to many marching band shows in my life, including those big ones in Indianapolis and I’ve spent a lot of time in RU-vid searching for great marching bands and none even comes close to wowing me than Tachibana.

maybe it's because you don't know the bands here in brazil that play a rythm called "frevo" in carnival... they're not a marching band but are amazing!!!

I myself played Clarinet and Sax in an Orchestra, and from my experience wind instruments must be some of the unforgiving instruments under these circumstances. The tone you produces greatly depends on your breathing, hell some of the higher notes on these instruments are achieved by doubling the amount of air you put into the instrument and therefore going up in pitch. what I m trying to say is: HOW the hell can they play this perfect whilst doing some crazy movements. If you are low on breath whilst playing a trombone, you are unable to reach any higher pitched tone.... crazy amount of respect for these students who have to undergone some crazy training to have that amount of stamina, precision and sounding so freakin clean.

I don't play musical instruments so kinda curious how much does the trombone and that big drum thing weigh? Bcs they made it seem like it's easy to carry around.
@simonengel9767
@simonengel9767 5 лет назад
depends, I would assume that most of their smaller instruments are metal, because the sound is very clean and that's hard to achieve with plastic. I would believe, that the bigger instruments are plastic but can't say for sure. Therefore with plastic even trombones weight only up to 3kg but with Metal it increases drastically, depending if all parts are metal and which kind is used. For drums i don't know, but i would assume those don't weight too much.

I don't have words for this. I've heard HS bands but this is beyond anything I've heard before. The musical selections, arrangements, and precision in choreography are spectacular. I can't imagine the dedication, energy, and practice these performances take. Simply amazing. and professional.

I hear that the students in charge of the club carry out the selection of songs to be played, the composition of the songs, and the choreography of the dances. The music adviser teacher will help them with the arrangement of the songs they play. It's surprising that students can do so much in regular high school after-school club activities.

It's important to understand this a high school that specializes in music and the reason kids go to that school is to join the marching band. There really isn't any equivalent in the United States. Major cities in the US will have music and art-focused high schools, but those schools focus on concert music and rarely, if at all, do any marching band work. Marching bands in the US are much more local and only practice during fall for football season. To show my point I'll explain what the US would have to do to match this high school. You would take a similar population area such as Minneapolis-St Paul and form a marching band out of all the best players in the metropolitan area. Those players would then spend multiple hours each day practicing for marching band all year long. That is what it would take to match this band. The US doesn't see this kind of filtering and dedication to practice until a person gets to College or if they perform in Drum Corps International (DCI). Even then, Colleges and DCI only practice marching band on a seasonal basis, so a Japanese High School would practice more than the top marching bands in the US.

It is just unbelievable that they are so very professional in their sound and coordination. I'm just feeling thrilled all over listening to them play. Not a single note out of place. And the choreography. is also outstanding. WOW! HOORAY TO THEM!!!!

I’ve played the flute in middle school and high school, and though it was fun to play, it wasn’t easy. You need a lot of air, breath control, and fast fingers. Sitting and playing can be pretty tasking, but these girls are walking, jumping, twirling, etc. as if its nothing. Like bruh, they’re playing runs like a boss while bobbing their heads up and down! 🤯 Props to them!! The flautists (and all the other musicians in the band of course!) are so talented! The fact that they memorized 27 min of music is just insane on its own. Japan never fails to amaze me!!

I know how is feels! Im in middle school right at this moment and Im in Honor Band, and flute is probably the hardest and challenging instruments of all - But i got the hang of it and its a very pretty-sounding. But like o m g. .i can dance while playing my instrument like that! (Well maybe if I tried..) but there performance was out of this world!
