入りくんだ湾は、平地と違って押し寄せてきた波は拡散することが出来ず、狭い奥へと進むため、波高は相対的に上昇する。 従って津波の高さが平地で10mなら、入りくんだ湾では2〜30mに達してもおかしくない。

The water surges in until the 0316 mark then draws back, at 6mins the second wave hits & the power it has to overtop the outgoing & surge forward is just mind blowing...We think of water as soft, but it has a brut force that is unreal and obviously unstoppable. 🧡🙏🧡 Japan.

Yes, that’s true, yet the second wave was not as large as the first. The second wave was high enough to overtop the receding water from the first wave, but did not reach the same level as the wet water mark on the high (railroad?) bridge pylons further up the inlet. (at 6:58 )

One of the more archetypal tsunami vids from 3/11. Most of the videos show a slow and gradual escalation. This one is a high wall of clear water that crashes into a peaceful harbor, unleashing sudden, high-speed chaos.
@kellwood1404
@kellwood1404 3 года назад
There’s one on river in foreground and tsunami overtopping the trees. Within 20km of Fukushima nuke plant. It was spectacular. There was one on a marine port which was on the far side of east coast, the waves came towards you, took out tons of trees. It was so tall, over the trees. I think the east coast one was quite well videoed. The one on coastline + river with the water that moved up like an elevator, and then receded from river was horrifying, trees taken away, waterfalls of huge height back from river. There was an inn, and other structures, and bus on far side. Part of the structures were totalled. I think the inn and bus were okay. I don’t t know what is worse, getting a warning or in 2004 Boxing Day tsunami not getting a warning. Myanmar initially denied casualties, took them a few weeks to say 1000 died. Hah, just googled it. It’s officially under 100 people.

I found myself fearing for everyone along the course of that river as I saw the power and volume of the incoming waters. I wondered too, if after the waters receded that survivors began searching amongst the debris field, unaware that the second wave was coming, and I feared for them, too. Unfortunately, the only certainty is that there will be further earthquakes and tsunamis...

Now that was a huge tsunami, but people will look at the wave and think it was a small tsunami...but it all depends on the topography of the seafloor that the incoming tsunami is inundating. If the seafloor there was higher up that would of been a huge breaking wave, but it's not usually a huge breaking wave, it's just an incredible surge of incoming water.

There’s the one where river was overtopping the wall eventually, cameraman moving rapidly up to 2nd or 3rd floor of school. It covered the school ground, took out pedestrian bridge over river. The students etc survived. One camera guy was able to get onto tree on the far right of video. He’s in this video for a second. This guy was videotaping too and survived.

pinkdipi because it hopped over berms that acted as dams and it filled up flat areas behind it. The shore is sloped towards the ocean so it would be like dumping water down a hill that led to a lake.
@MendTheWorld
@MendTheWorld 2 года назад
This was a very restricted and small size inlet. Therefore the tsunami very quickly filled the available volume before receding. A broader inlet with a flatter gradient would have allowed a much greater volume of water to enter, which would have taken less time to dissipate. Also, not knowing where this location is on the coast, the tsunami might not have been quite as high amplitude as elsewhere. The breaking wave, however, was very impressive.
