THUY Three years I've been away I kept faith we would meet ENGINEER See, I found her for you THUY You, out in the street. ENGINEER Out, get out! THUY I knew in time faith would weave a design / tying your life and mine into one Each day I'd wait like a soldier must wait trusting victory to come with the sun After the fight in the still of the night I would picture my bride, bright as jade You'll be my wife We will build a new life And fulfill the vow our fathers made KIM My father's vow can't be honor this way And I pray in my heart he'll forgive What you want now are some words I can't say If I lied to you how could I live? THUY Don't say anymore! Not a word! You will change You will learn Look at me Don't decide too soon
Through watching this I used to think Thuy was like Gaston, possessive and demanding and just downright annoying; forcing her and demanding she change and stuff, but Kwangho's portrayal, with expressions that just show how devastated he is, actually made me feel sorry for Thuy. I realized that here was a young guy who saw things that can't be spoken about and the dirties of war in his own country, grew around it and yearned for a connection to a home that only Kim, who he's had beside him forever and was always that "normal", could offer. Suddenly Thuy became really small and like a child to me, and I realized he was just another victim of the war and it was more about having someone to belong to over a "crush" that I always assumed he had for Kim. The war literally took everything from him and he must think his years away was what made her change, even if that's not the case, and I just pity him.
officialkpopfan excellent observation! Ive been listening to MS for almost 15 years and one of the undercurrent themes ive always found is that in war, no one really wins and there are loses no matter the side.
Kwan Ho Hong gives a different Thuy perspective. I guess it's safe to say you can't say the same thing with other Thuys. And this Thuy is breaking my heart. The look in his face @1:13 😢😢😢😢
I like Kwang Ho's interpretation of Thuy, his first lines seemed he loved her, really. And not so obsessive like the previous Thuy's. But he loses his mind after..
Kwang-Ho Hong's portrayal of Thuy is so different than the others. Thuy was written to be unlikable, despicable. However Kwang-Ho made him pitiful. I felt sorry for him and found myself wishing that Kim would choose him during the moments he appeared until I remembered how unhealthy that would be. Awesome portrayal.
The other Thuy's were good and they were part of the play. Enter Hong Kwang Ho and for me he gave Miss Saigon a flavor you cannot taste anywhere. I didn't even bother googling the other Thuy actors. I did it with Kwang Ho whose performance was, yes, stunning.
Same here. He brings a certain rawness to the character - a certain human element and a certain desperation. Just today I was seeing this version of Thuy in comparison to another one. In the other one, Thuy was aggressive and full of hate. It felt like he want to kill the child ONLY because he saw the enemy and almost like revenge. This Thuy seems desperate and afraid. His facial expressions and the emotions tell me that it's not his first choice but he feels that it's his only choice to protect himself and Kim. Of course this does not justify anything. Also, for me, what really drives it home is when he grabs the gun and tells her to shoot him. I don't know but it feels so desperate as if he is trying to make her see something else.
I never watch Miss Saigon before, and I only Hee Kwang Ho from Death Note because he did amazing there. and just from this short clip, I really feel for him.
Ive been watching this so many times and there are points where I have to pause to collect myself because Thuy is this almost desperate soldier who's just looking for some normalcy and he thought he could find it with Kim but no :(
I did that too. His performance feels like there is a simultaneous explanation in your heart that you understand clearly in his performance what he is conveying.
He loves her, so much so that he is driven mad by it. He is so fueled by his passion and being denied what he’s always wanted that he is willing to murder her child for them to be together. I will always love this interpretation of Thuy. The cruel, cold tyrant version is not who he really is, I feel.
With Kwang-ho's portrayal, you can feel his longing. At 0:32, he's the only Thuy who made that song sound like a real proposal. And you'll feel his pain when Kim rejected him. I'm a fan because of this portrayal.
PLUS THE WAY HE CLOSE HIS EYES WHEN KIM WAS BEING BEATEN UP BY THE SOLDIER THEN BREAKS AND COMMAND THEM TO STOP AND LEAVE, It made me feel that Thuy Really loves kim and not just because of the promise that their fathers did.
@@Waender YES AND ALSO THE FACT THAT HE EVEN BROUGHT SOLDIERS WITH HIM IN HIS SEARCH FOR KIM. HE WAS READY TO TURN THE PLACE UPSIDE DOWN TO FIND HER. Sorry for caps but I'm so passionate about this ughhh EDIT: ALSO WE CAN'T FORGET THAT HE STILL WANTED HER DESPITE HER BEING A POOR, STARVING PEASANT WHO HAD RELATIONS WITH AN AMERICAN
