The Sinnoh Region in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl is based on a real part of Japan, Hokkaido. Hokkaido is a beautiful region filled with nature and beauty, as well as a lot of culture and history with the Ainu people; those indigenous to the land. All that makes it the perfect island for a Pokémon Region. But Game Freak did more than just look at their map. Every city, from Jubilife to Sunnyshore, is based on a real city. Most buildings within those cities have a real counterpart. Every Lake Guardian's Lake and every mountain is real, and even many of the routes in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have landmarks with exact counterparts in the real world. In a few cases, even the number of bridges along a route matches the number of bridges near the highway that connects the two relevant cities. And this is just one of many examples. This is the Sinnoh Region Explained! Region VS Reality! I hope you enjoy this video. If you did, please consider supporting us on Patreon or picking up some merch at our merch store!

Ooh, this is sick! 10/10 new series concept! Tall order, but one of these for the Ultra Beast's homeworlds would be sick. As in, drawing the closest comparisons in our known universe and how they could form, or something. I've always loved those places, especially Ultra Deep Sea and Ultra Plant.

If I remember correctly, the Pokémon Ranger regions of Fiore and Almia are geographically based on that cut-off Southern tip of Hokkaido (which is why those games send Manaphy eggs to the Sinnoh games, the nearest main region).
@thepsyshyster8243
@thepsyshyster8243 2 года назад
Almia is indeed based on primarily on the area south of where Canalave is, with the desert area being on the main island of Japan. Fiore, however, is based on areas west of Kansai, which is the part of Japan Johto is based on. And though it wasn't mentioned, Oblivia is based on a very small group of islands north of Kansai.

I LOVE how incredibly accurate and inspired the Sinnoh map was with Hokkaido, like the few things that didn't perfectly align to one singular aspect were usually just a flawless combination of the possible differing options, and the layout of the map itself aligns SO well that it's just incredible how much effort they put into making sure the deliberate details came across!

I just realized something about Cranidos and Shieldon. Yubari was a mining town for coal and iron. Fossil mons are brought back...well, from Fossils, so of course they're Rock-type (especially since they were mined up!) Coal is a rock-like substance, meaning Cranidos is a pure Rock-type. Iron is a metallic substance, so Shieldon is part Steel-type! I could be overthinking this but idc lol

I could easily be wrong, but I could see Sinnoh having such strong ties to real-world locations as being caused by GF knowing they were going to go more global after gen 4. Sort of a last hurrah / love letter to the regions based in Japan. Or maybe this level of detail is common before, after, or both before and after globalizing pokemon regions. Definitely an interest video/series idea! I'd love to see more

Once Legends Arceus is out, you should revisit Sinnoh... I mean Hisui and see how it matches up then, although I suppose you'd have to go digging through a lot of documents from the Meiji era for a proper matchup.
@candyneige6609

Hisui is the Mystery Dungeon equivalent of Sinnoh from the mainline games since the game that features the region, Pokémon Legends Arceus, is a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game.

@candyneige6609
@candyneige6609 2 года назад
@@maganhassan2627 In Pokémon Legends Arceus, you play as a Pokémon, a human who got turned into a Pokémon to be exact, which is crucial since, as a former human, you can remember that you were a human, but more importantly, as a Pokémon, you can get attacked by other Pokémon. This description fits perfectly well with other Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games, hence, Pokémon Legends Arceus is a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game.

Woah. That's an amazing level of detail, I never knew or even expected this level of fidelity. And it's also very impressive that you found this just using google maps and what online resources were in English (I've been in my own hell of researching Japan and not being able to use a majority of sources because I can't read them). It would be amazing to see more videos like this, although I imagine doing one for Ahola, Galar, or Unova would be easier. Let's hope Legends Arceus keeps that up (I know people have been able to play an emulated version of the game for like a week, but no spoilers please) with a Pokemon-ified version of history where the Galaxy Expedition team turns out to be the bad guys (suprise suprise) who do some E-rated colonialism. Not like murder or anything horrific. Just an evil plan of disrupting the harmony between humans and Pokemon and forcing the Diamond and Pearl clans to give up their culture. Would be kind of a dark twist that even if they don't say it in game, the fact Sinnoh has a similar culture to the previous 3 regions means they do win in the end.
