This is my favorite horror film. What they did on the budget and the fact that the mask is just a deformed William Shatner mask from Star Trek, just awesome!

The father of all slasher films. I had the chance to see this at a Drive In theater a few years ago and it was amazing seeing it on screen.

I remember watching the censored version on TV for years as a kid, creepy stuff. This and the (much maligned in it's time) third one, are my favorite of the franchise. I hope you are feeling better and getting the answers you need. Happy Season of the Witch!

I agree with everything you said about the Halloween🎃 franchise. Although I have seen them all, the first few do it for me.... And enen though it came out in 1978, I didn't see it until 1979 at the drive-in when I was 13. 🎃

To talk a bit more about cops in the suburbs of the US... Usually suburbs are quiet enough that cops pay attention to anything going on. It's in the big cities where they give less of a shit because there's such a high volume of calls. And to elaborate on The Thing: The original film is a black & white movie called The Thing From Another Planet which is one of John Carpenter's absolute favorite films. He was honored to remake it, so he decided to follow the original short story Who Goes There? instead. Speaking of SCREAM... The guy who played Dewey in them is also in Bone Tomahawk. Which also stars Kurt Russell. It's about a sheriff and his posse vs a tribe of cannibalistic troglodytes in cowboy setting. Definitely has some of the best cowboy action gun detail I've seen in any movie ever, too. The director (S. Craig Zahler) is a book author and musician and huge D&D nerd, so Bone Tomahawk is heavily influenced by a lot of things his D&D group has done in game. Also, Drew Barrymore has a super high reputation in the world of bodyguarding. She genuinely appreciates the people who work her security and if you get injured protecting her, she will cover all your medical expenses.

Ohh. I need to watch bone tomahawk for sure then! I didn't know that about drew that's so lovely I love her even more now

I would say Black Christmas was the one that codifed the tropes and bob clarke was friends with carpenter and they worked on a script together, before he did halloween. carpenter polished tropes

I had been watching John Carpenter movies for years growing up in the 80s and 90s so thought I would give this a shot around 2000. It's become my favorite Slasher franchise and I've watched Behind-The-Scenes videos for each movie. I agree that Rob Zombie's first Halloween film is very well done but the 2nd truly goes off the rails at times. My favorites are 1, 2 and 4 😊

Skele, omg I can't believe I forgot to mention this one movie and it's spook month too! There's a film from 1988 called "Night of the Demons." This film had a cult following and was three films. the first film poster was literally put up every year in october during the era of video rental stores ( How I miss those days) it had a famous slogan in one of the trailers and the original poster " Your're invited to a halloween party, Freddy and Jason were too scared to come, but you'll still have one hell of a good time" I wanted to recommend for a future watch and it also made history by introducing a female protagonist, and for a short time was up in ranks with freddy, jason, michael and all of them.....however, the 2009 remake killed any hopes of a revival. I strongly suggest the 1988 Night of The Demons it's a great horror film, i recommend part 2 and part 3 and the opening, girl your'e going to loer the opening credits the art is amazing!

@skeletalk 11 месяцев назад
I've never heard of this! Going on the list! Sounds like my kinda thing omg! Will go into it completely blind, thank you for the recommendations. We need more big female protags for sure. Would you say to watch part one as well and in order then? Thank you! 💖💖💖

@@skeletalk i would watch part one first and definitely in order, because out of order it will definitely spoil part one. you're going to love the artwork at the opening credits. a lot of people dont like watching the credits and i think the directer knew that so he did something to make the opening credits very fun

Some Halloween movies are very gory and brutal depending on which timeline and series of movies. The first couple weren't but later on Curse onward got a bit more gory and brutal.

Hi Katie enjoyed your re-watch of this iconic film but have to say its not the first slasher film of the 70's, there were such films as Silent Night, Bloody Night released November 17th 1972, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Black Christmas both released October 11th in 1974, its just the one that most people associate with being the first as it popularised most of the tropes that we see in later slasher films such as Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street which is my favourite slasher film, it also ushered in the golden age of slasher films which was from 1978-1984, Also I'd like to recommend Black Christmas for your spooky reactions, and looking forward to seeing what you think of American Werewolf, also another werewolf film you might like is a British comedy called Dog Soldiers won't tell you what its about but its a gem of a horror film with comedy elements.

I've not seen silent night bloody night or black Christmas I'll be watching those over December! I do like Texas but I find that while the first film is fantastic it wasnt given as much love as it deserved through the series and I really didn't like the last one. Need to check out dog soldiers too!

As much as I like the Halloween franchise, and I love the theme song... and I love HALLOWEEN (the holiday) I personally feel this movie is overrated. But then again it was a movie for it's time.

I really do love this film, and how there is so much we don't know that is never answered. Here's something I'd like your opinion on (and anyone else in the comments): For years I was bothered by the first kill (Michael's sister, Judith). I always thought her screams were more orgasmic than scared or pained. I chalked it up to bad acting. But on my last viewing, it occurred to me that we are literally seeing (and hearing) the kill through Michael's eyes/ears. So from the standpoint of the 'unreliable narrator,' what we are actually hearing is Michael's interpretation of her screams, and not her actual screams--i.e. he sees his act of 'penetration' as sexually pleasurable to his sister. I mean we knew he was messed up but... yeesh
@skeletalk

There are some cut scenes I believe of when myers following Laurie and it has the same vibe and maybe some others. I don't think it's unintentional. My friend thought that the first scene had more going on than we thought but who knows

Dang Katie, you scared me at the beginning! =O ;P XD Thought his name would be Mr. Bones or something =P (There is a DC-character called that and he is literally a talking skeleton, and he's the head of a secret organisation, can't remember If it was Argus or Checkmate. Gotta love comics, right?! XD ;) Michael Myers and seeing that knife makes me think of the 6th Halloween movie The Curse of Michael Myers, which was not good, but the producer's cut of it was decent. Halloween Kills I actually like, but the biggest flaw was how dumb every character acted and I'm sorry, but I did not like Halloween Ends, the whole movie was so dumb and they basically used the Friday the 13th part 5 formula in their plot, lol! Ends was the worst in the whole 2nd requel trilogy. The 1st Rob Zombie movie was ok, but I would have liked it better If it was its own movie and not a remake, it makes me wanna go back to John Carpenter's original classic because that one was so much better! The 2nd movie is a mess and the worst movie Zombie has made as a director. I actually do really like Halloween 3: Season of the Witch, not at first, but over the years I did realized that it's actually an underrated 80's horror gem. Some of us know the reason why it's different and If you just ignore the Halloween name and connection in name, you might either actually like or don't like it. Haddonfield is not a real place, it was shot in L.A. so they had to bring in autumn leaves and clean it up after every shoot, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee were originally considered as Dr. Loomis but both of them turned it down, but Lee did regret doing that after watching the movie and the mask was originally a William Shatner Captain Kirk mask that they remade and thus it was turned into the Michael Myers mask. They did it because they couldn't afford a more fancier mask and I believe they had another one, a clown mask, but they went with the remade Captain Kirk mask because it looked so spooky and hollow =) Here's another John Carpenter movie I hope you react to someday; They Live =) It's actually a really great social commentary movie about different classes in our society. I have actually dressed up as the main character played by Roddy Piper - sunglasses, jeans, a pretty identical shirt, a mullet wig in the same hair color and an unloaded pellet gun =)
@skeletalk
@skeletalk 11 месяцев назад
Sorry for spooking ya! It was originally skully (skele and skully 😂) Imagine Lee in this omg, I do like Loomis' actor but I just absolutely love Lee he wouldve been awesome. The shatner mask just doubles down on my idea that simple horror is the most effective really. Not heard of They Live! Thank you 💙

@@skeletalk It's ok, tis the season 😉🙂 Haha, nice! 😂 Oh yeah, Lee would have been great indeed, but Donald Pleasence did make the character iconic & it also made him more well known.
