Resonance and Presence are like bass and treble tone controls after the pre-amp stage. So saying you're cutting low end, then saying it sounds thin, then adding resonance, is adding low end back in. Although the bass and resonance controls have a subtly different effect on the overall EQ.

@@ThePremixPilotI’m not a huge Mesa fan(since I don’t play much metal), but I gotta say, I had a 4x12 Mesa cab with the closed back/sliding half open back, and that thing sounded really incredible. I was using an old 72’ moded fender bassman with it, and a sovtek at one point, and it worked really well. Unfortunately the thing was a beast. Super heavy and way too oversized to fit in any vehicle except a van or a truck. Haha

Your 6505 tone is absolutely second to none. The absolute best metal tones I've ever heard. The perfect mixture of a chunky rhythm with a searing lead tone. I've always envied that tone!

See I love that the 6505 sounds good without a boost, but with me I just love that tight bite you get from pushing It with a tube screamer

6505+ sounds boosted from the factory since it has a huge low cut going into the preamp. it sounds like a 6505 with tubescreamer, but you can’t turn it off so it has a very limited application

Facts, all facts. That bass knob, from my experience, seems to peak around that main area a bass will live, usually around 200-300hz, but it varies from amp to amp. You cut more of that bass it gives the bass room to exist in that 200-300hz and you bring up the resonance to bring in those 80-100hz frequencies that make the guitar sound meaty without taking up where the bass is suppose to be. (Kick drums too, cut 250-ish and boost 100hz.) While that is fine, there are two sides to that coin. If you have no 200-300hz in your guitar, then your bass is going to stick out like a sore thumb. You ideally want the guitar and bass to blend a little to get a huge sound. That bass is there to make your guitars sound huge. What I find is just having enough bass in my guitars that it dips a little into where the bass is and the bass then also cranks some 2k-4k and some mild distortion to also reach up to the guitars domain and they both blend together nicely. This is also more so talk from recording/mixing stuff and also all subjective, but it's an interesting challenge to tackle.

And let me tell you Robs tone is massive live when he played in the indoors venue when he palm mutes you can feel the presence and almost a force or pressure rob is why I purchased a 6505+ chimaria stole the show they play so tight and rob really can hit those pinched harmonics if chimaria ever tours again or does any shows with rob please don't miss it they put so much energy into their performance !

This is kind of like what I learned about adding mids to my bass sound when playing with a full band. So early on when I would watch our practice videos I noticed I couldn't hear a lot of my mid-frequency basslines and mainly because I didn't have any meds I always like a nice thick sound with the meds rolled back. I saw a video of a bassist talking about that very thing and he said even if you like the sound of your bass with no mids while practicing by yourself have at it but in a full band mix add some mids or else you are going to get lost in the mix, i was like "🤯" because that's exactly what was happening to me.

Resonance is for the frequencies below the Bass (or "low end"). So you're actually boosting the low end.. which makes this video not make much sense. *For Slayer tones, you just need an EMG KK set, an MXR 10 band EQ (as an OD/Mid boost), and a "British" style amp with the mids boosted even more. (It also helps to use a Kahler bridge, and just play random notes really fast.)
@BearAmps
@BearAmps 5 месяцев назад
The power amp takes a signal from the output and runs it back into phase inverter at the input of the power amp to limit power amp distortion. This is called negative feedback and gives more headroom before distortion in that section. A presence control removes some of that negative feedback but only in the highs, which gives a distorted high frequency back to you. Same with resonance and depth controls, it gives you back some low frequencies but they're distorted. Distortion on these frequencies masks the fundamental low frequency enough to move air but not enough to stomp on the fundamental low frequencies of a bass guitar. Its more of a bodiless low end if I were to try to describe it without getting all sciencey about it. That's why it works. Similar idea behind the Maxx Bass plug in from Waves that can add perceived bass without blowing out your low end.
