Excited for the next set, and the spoilers look good, but I still want to focus on this set and get as much out of it as possible before moving on to SotG. Thanks for the info!
I’m hyped for the starter decks. Especially the dark troopers and mando deck. I’m more hyped for the next set because it sounds like it’s set in the republic era with Anakin Ahsoka and clones. But this set I will be getting at least 2 boxes.
Calculated Lethality could, in theory, be used to defeat your own upgraded unit that is about to die, to splash some XP around the other units. Just a thought on how it could be used.
calculated lethality allows you to move experience counters from one of your units to another, tarking could buff a drop 1, and once he is out kill it and get himself 3+/+3 or more. That flexibility is worth something
I think Calculated Lethality is best as a value piece in a list like Tarkin. Its main use it to move experience tokens from one of your troopers to another. Swing in with something you've made huge off of Tarkin, kill it with Lethality and then swing in for another massive amount of damage with another unit. It just happens to also work as removal in niche situations.
Its interesting in Tarkin for sure. Being able to move experience over to your own leader is very powerful in general, as leaders are harder to deal with anyway. Its also very good against Wing Leader in general, and with all the upgrades and stuff this set is touting, might just be a staple when all is said and done.
you could also use Calculated Lethality to move your own experience upgrades to a healthy unit, this would give a Tarkin voltron unit a way to effectively swing twice in a round, or could be a novel answer to a Traitorous play by your opponent
Yellow Red (Because of Force Throw) Mando Deck with lots of small Units like R2D2, C3PO and Grogu + Upgrades for your own and Bountys might not be Meta, but Fun.
Also that Maul in the picture is the clone wars Maul before he gets the Dark Saber. During that time he only had the one half of his saber. He acquired the double blade again in the siege of Mandalore season of the show.
Big brain, you could use Calc leath on your own guy that is low on HP to get value out of the unit shifting exp over. Not saying it's good but could be a strategy
Just take my money on Mando Legendary Hyperspace 😫 I just love that the starters have good playable cards only found there makes it worth to buy it and not just pass by it like other games starter sets
The way Bounty is worded it doesn't look like you would want to target your own units, as it states "It's opponent collects its bounty." If you bountied your own unit your opponent would get the benefit when it is defeated or captured.
Calculated Lethality is really good against decks that stack shields and/or experience tokens on low drops. I have so much trouble dealing with Jedi decks because of the crap they drop on their 3 or less drops. Meta card / sideboard card
Can't wait to try out Grogu with yellow Chewie. Having stuff like Falcon and Grogu can do a really good job of protecting your base until Chewie comes out
If you attach the rifle to mando, the rifle leaving play doesn't matter. The captured unit will stay captured. You could play two of them to keep snagging units.
So, question. If Boba Fett Legendary from set 1 attacks an exhausted unit and deals 3 to it killing it, but it has overwhelm from Moff Gideon. Does the overwhelm continue through to base? This will be very important to know lol
@LiterallyUnplayable the wording of Overwhelm is "When this unit deals damage to an enemy unit while attacking, deal excess damage to that opponent’s base. Example: If a 5-power unit with Overwhelm attacks a unit with 3 HP remaining, it deals 2 damage to the enemy base." So I would imagine it does because the unit still deals damage, just by effect. I hope it does, at least.
I was under the assumption that leaders never actually leave play. Does that mean the thing just sticks under the leader card forever or do leaders being defeated count as leaving play?
The initial side (non unit side) of a leader card just has the keyword "Leader"; the opposite side uses the keyword "Leader Unit". Everything comes off when it ceases being a "unit".
the Phase 3 Dark, Trooper is going to be in so many decks. That card feels borderline busted already. haha. Easily S-tier card that will sell set 2 starter sets all on it's own.
The stuff in this set is bound to be better from a hype perspective than set 1 imo. So many sweet characters coming in this one; and it has the added benefit to build on the current game which will give it some points for being a "better" set idk. Picking nits, I think using Gedion in the 2p starter makes sense b/c what happened on the show, but homie was written off in S3 and did what, they wasted the character b/c whatever direction they are going now with the movie. If we are getting Maul, and b/c it's the 25th anniversay of Ep. 1, it should have been Maul v Qui-Gon. And another thing, the playmat with Mando holding the darksaber, what a joke. Dude couldn't wield that thing worth a squat, and again S3 bs broke the damn thing. Why the heck wasn't Mando holding Grogu, even the stock image from the show walking into the sun, the pram floating next to them you know, that would be way better imo. Yeah I'll still buy it all b/c Star Wars despite shortcomings and strange decisions, I love the world and need all the cards. Let's go!
Regarding your reservations on Calculated Lethality - don't forget, Shield and Experience tokens count as upgrades, so that card brutalizes current Tarkin and Luke builds, and is a mean response to Tie Advanced and Wing Leader plays, and any unit with built-in Shields. If nothing else, I'll side-deck the heck out of it.
Vader on 7 for Dark Trooper, then Gideon's Cruiser on 8 to bring it back after it dies? Your playing green anyway with Gideon leader. It seems very strong.
@LiterallyUnplayable I'm doing the same binder thing because I liked your idea so much but now I don't know what I'm gonna do about that. Maybe return the binder and get one that fits 1088 cards. Unfortunately, all those ones have logos on them though...
