In this video tutorial, you'll learn how to create a modern and colorful calendar view in SharePoint.
The new feature, Microsoft Lists: Conditional formatting on the calendar view, helps customize the calendar to meet specific requirements.
Items in a list calendar view can be color-coded based on conditions or rules specified on the fields available in the view.
I'll show you also the Calendar view item drag, and drop which helps reorganize Lists items in a calendar view.

After looking for a while I was seeing that it's not possible to change the color based on other columns, your video has proved that wrong. Great work and thank you for the helpful content.

To make sure I had the Json right, i created another view where I selected the column I wanted as a source for the colour. I then added the colors and copied the JSON. I then pasted it in the right view, where the column was not offered as a selection and it worked fine.

trying to set a colour on a modern calendar doesn't seem to work for me. Works fine for list views but when i try any kind of conditional formatting on a modern calendar it doesn't work.

Great Video like always. I Notec that when I change the color via Advanced mode the change only affect on the list page and not in Component list that added to specific page. Is someone have the same problem?

At the beginning of the video1:40 when you choose "list" after it is important to describe how select the view Calendar. Select All Item and Create new view and Calendar. It seems not important but by default we are not on the view Calendar. In all the cases Thank you for the Great Video.

Hi Giuliano, thank you sooooo much! Your video helped me solve a problem that I was about to give up on... However, I've noticed that after doing the formatting, the CalendarView at first does not show the colors. I have to change the Calendar View to All Items and then back to Calendar View to see the colors... Do you maybe know why does that happen? Thank you!!

Hi Diego, Thanks for watching 😉 🙏, Have you tried just to refresh the page after having applied the formatting. It could be a rendering issue.

Fantastic content. Thanks for showing how to manipulate the JSON as well! Is there any way to show a list of your conditions on it somewhere? Like having a key for what the colors represent? On classic SharePoint calendars it would display the overlays used to the left of the calendar so you know which color was for which category.

@@DeLucaGiulian but that doesn't tell HOW to add that to the calendar view - so visitors can see, what the colours represent (and not their color codes) ? :)
@lauramiddleton-padgham1924

@@tanjabaron2131 I have also colour-coded the same column in the All Items view, which acts as a kind of key. If a user isn't sure, they can switch back and forth. It's an OK solution for now.

Thanks for watching 😉 What we can do to cover your scenario is to add extra columns in the list like recurrence for example and add a Power Automate Flow that runs every day and send notifications to the user

Hey Giuliano I was curious are we able to customize the colorized blocks based on other columns. For example if a column called All Day Event is checked would I be able to have the event have an icon on it? Or say Title + All Day? Or is it only colors for now?
@DeLucaGiulian
@DeLucaGiulian Год назад
Hi Clifton, theoretically if you click on format current view you can work with list view and column formatting which allows you to create your rules
@OMGDrAcula
@OMGDrAcula Год назад
@@DeLucaGiulian Yep I understand that. But even looking at advanced mode it just shows operators to change color. I am more looking to change what is displayed on the event block on the calendar. So instead of just whatever field is set to display appending text if an event is all day or all afternoon.
@DeLucaGiulian
@DeLucaGiulian Год назад
@@OMGDrAcula I think the calendar view is pretty limited right now in terms of customizations and I'm not sure if you can achieve your goal, personally I never tried this level of customizations on the calendar view

How about conditional colour formatting based on a Choice field, rather than something like the Title field (this is free form, not the best use case for something "conditional"). Thanks
@DeLucaGiulian
@DeLucaGiulian Год назад
Hi, This is definitely feasible and a nice idea to color the calendar, all you need to do is target the value of your choice field instead the title

The default "Events" calendar that every SharePoint site comes with by default allows connecting to Outlook.. can this list do the same?
@DeLucaGiulian
@DeLucaGiulian Год назад
This functionality is not included with this kind of list, but you can create a Power Automate Flow that trigger every time a new item is added or modified in the list and update your Outlook calendar accordingly. I know this feature is very useful in the old and standard Events list.
@mandovid
@mandovid Год назад
@@DeLucaGiulian that's too bad, I made a new view with a "modern look" in the Events calendar, but for some reason the color formatting is not working. It allows putting the rules but at the end the colors stay the same.
