I've switched over to a $10 IPTV service a couple of years ago, I have thousands of channels including all premium, sports and PPV content, Cable companies have been gouging consumers since the 80s

Which is that one. I'm interested.

I hate cable companies, but there's no way that the channels were getting paid for content at $10/mo. This "service" was obviously pirating content such that paid subscribers were subsidizing the pirates, just as paid streaming subscribers are subsidizing all of the leeches that use their password. It's important to note that Internet-based services like RU-vid TV have simply become the "new" cable companies. Channels are constantly demanding more money from the delivery services, so it's not always your cable company's fault that prices continually increase. The channels themselves are just as guilty as any cable company, but consumers always blame the cable company and that's how the channels get away with it. Spectrum (Time-Warner) is right now installing fiber in my area that should soon come by my home and will be the first broadband that I've ever had access to. However, there's no chance that I'll become a Time-Warner subscriber as I hate their guts, so this does me no good (I refuse to cal them Spectrum as they changed their name hoping people would forget how much we hated them, which seems to have worked surprisingly well). Spectrum is receiving taxpayer subsidies under the rural broadband program to install fiber on these roads and I feel that taxpayers should ultimately *own* that cable as part of a co-op in a similar manner to the way the electric utilities work in my state. Internet access is not a value-added service; it's a utility and should be owned and regulated as such. Taxpayer dollars should never be used to install commercial monopolies, even if those monopolies are regulated as telecoms. Those companies should instead be allowed to sell services over *our* cables. We don't let private companies build and own our roads, but for some reason Americans are totally fine with private companies owning and controlling communication highways. I don't understand it.
@antibrevity
@antibrevity Год назад
@Robert Brown This is why net neutrality is so important. However, you can get around your ISP blocks with a VPN service. No, it's not right that you need to pay a subscription just to get around your ISP, but it absolutely works and your ISP can no longer block services or domains, for better or worse.

IPTV Services don't give you the Local Channels you are looking for. Also, if you give your credit card to people you believe to be "a little shady" then you are just way braver than me. I have been using Philo and have been very happy with it. It is basically all the Cable TV channels without sports and it is only $25/mo. Take a look
@Chordonblue
@Chordonblue Год назад
Yep. I've been using Philo and Prime (since I have it), and OTA with an RCA small antenna connected to my Tablo DVR in the garage. Much thanks goes to AntennaMan for his recommendations! All of this streams to our TV through Roku. I will not give Sinclair Broadcasting or Nexstar any more money. What they are charging cable/sat/Internet TV providers is no longer 'reasonable', and should be corrected. I started down this journey because right after I signed on with HuluTV, Nexstar pulled all their ABC channels - including the local one my wife wanted. When they did finally bring it back, the price went up $15. After some investigation, I find that this is a common occurrence for these local TV stations because they are no longer locally owned. Every six months or so they pull their channels and have their hands out. No thanks, I'm out. This won't stop until people drop out in greater numbers. If Congress won't make it right, *I* will. I was willing to spend money for the antenna and Tablo because compared to a cable bill, it pays for itself in less than the first year.
@PeterC408
@PeterC408 Год назад
You are right not to wait for Congress to fix this. There is only one good reason to get into politics, because you love your country enough to want to make it better. Unfortunately, it is very easy to lose that vision. Fox and CNN both make more money during campaign ad season than another time during the year! Sad but true. All campaign ads should have to be run for free. Oh, and there are waaayyy too many ads to be reasonable... sometimes I forget what I am watching!

NBC is probably the hardest because it is a different type of signal. My guess is that it is not a UHF broadcast but a VHF broadcast. For that you need a VHF capable antenna. Yeah how does the Antop and tablo setup compare to the wineguard 75 mi antenna? I got the setup with wineguard antenna ,tv anywhere and 2 months of sling for $150 an tax. Is there any better features over the Anton then a wineguard f k r the price point? My current setup is in Nashville area at a friend's house and I just boot in on the sling app for free here in Knoxville. But if her power or internet goes down I'm looking at fuzz. So I might try to fight the headaches of getting my local channels if it's worth the hassle.
@PeterC408
@PeterC408 Год назад
I am not familiar with the Winguard antenna. I have tried many antennas over the years and Antop is among the very best. That said, the quality of antenna needed is dictated by distance. If I lived in San Francisco, where the antenna signal lives, you can literally stick a paperclip in the back of your TV and you are good to go. The further you get, the more deliberate your intent must be.

I hope Antennaman does a review on these new antenna's, he lives closer to my area, so more relevant to me. I got an older antop from 2 years ago, and it's not the best so maybe time I look into new models. I live in apt for outdoor ones I can't use.
@PeterC408
@PeterC408 Год назад
I am sure that he will. The best way to get a signal that lives outdoors is to go outdoors with it. Maybe you can talk to the landlord and see if he/she is willing to put one up for others to share too. That way you get it outside and facing the right direction. Getting a splitter and amplifying it is much better than just putting it near a window.

He may remind all that marketing hype terms used by many antenna vendors, like "support 4k 1080p," are to be taken with a grain of salt. Antennas do not enhance input video quality; they simply deliver whatever is being broadcast. If one has a TV with NextGen TV technology, or peripherals like a SiliconDust HDHomeRun Flex 4K ATSC 3.0 NextGen TV tuner, then the 4k feature ability is from that technology, not the antenna. Antenna vendors are known for excess marketing hype.

In the streaming world (cord-cutters) we all used to use TV tuners but then Locast came out and we could get local channels without the setup cost. It was $5/mo!!! But they got sued and that went away. We then started getting local channels with streaming services but now that they are all upping their prices - I am going back to Live Local OTA TV. That is what I meant. In 2009, the FCC changed broadcast television from analog to digital. Old antennas still work but it is not the same thing. Sure, you can play music by slapping two spoons against your knee, but it isn't really music. Not sure that worked out but I am going to leave it. That said, Commercials are just going mental. I can't believe this garbage. I actually forget what program I was watching when they come back. Something has to be done. I like recording it and skipping them. Thanks for the note.

You mean the islands? I am on the Pacific just not in the Pacific. If you are in the islands, you shouldn't be watching TV anyway. 😜
