Several months later after doing this simple thing, this car runs amazing still. I highly recommend you reset your car's computer. It is definitely a good thing. And not a myth. And it's not just in my head. This car runs fantastic after doing this.
I do this to any car I own. I recently had to do it to make sure I resolved a Check Engine Light. After I replaced the suspect part, I had to reset the computer to reset the CEL. This method is very handy for many things - especially if you don't have a scanner or Diablosport Tuner (that can also reset CEL's.)
I also did this on my 2008 Ford Taurus X (now using the ForScan software.) It runs amazingly (even at 160,000 miles.) I also had the transmission rebuilt, reset all modules, car runs and shifts better than new. A very quick car, that Taurus. I am very impressed with it. See my other videos for fixes I have done on the 2008 Taurus.
I did this on my 2016 honda accord and it felt better as soon as I started it. I had a rough idle and jerky shifting even tho my trans fluid only has about 10k. There is another intermittent issue but only time will tell on that one but it has been flawless so far
I’m glad I found this vid bc I did a lot of work including aftermarket maf to mine without resetting and it’s been running kinda bad I’m hopeful of this tho
I just replaced plugs, coil packs, and throttle body on a 2007 Cadillac DTS. The car has 204,000 mi on it but was well maintained. After doing the work and starting the car, the idle was way high. It would drop back down after 15 to 20 seconds, but jump back up over 2000 and stay there if I just tapped the gas, remaining there for 15 or 20 seconds again. I'm no mechanic, but after watching a few things it sounds like the blade was staying open because of what the PCM had learned from the old throttle body, compensating for carbon buildup. I'm going to try this as soon as the sun comes up. I did take it out on the highway and jumped on it hard three or four times. And then watch this video this morning and thought "whoops". If you've never ridden in one, the 2006 - 2011 Cadillac DTS are absolute animals for such a small displacement in a large car.
Many GM cars have a different procedure for resetting and relearning. It is totally different from Ford as far as the relearn process. My Hummer H3 was different from the Ford. Reset it again and find the correct relearn procedure for your car.
For this car (and most) first - make sure you do the relearn with a completely cold engine. The rest of the process is totally different vs this Ford. So make sure you find the correct procedure for your model. (It's not as simple as just cranking the car....)
I now do this to every vehicle I own. Just follow the correct procedure for the reprogramming stage - because some cars are different from others regarding this. It has improved EVERY older car I own! NO JOKE
i recently did a engine and trans swap to a 06 gt,the engine and trans were wroking good on the old vehicle no codes before taking it out once i did the swap i conneted it to the harness and pcm of the 06. It idles rough at first and keep getting an oxygen sensor code even though I already replaced it. I also keep getting the O/D light flashing, but i know its not the trans cause it was working good no coodes when it was pulled out. Will this reset help?
It is the OEM battery blanket that prevents the heat from the engine from getting to the battery. My previous one was in horrible shape, so I replaced it with a new one. It is definitely a factory item though.
@@HorsepowerHouse Ok, I thought it was something you mida purchased to insulate your battery from the cold weather, that is something I can use. thank you for the video
@@CinematicTouchProductions well, I am not sure of the exact function of the item, it might be for both reasons. All I know is the one that was on it was in horrible shape, so I replaced it with a new one. It might be to insulate it from cold, or to keep the engines heat off of it, I am not totally sure, actually.
My 2006 manual 4.0 mustang has lately not been wanting to crank at all. Minutes later it starts all normal. I have recently replaced the clutch, starter, battery, and fuel filter. Could this help?
I have an 05 Gt , Installed all 8 spark plugs ran find for 3 months . Then an got a misfire code for bad ignition coil. Swapped out all 8 brand new went with accel yellow coils . Then about a month into the installing the coils. It’s driving like it has a misfire but there’s no code. Sounds like resetting the PCM could fix this issue that won’t go away
If you still haven't solved this, it might be worth getting the battery tested. Regardless of its age or you think it's fully charged. I had a car one time, with a brand new very expensive battery, and it turned out that the battery was defective. When you have strange problems, sometimes the battery is the root cause.
So I have had rough idle after replacing my battery a couple weeks ago I’m going to try this and see if that resolves it. I don’t think it re-learned properly the first time because numerous things were on that would drop power and I was in a rush to get to work when I start it up the following morning after replacing the battery. I have a question though, if I’m not able to do much of a test drive initially and I have to park my car and then go to work the next day will it still continue learning or will it interrupt the process?
hey i know this is late but did you figure out what the problem was? i recently changed my battery and ever since i been having rough idle, and lack of power/no acceleration
I replaced the tps and cleaned the throttle body. Reset the computer. Now I have nothing? No throttle at all. Its like it hasn't/won't recalibrate? Any ideas? TIA. 2006 mustang. AT 4.0 liter coupe
And after you reset everything, when you start again, turn the key to the Run position, but do not start the car, let it sit for 10 to 15 seconds, then crank the car, and just let it idle for several minutes before trying to drive it. Otherwise triple check your work is all I can advise.
Sorry but I am not familiar with that model. But I'm sure it would not hurt. You won't damage anything, regardless. Maybe there are other Ford RU-vid channels that can give information on your model. I do this procedure after every tune-up or replacement of any sensor, as well as if I do any upgrade or mod to any component relating to intake, fuel, exhaust. So the car can "re-learn" how to moderate everything relating to those systems. I firmly believe it helps the car perform better.
I now use the ForScan software on my laptop to reset modules and do many other things. Read Check engine light codes, make ignition key, and many more useful things. Highly recommend. www.forscan.org
@@joncat5beamngdrive upon restart, just let the car idle for several minutes, then go drive it carefully and easily for a while. Do not be aggressive or race the engine for at least the first 50 to 100mi
Ford Escape 2009 anti theft light keeps flashing as soon as the car is turned off. Low tire pressure light blinks even though tires are over inflated. Will this clear these issues?
Theft light is supposed to flash like that. It means its "working". As long as the car starts and runs properly. But you need to pair your tire pressure sensors to your car to fix the TPMS issue. You can buy to little remote tool on eBay. Search eBay/Amazon for "Ford TPMS Reset Tool". Very easy to use. I have that video on my channel as well.
The flashing is constant, after the car is turned off, ..so would that be a 24 hr battery drain? From my perspective it is new..I never noticed it since 2009.
@@dmstrong1208 a tiny Flashing LED light would hardly drain a battery. As long as the car cranks and runs fine, it is normal for that light to flash. Does it flash all day and all night when the car is not running?
@@dmstrong1208 if there was a problem with your anti-theft system, the car would not start. Or the light would flash fast when you try to turn the ignition key over. Sure you could try to reset your computer. It's not going to hurt anything.
So my GT is tuned to 93 octane . If I reset my computer i know it’ll erase that tune . Can I still run my stock tuned engine on 93 or should I go back to 87. I’m ford recomends to run them on 93
I would remove the tune first. Reset everything, then re-tune it. (Unless the tune is part of your "problem..." And make sure you restart/relearn everything with a stone-cold engine. Follow instructions on many channels. But COLD engine.
@@HorsepowerHouse see it was tuned before I got the car an I don’t have the tuner to reset it . So will doing this erase the tune all together? An also would it still be safe to run 93 without a tune for it
@@5.0shadesofslvr pointless to run a car on 93 octane on stock tuning (unless it requires 93 stock.). Doesn't improve performance or mpg. Waste of money. Buy either an SCT, Bama, or Diablosport Trinity (I own) Tuner. They are extremely handy- and not just for performance tuning. Good for reading trouble codes and resetting them. Get a used one on eBay. One of the best "tools" you will ever have.
